Have friends coming for the bank holiday and weather looking fab so hoping to have a BBQ but need some inspiration for vegi guests (separate grill and coals from the meat eaters!) I'm good on salads, but what can I slap on the coals that will be tasty and shows a bit of effort?

Halloumi and peppers on a skewer

HolidayHelpPlease · 17/05/2018 18:32

Hallomi and portobello mushroom burgers? We had these at a veggie bbq a few weeks ago, the hallomi was basted in sweet chilli sauce - delicious!

Carolynnnna · 17/05/2018 18:32

Beefsteak mushrooms!

Chelseajunior · 17/05/2018 18:33

Falafel salad kebabs with salad Smile

Ylvamoon · 17/05/2018 18:35

Pre cook veggie burger and warm them up on the BBQ for the lovely flavour. (You can make them the day before...)

SurelyNotJustStirItUna · 17/05/2018 18:35

Corn on the cob

AdaColeman · 17/05/2018 18:35

Whole sweetcorn

Thick slices of aubergine marinaded in herbs and olive oil

lanbury · 17/05/2018 18:35

I'm really thick so apologies Blush - is Hallomi a cheese? Won't it melt?

I think I meant Portobello mushrooms. Those humungous ones, anyway.

Halloumi. Just Halloumi. It doesn't melt as it's quite firm - we call it 'squeaky cheese'.

Calic0 · 17/05/2018 18:36

Stuffed peppers or tomatoes might work nicely.

But definitely mushrooms - I’m slightly obsessed with mushrooms and miso butter atm (plenty of recipes online).

lanbury · 17/05/2018 18:36

These all sound delicious, I'm really hungry now Grin I'd definitely thought sweet corn, and I'm loving the basting ideas to tart it up!

Large flat mushrooms
vegetable kebabs (red/yellow peppers, onion, mushroom etc)
corn on the cob
dessert - banana with chocolate buttons in the middle so they melt ( wrap in foil)

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 17/05/2018 18:39

Asparagus, aubergine, large mushrooms and peppers are all great when marinaded and then grilled and served with herbs, feta and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the top.

Yes yes yes to halloumi. Tofu is also good, again you have to marinate and make sure you use the extra firm stuff as otherwise it'll fall to pieces!

Veggie sausages always a good standby (the Cauldron ones are best on the bbq)

Scribblegirl · 17/05/2018 18:39

Make sure to brush the halloumi with oil first as it always tends to stick on our BBQ if we forget. Man that stuff is good though Grin

lanbury · 17/05/2018 18:41

I'm so excited to try Hallomi now! How has this passed me by?! Defo going to give that a go Grin

Sainsbury’s shroomdogs

They are v v good (I’m not a vegetarian and happily have them for dinner)

lanbury · 17/05/2018 18:42

Oh yes the bananas sound awesome for pud!

AsAProfessionalFekko · 17/05/2018 18:43

I use my george foreman and griddle slices of it - then have to wrestle DS for it! Devine cheesiness.

mavismcruet · 17/05/2018 18:44

Iceland No Bull burgers.

lanbury · 17/05/2018 18:45

Thanks peony just looked up shroomdogs, they look like a must have!!

I’m a veggie and I have quorn beef burgers, halloumi cheese, vegetable skewers and new potatoes x

rjay123 · 17/05/2018 18:46

Halloumi is amazing. Best warm, though have found you can microwave it after youve cooked it, and it’s still damn good.

I want halloumi now.

fruitbrewhaha · 17/05/2018 18:46

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, this is making me so hungry.
Can I come too?

As an aside, I'm veggie and I don't care if it's cooked on the same BBQ. It's very thoughtful of you to get a separate one, but perhaps before you fire them both up, you could ask.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 18:47

The Iceland No Bull burgers are gorgeous! Suitable for vegans too.
