London hospital is 'like a war zone'.

Anyone else fuming about what Donald Trump said in his speech in Texas yesterday? He was criticising Britain's strict gun laws and was basically saying that because of these laws,there had been an surge in the number of stabbings. He said there that a London hospital ward 'looked like a war zone,with blood all over the floor'. Hmm

This was based on comments made by a Trauma surgeon at a London hospital in an interview. A resus bay can look pretty bloody during a major trauma.
Just pretty annoying the way Trump has chosen to use the comments.

Tbf, that's a sentiment I've heard frequently from London A and E doctors. But if guns were more available, no doubt they'd be shooting each other instead, so I don't think the UK equivalent of freedom to bear arms would improve matters.

And we have seen a major rise in stabbings in London. I talked to a trauma surgeon from Detroit at a conference.
He expressed horror about stabbings which he saw a lot less than shootings. His comment was its just so up close and personal...like pointing a gun at someone isn't Confused

London's homicide rate in 2017 was about half that of NYC, and even NYC didn't scrape the top 50 cities for murders in the US in 2017

It annoyed me the way he said it as if guns were more freely available in the UK,knife crime wouldn't be a problem! Has the US not got a knife crime problem too? Or is it completely free of knife crime because everyone is carrying a gun (which can kill far more people than a knife in the same amount of time).

I think he was basing this on quotes from Martin Griffiths who is a trauma surgeon at the Royal London Hospital. Yes, resus can be very messy in the aftermath of a stabbing but I’ve never seen blood running along corridors. Trump was exaggerating. Surprise !

Rate of US homicide in proportion to population is about 5x that of UK, is it not?

Even Sweden has a higher rate of homicide than UK year after year, despite welfare and general law-abidingness. I've always suspected this is to do with higher rural hunting population= more people who have reason to own guns. If so, very clear evidence that guns= more killings.

Crazy logic. Because we can't have guns here, there is loads of knife crime instead. I don't think he has thought through his argument for having guns using the UK as the example. If we allow guns here, there will still be knife crime, but there will be a whole load of gun crime too. I feel sorry for the Americans if they fall for this crap

4856 deaths by shootings in the US so far this year compared to the 60 knife deaths in London. I was unable to find the statistics for the whole of the UK but there is talk about stricter knife crime laws like in Glasgow

The irony of this speech, made in Dallas ( a city with a higher murder rate & lower population than London) is completely lost on these idiots. Sadly this really is a case of you cant argue with stupid
