Mine's only 5.1 ....is that really small? When do they stop growing?

Mirrette · 23/04/2018 16:32

5 ft 4. No, 5 ft 1 isn't small. I think they stop growing about 15?

user1472334322 · 23/04/2018 16:32

That's how tall I was at 14 and at 41 I'm 5 foot 2!

Trinity66 · 23/04/2018 16:33

My 18 year old DD is 5'2" Grin

Girls stop growing between 14 & 15 so she might have a little more in her yet!

DragonsAndCakes · 23/04/2018 16:35

It looks like 5’1” is 50th centile for a 13 yr old, 25th for a 14 yr old. So it’s fine.

14 year old girl, 4ft 8

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 16:37

My DD was about that iirc - she's got to about 5'2" now, which is an inch more than me. No, it's not 'really small', it's towards the lower end of a normal distribution of women's height. Average women's height in the uk is 5'3 I think, though it will probably be a bit more for younger cohorts.

AjasLipstick · 23/04/2018 16:38

Dragons thanks...she's almost 14 though ...so slipping into that 25th centile.

And we live in Australia...land of the giants! That's why I think she's small probably. Every second child is huge it seems.

RhurbabAndCustard · 23/04/2018 16:38

I was 5'2 at that age and grew to 5'8. My DS12 is only 5'

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 16:38

5'1 is absolutely fine for a full-grown adult, and a positive advantage when flying economyGrin

AjasLipstick · 23/04/2018 16:39

Dragons that chart is for boys...is there a girls one?

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 16:41

Some googling suggests average women's height in australia is under 5'4.

SirVixofVixHall · 23/04/2018 16:41

My dd was 13 at Christmas. She is five four and a half, and I would say she’s tallish in her age group. I was under five foot at her age and I’m just under five eight now. I did hit puberty late though, so more growing time. Dd might end up smaller than me as she started her periods 12m ago.

Chimchar · 23/04/2018 16:42

Mine is bloody massive....5'11 and not stopped yet!
I'm only 5'6, and dh is 5'11. BlushGrin

Annabelle4 · 23/04/2018 16:43

She could have a growth spurt yet.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2018 16:43

Here's the girls chart

(Good grief... blue and pinkHmm)

AjasLipstick · 23/04/2018 16:44

Errol I suppose they mean adult women? Looking around at teenagers in our small town, I can't see 5.4 being average. They're generally as tall or taller than I am at DD"s age. A lot of her mates are taller than me and I'm 5.6.

OP posts:
SluttyButty · 23/04/2018 16:44

Mine was about that height at 13, she's nearly 19 now and 5ft 4. I think she stopped growing at around 16ish.

DuchyDuke · 23/04/2018 16:45

I was 5 7 at that age but started my period / puberty earlier than most. If she had hers at 12 it’s possible she might grow a bit more.

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/04/2018 16:46

5'2, hasn't grown more now she's 16.
I was the same height until I broke my back and shrank.
Some people are short.

Dutchy I always heard girls stopped soon after their periods started....so the sooner they begin, the smaller they grow?

OP posts:
SirVixofVixHall · 23/04/2018 16:49

Oh and I didn’t stop growing until I was 19. Periods started at nearly 16, when periods start affects when growth stops. Dd has her growth strictly monitored as she has a condition that can affect growth, the consultant said that after periods start you’ve got around two more years of growth.

jammiebammie · 23/04/2018 16:54

Just to add, my dd is 15 now and is 5’6, she has grown 6 inches in the last 18 months and has gone up 3 shoe sizes... has your dd started her periods yet? I believe I read somewhere that once they start mensturating they can grow an extra inch or 2, my dd was late to start which I why I suppose she still grew taller.
What height are you and her df? That will have the biggest effect on what her height will be.
I was more surprised for my dd being small as I’m 5’8 and her dad is 6’1, but the difference in photos of her in last year are unbelievable!

LegallyBrunet · 23/04/2018 16:54

My fourteen year old sister is five foot six

RumTiTum · 23/04/2018 16:54

I'm 5ft 1 and 43! I don't stand out as being particularly short, plenty of my friends are a similar height. I stopped growing at 13. I read somewhere that girls usually stop growing about 2 years after starting their periods.
