To be panicking re. call back to a&e?

So took my 3 year old to a&e two nights ago as she managed to get hold of button batteries from a supposedly (!) secure location in our house and I couldn't be 100% sure she hadn't put one in her mouth and they can be very dangerous. I was almost certain she hadn't but better to be safe than sorry of course.

No battery showed up on the x ray so all fine.

Got a call this evening asking me to bring her back in to a&e tomorrow morning and I have spent the rest of tonight an anxious mess. The person on the phone couldn't offer any information about what it's regarding.

Anyone have any experiences of being called back to a&e after an x-ray? I'm assuming it's not battery related as I think they would have had us back in straight away and the doctor said when we were originally at the hospital that they are pretty easy to spot. But sounds like something semi urgent if they want her in at such short notice?

I don't think I will sleep tonight. No point to this post really and apologies for posting in AIBU but appreciate the traffic in case anyone has had a similar situation or knowledge.

Checking for aspiration isn't camera down the throat. They will add a special paste to food and drink and ask her to swallow whilst video x raying her. My little one has silent aspiration. Her chest was really crackly (you could feel it as well as hear it), and she started having lots of infections at 9 months old. She has a neurological issues which is still undiagnosed, which is why she can't swallow liquid safely. Her drinks are all thickened, which has meant we have avoided tube feeding for liquids

Wishing you good luck.

My strapping DS now 18 was tested 3 times for CF - all thankfully negative. He was tiny, always cheery and multiple cases of pneumonia and did not have a firm stool until after his 3rd birthday.

Turned out it was all related to food allergies so your concerns about caellic could fit.

Wishing you good luck for today.

I'm sort you're going through this OP the waiting is so tough. Fingers crossed for you and your DD.

AppleFlapjack · 03/05/2018 10:18

My DC has CF, it is possible from what you describe but unlikely. In terms of her being petite if she was pancreatic insufficient (as most CF are), you would notice very oily loose poos, constipation unlikely and she would probably be quite malnourished and thin. My DC was diagnosed early but lost masses of weight in the first few weeks and without treatment would have been very underweight.

Some CF patients have a functioning pancreas, these are normally more rare types or "Atypical" and they are likely to have much less severe cases. Feel free to message me if you have any questions I'm happy to answer any I can Flowers

Good luck OP! Thinking of you today Thanks

Finsmum86 · 03/05/2018 11:46

Thank you everyone. Waiting to be seen right now. Sorry misdee, the aspiration thing was more that they were concerned about her having inhaled a foreign body rather than food-wise as far as I understand, although I don't think I fully took everything in last time! Thanks everyone. Will update soon

Flowers I hope you get some reassurance soon.

tkband3 · 03/05/2018 11:54

I've only just seen this thread, but am glad you're going to ask for a coeliac test. Everything you've mentioned about your DD was saying coeliac to me - very similar to my DD when she was diagnosed just before her 3rd birthday. She was also tested for CF due to failure to thrive at the same time. Please do follow your instincts and request this - even if it's just to rule it out. Happy to help if you have any questions Flowers.
