London hospital is 'like a war zone'.

Anyone else fuming about what Donald Trump said in his speech in Texas yesterday? He was criticising Britain's strict gun laws and was basically saying that because of these laws, there had been an surge in the number of stabbings. He said there that a London hospital ward 'looked like a war zone, with blood all over the floor'. Hmm

He really doesn't have dementia. He may well have some sort of mental illness or condition but what he is saying to this NRA meeting is exactly what they want to hear - nothing demented about it.

Maryz · 05/05/2018 22:47

He's probably right, knife crime mean that hospitals are full of patients bleeding all over the place. The victims of gun crime don't clog up the hospitals for a very simple reason - most of them are dead Hmm

Much better.

UpstartCrow · 05/05/2018 22:48

I'm only surprised he didn't suggest we arm our A&E staff Confused

UrgentScurryfunge · 05/05/2018 22:48

Every household has sharp knives. Based on access to knives, the crime rate per knife in the country is pretty low.

A knife can only harm/ kill one person at a time. It is physically difficult to attack multiple people with lives. Thank goodness that in some of our recent terror attacks, the murderers "only" had access to knives not guns. Relaxed gun control would have substantially increased the toll of victims.

No one is denying that there are pockets of problematic knife crime throughout the UK/ London.

At least all victims have access to the NHS and won't risk bankruptcy by medical bills from inadequate health insurance unlike many American survivors of violent crime.

I know which country I'm happier and safer to be in.

nancy75 · 05/05/2018 22:49

They need to hear this bullshit about other countries so they don’t have to think about how fucked their own country is.
Education - ours is better
Healthcare - ours is better
Social care/maternity rights/workers rights - ours are better

Beyond angry

I dont generally hate people

But i think its fair to say that he is the one person i loathe with a passion

I cant believe that he is the sperm that won

DrEustaciaBenson · 05/05/2018 22:52

The irony of this speech, made in Dallas....

Ah yes, Dallas. The city where a President was assassinated. With a gun.

Anyhope · 05/05/2018 22:52

Just to add I cannot stand Trump & the shootings in USA are atrocious but crime where I live is appalling and seems to be getting worse. On this occasion I do agree with him. Amazingly managed to go out and was very quiet but so much has happened I just pray.

userxx · 05/05/2018 22:52

www.gunviolencearchive.org/

This website is frightening about the gun crime in the US.

Bourdic · 05/05/2018 22:54

As if he’d know what a war zone looked like anyway - remind me, exactly how many times did he dodge the draft?

Creambun2 · 05/05/2018 22:56

Americans who are scared of violent crime when visiting the UK make me laugh - sort out your own shit before criticising other countries, but hey guns are a "right" Hmm

UpstartCrow · 05/05/2018 22:57

We may be stabby but at least we don't bankrupt innocent people with medical bills.

nancy75 · 05/05/2018 22:59

To put our murder rate into context, in 2017 the number of mercer’s in the whole of the uk was roughly equal to the number of murders in Chicago. So our whole country has roughly the same number of murders as ONE American city. Yep Trump should sure be proud of himself

annandale · 05/05/2018 23:01

God Anyhope sorry to hear that.

I certainly think cuts to police services have not made us safer in this country.

Anyhope · 05/05/2018 23:04

There is gun crime, knife crime, asb. Big problem. However he needs to sort own stuff out with shootings.. More think of it more thinking of moving. Actually hospital here not been a war zone but SFrance in past has been oh & knives & gangsters.. France is not too safe either but more of time think am in a film & this cannot be real. Think Switzerland safest place. Anyone any ideas?

DrEustaciaBenson · 05/05/2018 23:07

So our whole country has roughly the same number of murders as ONE American city.

And that's presumably without taking into account the number of accidental shootings that happen when a child gets hold of a parent's gun.

Echobelly · 05/05/2018 23:09

The trouble is, when you consider that most Americans don't have passports, too many will believe anything they're told about the UK, like it's practically under Sharia law or there are terrorist attacks every week, or no-go zones for non-Muslims, or as some guy on Twitter was trying to claim that there's been 'multiple mass shootings in the UK' despite the gun laws. I corrected him by saying I'd looked it up and there have been three in my lifetime of 40 years!

nancy75 · 05/05/2018 23:10

I presume the stats are deaths recorded as murder or manslaughter, I don’t think they include accidental shooting (I admit I’m not certain on that but I looked up murder rate not death rate)

userxx · 05/05/2018 23:26

@nancy75 I think the accident shootings are unintentional ones, there have been 560 of those this year.

The NRA nuts just don’t listen to anything that resembles common sense. A good example often given is the Port Arthur massacre in Australia, after it happened Australia massively tightened up their gun laws, people were queuing to hand over their guns to be destroyed, since then Australia has never had another mass shooting. You can tell them this stuff until you are blue in the face, they just won’t have it

Lilyhatesjaz · 06/05/2018 01:07

I think that victims of stabbing are more likely to end up in hospital. People who have been shot go straight to the morgue

movpov · 06/05/2018 01:42

Just when you think he cannot be any more stupid....while the stabbings in London are indeed terrible, he needs to put his own house in order before criticising other countries however his behaviour so far in relation to gun control shows he has no intention of making it more difficult to get hands on a gun , and this speech confirms that - he's too dependent on the pro gun lobby for campaign funding and support. His response to the Florida shootings is to arm the teachers....i still find it hard to believe we have someone so stupid and therefore dangerous in the oval office

annandale · 06/05/2018 07:19

Anyhope how about somewhere else in the UK? Plenty of low crime areas still.

Dozer · 06/05/2018 07:23

He is loathesome, just playing to his thick voters.
