Posting here for traffic .....

If you are from East London and got married recently where did you have your reception party?

Seriously struggling to find a venue! Ideally want a nice restaurant/family friendly pub type place that isn’t too crazy espensive and has a nice atmosphere - outside space will be a bonus! Only having around 30 family and friends for dinner and then maybe another 20 or so for drinks later.

Any suggestions?!

I second the PP who said Dead Dolls House on Upper Street, Islington - I often walk past it and there are frequently weddings on. I have been in for drinks and it’s v friendly.

I second Andi’s or the Drapers Arms. Nick from the Drapers is somewhat of a pub legend. Google the website. He donates all the takings from the pub on Valentine’s Day to Refuge. Every single penny. Food is fab. Service comfortable, friendly but not intrusive. We love the DA here!

Emily7708 · 17/05/2018 23:38

Someone already mentioned it but Gilwell Park is lovely, there’s some stunning outside space for photos too.

To whoever thought they’d like to go drinking with me....

That was all before I birthed a human being. Since then it’s one Guinness and home for Question Time.

But back in the day I was E5’s answer to a young Patsy Stone Grin

Wilton’s is glorious but a. It’s quite pricey and b. There’s usually about a 2 year waiting list......

We looked at quite a few on this thread and what swung the Dickens Inn for us was it’s licensed for you to actually get married there.

ElliePhillips · 18/05/2018 06:38

You are welcome OP.

Yes it is shame about the price of the Albion heartbreaker We much preferred The Draper's Arms in the end. Their minimum spend was low, food yummy and they have a private room upstairs (and a small court yard).

I used to be a wedding planner. And I'm East London born 'n' bred. May I ask where you are getting married? It may help me suggest more suitable venues. I also know a lot about private dinning rooms in London if you are interested in that type of reception. 30 is a good number for that.

@EllierPhilips, sorry to hijack this thread but we are looking for an East London Venue for next March. It’s a Golden Wedding, so if you know anywhere, I would Be grateful. We are in ilford. Either sit down or buffet for 30 people

MojoMoon · 18/05/2018 09:09

Hackney city farm. Venue is "shabby chic" but food is good and can negotiate some outside space. The restaurant there is called Frizzante.

The Crown at clerkenwell green - upstairs private hire of room or can hire the whole pub on Saturdays

We had our reception in the Mile End Park Ecology Pavillion. Really beautiful space, and gorgeous outdoor space. It was some years back and the hourly rental was really reasonable then, may have changed now. You do need to get everything in yourself but we found a local caterer who wasn't trying to rob us blind due to it being a wedding and they sorted tables, chairs, food etc.

ElliePhillips · 18/05/2018 12:17

Izzywigs I went to school in Ilford!

I usually plan my events further into the city centre but in our area (actually I live abroad now but home is home Wink) I would try looking for a smart restaurant in Westfield Stratford. Some have big private dinning rooms/areas. I know Basaeathai has a private room.

Wanstead also have lots of nice restaurants and pubs. If you are willing to go further out, perhaps somewhere on the Queen's Road in Buckhurst Hill?

Also have you tried Packfords in Woodford? It's a lovely family run hotel and wedding venue. They would make a great venue for what you have in mind. I recommend them highly!

Just ask if you need anymore ideas Smile

Heartbreaker83 · 18/05/2018 20:49

Wow came back to lots of great responses, thank you all so so much, I’m so grateful, I Will make a massive list and go through them all and take it from there. Lots of recs for drapers arms, I’ve been in touch hopefully I’ll hear from them soon

ellie we are getting married in Hackney so a lot of these places could work if we love them (and they are reasonably priced of course!)

whatisanarwal you sound like my kind of lady! I have many drunken stories from pre-kids but can rarely keep my eyes open past 9pm these days 🙄

Number 90 in Hackney Wick, Vestry House Walthamstow. Nice outdoor spaces.

Unfinishedkitchen · 18/05/2018 21:00

I’m actually following this thread for good drinking spots. Feel like going out now!

Heartbreaker83 · 18/05/2018 22:32

fuei I love the ecology pavilion! So pretty

The William Morris House in Lloyd Oark Walthamstow is good for small weddings, not sure how much ££ though

austenozzy · 18/05/2018 22:45

We had our ceremony at Bow register office, then laid on cabs to get everyone over to the Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich. Grub was great, the little venue to the side was perfect as it had a small sort of club downstairs for dancing, and we had casino tables and the bar (obviously!) upstairs. Great night.

They have a larger, more grand, venue upstairs above the main pub too.

SaltedCaramels · 18/05/2018 23:03

We also had our reception at the ecology pavilion - but it's too large for 30 people I think - wouldn't be worth getting in the caterers etc. the Empress in Victoria Park village or Royal Inn on the Park are good options.
