Have friends coming for the bank holiday and weather looking fab so hoping to have a BBQ but need some inspiration for vegi guests (separate grill and coals from the meat eaters!) I'm good on salads, but what can I slap on the coals that will be tasty and shows a bit of effort?

Don't slap me: watermelon... honestly, it's great sliced and BBQ'd...

Bread & salad lol

We went to a bbq on the weekend and had a barbecued asparagus, it was divine! I believe it was basted with balsamic vinegar and seasoned well. It really was good!

And for the veggies who don't like cheese: buttery corn on the cob, baked potato, cous cous stuffed peppers, potato salad

Carolynnnna · 17/05/2018 21:06

dessert - banana with chocolate buttons in the middle so they melt ( wrap in foil)

This was a big 'thing' when I was a kid, and it almost put me off bananas for life.

I do asparagus/ green beans/ sweetcorn in foil parcels drizzle with oil and wrap up, two layers on the bottom and they remain moist and dont fall through the holes. red peppers drizzled with oil cook slowly and peel the skin off. All served with Halloumi. Also a lot of supermarkets do mixed oriental mushrooms . I put in a foil parcel after being covered with olive oil and garlic, absolutely delicious served with bread

Most supermarkets do a mediterranean veg mix pour oil and garlic over and either wrap in a parcel of foil or cover the foil tray.

Love halloumi kebabs, marinate the cheese and veg first with oil, garlic, lime juice and herbs especially mint.

Our other favourite is to grate mature cheddar, add finely chopped red or spring onion, lots of grain mustard and mix all together. Stuff field mushrooms with the mix and barbecue. Yum.

Yes, yes, yes to halloumi, portobello mushrooms, potatoes, corn on the cob and vegetable skewers. But please stay away from quorn and tofu - nasty, hyper-processed, unnatural stuff. Many vegetarians won't touch it because there is nothing natural or healthy about it.

mavism We really did not like the Iceland No bull burgers. Tasted uncooked and not firm enough. We cooked them in the oven so welcome any tips to improve them.

We have this kind of pan for a veggie side dish
www.amazon.co.uk/Neat-Ideas-Ultimate-Cook-much/dp/B01LD94DHW/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=BBQ+pan&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1526590152&sr=8-5

I pan fry peppers, courgettes, onions and halloumi on the normal hob and then on the BBQ in this pan. Nothing wasted and a lovely taste.

Def count all meat eaters into your budget when buying veggie option, so lovely and good for everybody to get away from the usuals.

Halloumi, stuffed mushrooms, Quorn sausages, definitely shroom burgers!
