To be panicking re. call back to a&e?

Finsmum86 · 18/04/2018 23:32

So took my 3 year old to a&e two nights ago as she managed to get hold of button batteries from a supposedly (!) secure location in our house and I couldn't be 100% sure she hadn't put one in her mouth and they can be very dangerous. I was almost certain she hadn't but better to be safe than sorry of course.

No battery showed up on the x ray so all fine.

Got a call this evening asking me to bring her back in to a&e tomorrow morning and I have spent the rest of tonight an anxious mess. The person on the phone couldn't offer any information about what it's regarding.

Anyone have any experiences of being called back to a&e after an x-ray? I'm assuming it's not battery related as I think they would have had us back in straight away and the doctor said when we were originally at the hospital that they are pretty easy to spot. But sounds like something semi urgent if they want her in at such short notice?

I don't think I will sleep tonight. No point to this post really and apologies for posting in AIBU but appreciate the traffic in case anyone has had a similar situation or knowledge.

I hope you get reassuring news from the hospital asap. One of my dd's had the sweat test and it's very straightforward. I would definitely mention the past stool issue, they might want check for ceoliac disease. (I have no medical background just know the same dd was checked for this also due to some similar symptoms). Best of luck.

Even if you don't request an extension, please do talk to your uni tutor, as they will then have a record (in advance of grading - that bit is important!) of the situation and it might just stop your overall degree grading going down from a 1st to a 2:1. Also its worth asking your doctor to write a letter explaining how stressful you are finding things at this time. This should not be allowed to affect your grade for university.

Pythonesque · 26/04/2018 13:48

Seconding the importance of letting your university know what is going on. I've come back to this thread unsurprised at your followup to be honest, from your initial postings I was thinking, yes, try the antibiotics but I bet in a week it will still be there and there will be talk of further investigations.

From what you described on the xray, I think they'll be wanting to do the bronchoscopy alongside whatever additional tests are warranted. CF testing and maybe others. If the area on the xray turns out to be some sort of bronchiectasis then I think you'll probably be starting chest physio even if it is not CF.

There's going to be a lot on your plate for the next few weeks - very best wishes with carving out time to finish your uni stuff but your tutors will surely understand! It may be that you can get an extension that delays graduation if need be, that could be a better outcome than sacrificing a really good grading.

Very best wishes and update us when you can.

I second definitely keeping your university tutor etc in the loop about what is happening - if you can’t face talking you could send them an email.
That said, you might be surprised how your brain can hold it together for a few weeks. I went through some dreadful stuff around this time when I was at university so I really sympathise. Especially with the fact an extension wouldn’t even really help. Do what you can, carve out what time you can, grit your teeth and then process it all when these weeks are over. Or if you can’t do that be kind to yourself and I am sure the university will find a way to sort this for you, just keep talking to them.
Thinking of you Flowers

I have been thinking of you OP - how are things holding up?

Ohb0llocks · 02/05/2018 04:09

Any more news OP? Did you see your GP?

KiaCar · 02/05/2018 04:18

Bless you op so much to deal with but you’re doing so well.
Definitely speak to uni just check in with your tutor and let them know what’s happening.
Hopefully not long until next app being in limbo waiting is very stressful I bet. Hope everything is ok.

Op how are you and DD doing? Is there any more news? Flowers

Finsmum86 · 02/05/2018 22:32

We are back at the hospital tomorrow for another review after a week of stronger antibiotics. I know it's still there though, just like I did last time. You can hear it and feel it, shes exactly the same, well in herself but still crackly and coughing. So it will be further investigation like they advised at our last appointment. Regarding the bowel issues, I'm going to also request testing for cealiacs too as their aunty has it, and its hereditary, so it may be that its two separate things going on, who knows. I'm feeling a little better, managed to get another week extension for my dissertation so it's due next week now, and I'm 2/3 of the way through. Thanks for asking, and I will update tomorrow after our appointment.

Very best of luck tomorrow. Try and go easy on yourself tonight. I’m sure your tutor will let you have another week if needs be

NeverTwerkNaked · 02/05/2018 23:17

I really hope tomorrow goes well.
Glad you have got an extension, it sounds like you are making impressive progress in the circumstances. Nearly there now with the work, the ends in sight! I am sure your university will be understanding of any further extensions etc needed.

HeedMove · 02/05/2018 23:28

Hope it goes ok at the hospital tomorrow thinking of you. Please keep your uni in the loop, my DD had death of her grandmother during her open uni degree and death of her FIL when doing her Masters and both times the uni where exceptional with their support.

MusicalMummyJules · 02/05/2018 23:46

Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

StrugglingMumma · 03/05/2018 00:00

Good luck op

RedOrange21 · 03/05/2018 07:32

Was also going to mention coliaec as symptoms seem consistent with it - I had my daughter tested for similar reasons. Plus as it's autoimmune it can affect other organs if gluten still in the diet. Hope you get some answers asap.

ScarlettDarling · 03/05/2018 07:36
