Anyone live in East London? Wedding related

Posting here for traffic .....

If you are from East London and got married recently where did you have your reception party?

Seriously struggling to find a venue! Ideally want a nice restaurant/family friendly pub type place that isn’t too crazy espensive and has a nice atmosphere - outside space will be a bonus! Only having around 30 family and friends for dinner and then maybe another 20 or so for drinks later.

Any suggestions?!

East London is quite big! Can you narrow it down to a particular borough?

Heartbreaker83 · 17/05/2018 15:17

Very flexible really Islington, Leyton, Walthamstow, Hackney, Shoreditch,

this pub is very popular for weddings in Hackney

The Castle in Walthamstow?

Or upstairs at Mirth, Marvel and Maud (a lovely old cinema, now restaurant/bar)

LemonLimerance · 17/05/2018 15:21

I went to a wedding reception at Proud East on the canal in Haggerston - casual but could work? Was sort of an indoor/outdoor space so would only work if you are sure of good weather but there is space inside too.

AromaticSpices · 17/05/2018 15:26

People's Park Tavern, right next to Victoria Park. Went to a lovely wedding there, big outdoor space which overlooks the park itself. Really nice food, good atmosphere, could easily accommodate the number of your party.

The Dispensary in Aldgate is good, have done a few events there. Or the Water Poet maybe? You can hire out the back room/garden I think.

Proud East is a nice space as a pp mentioned.

Belleende · 17/05/2018 15:28

Pub in the park. London Fields for outside space, place to hire downstairs. 2 min walk from hackney town hall

I went to a lovely London wedding reception here in Hackney: number90bar.co.uk/

I got married at Islington Town Hall. We nearly booked The Drapers Arms for the reception but, alas, my family was too numerous to fit. Haven't been there for years but back then the staff were great and well equipped for a wedding of your size.

Also check out the nearby Albion pub. Both are gorgeous.

ISpeakJive · 17/05/2018 16:52

This may be a little big for your intimate wedding but:

Don't go to Proud East! It's a lovely venue but the service is catastrophic. If you fancy middle eastern food, by the canal you could try Berber & Q in Haggerston

Heartbreaker83 · 17/05/2018 20:30

Have spent the afternoon sending out numerous e-mails to get some quotes. I naively thought it would be so easy to just find a restaurant Sad

Izzywigs · 17/05/2018 20:35

Have you tried the Manor House at Wanstead?

Heartbreaker83 · 17/05/2018 20:37

elliephillips thank you, the Albion looks gorgeous, no idea how I can rack up £13k bill for 30 guests. Confused such a shame

Andis in Stoke Newington. I’ve known her years (not outing. Literally gazillions of people have known her years. I count myself so fortunate to be amongst them). She’s a warm woman, fabulous chef, and she bloody loves PEOPLE. Her place is fantastic. Tell her that the bird who threw up gin fizz all over her old bathroom sent you...

Heartbreaker83 · 17/05/2018 20:42

izzywigs looks good, very large but it’s unclear if they do weddings

OR at the other end of the spectrum my other friends run a waste food restaurant “Save the Date” and cater lovely, yummy, ethical, down to earth, fun food and would help you find a venue I’m certain.

Tell them the girl who kayaked the canal drunk with them sent you...

BeansMrSeanandHeinz · 17/05/2018 20:44

Manor House at Wanstead is a nice space but when we used to drink in there they always seem surprised at anyone ordering a food, three years and two kids ago now so may have changed.

The duke at Wanstead?

Gilwell Park in chingford?

For proper east London Wilton’s Music Hall or the prospect of Whitby

Congrats btw
