To have got her kicked off the bus?

Feeling a bit mixed about this. I was travelling on a bus and a woman got on who was clearly very drunk (it was 2pm). She was ranting and swearing and saying the c word a lot. She sat near the front rambling, I was at the back and ignored her.

Within minutes she was pestering everyone for the time. Every time she was told 'it's 2pm' she shouted '2pm? It can't be! Oi you! What's the fucking time!' All the way around the bus. There were elderly passengers clearly uncomfortable and intimidated. One even moved upstairs to get away from her.

Finally she yelled at me for the time. I ignored her and read mumsnet. Then she yelled, 'oi girl! What's the time?!' I rolled my eyes dramatically and said 'it's 2pm, like you've been told a dozen times already, now shut up because no one here wants to listen to your drunken ranting.'

She kicked off but I didn't engage, just looked her in the eye and would smile or raise my eyebrows etc when she demanded to know where I was from, where I was going and she'd get her family to fuck me up. I couldn't hide a smile when she accosted some poor man and said 'shes your mrs isn't she? You need to tell her to watch herself'.

I'm normally a keep your head down and stay out of it kind of person. But she was so disruptive. Eventually the driver kicked her off the bus, then apologised to me (!) and people said 'good on you for standing up to her. But I just feel I was a bit of a gobby cow and made a scene. I'm embarrassed I lost my shit.

Sorry this was long. Feel free to tell me I'm mouthy and I'll duct tape my mouth next time! Grin

It’s a judgement call & dynamic risk assessment, will it escalate,is it safe
I think case by case basis, I don’t think there’s a universal speak up rule
Glad it resolved ok and nice that driver apologised and passengers acknowledged you

JessicaJonesJacket · 25/04/2018 19:29

Not UR that she was kicked off the bus but I always think it's unwise to challenge a drunk stranger. They're unlikely to listen to you. You'll make them angrier and you have no idea what they will do next.

Bit harsh hazell42 it wasn't that dramatic Grin

Thanks chickens I just didn't want to stoop to her level. You can't reason with drunk and I keep thinking I should have just ignored her like everyone else!

Sounds like the usual on the number 24 to me.

This event I was sat opposite to Mr 'I'm about to Vomit' (v drunk, staring at his hands the whole journey making retching noises) and diagonally across from Mr 'If I don't hold my head it's going to fall off' (who may have wet himself judging by the smell and puddle).

reddingtn · 25/04/2018 19:39

Zibbidoo and hazell - I'm a regular poster, you can search my name. It wasn't even that dramatic, she wasn't physical or anything, just mouthing off at me. It seems a bit of a tame story to just make up?

I do have a video of her being removed from the bus though Smile

As a bus driver - I would prefer passengers to come and tell me if there is a disturbance because sometimes we just can't see or hear what's going on.

But no you didn't do anything wrong, well done for standing up to scum.

Let me guess, it doesn’t show your brave actions?

LemonysSnicket · 25/04/2018 19:47

The driver should’ve kicked off tbf but that failing you did right.

A drunk man pissed next to me at the bus stop at 9am on a Tuesday morning once.

wormery · 25/04/2018 19:48

Video of her being kicked off the bus, why, what are you planning to do with it, the woman behaved badly but may well be unwell, alcoholism is an illness. You wouldn't video someone with a disability.

reddingtn · 25/04/2018 19:49

Brave? Whilst I appreciate the sarcasm, being brave wasn't the point of the thread. I'm not normally confrontational and instead keep my head down, and today I just saw red and almost turned into some gobby cah from towie or something. It's played on my mind since as it's so out of character. Nothing happened, no violence, she left with only a slight argument, it was my reaction I wanted opinions on. It's hardly a stealth boast that I saved the day Hmm

I filmed her because I wasn't sure how she'd react when the bus driver told her to leave. As it turns out everything was fine and she left without too much of a fuss, but it could have escalated. Cctv on these buses often isn't working or switched off (I have forgotten/lost numerous items over the years and it's never been on!)

I think you were brave - well done ... I'd always be too nervous to goad someone when they're drunk because you never know how they will react

reddingtn · 25/04/2018 20:00

Hmm Zibbidoo it was just a question Smile

I'd have been laughing.
I'd have said its time you bought a fucking watch.

ilovesooty · 25/04/2018 20:03

Well since she left the bus and the incident is over surely you've deleted the video?

Sprinklesinmyelbow · 25/04/2018 20:05

I’m not sure you stuck up for her or got her kicked offHmm you just answered her surely?

I actually did once kick a woman off a bus. Even dusted my hands together afterwards for full effect. That was a good day

How exactly did you get her kicked off the bus? You said eventually the driver kicked her off the bus but the title says you "got" her kicked off??
