To be panicking re. call back to a&e?

So took my 3 year old to a&e two nights ago as she managed to get hold of button batteries from a supposedly (!) secure location in our house and I couldn't be 100% sure she hadn't put one in her mouth and they can be very dangerous. I was almost certain she hadn't but better to be safe than sorry of course.

No battery showed up on the x ray so all fine.

Got a call this evening asking me to bring her back in to a&e tomorrow morning and I have spent the rest of tonight an anxious mess. The person on the phone couldn't offer any information about what it's regarding.

Anyone have any experiences of being called back to a&e after an x-ray? I'm assuming it's not battery related as I think they would have had us back in straight away and the doctor said when we were originally at the hospital that they are pretty easy to spot. But sounds like something semi urgent if they want her in at such short notice?

I don't think I will sleep tonight. No point to this post really and apologies for posting in AIBU but appreciate the traffic in case anyone has had a similar situation or knowledge.

I second what Barbra says; maybe they just need to double check or (this happened with one of my dc's) they didn't follow the correct procedures ie sometimes someone more senior needs to look at something to give the ok and if the guidelines weren't followed correctly then they might need to see you again

I had that when I was a teen ,I went to a&e for an x-ray, they said it was clear and sent me home...called us about two or three days later, told my mother to bring us back the next day, wouldn't tell us why...my mother was worried and imagining all sorts of scenarios like you probably are..

Mine turned out to be they missed something on the xray, they had looked it again and saw a small chip and fracture on my elbow....

So maybe it's something g similar with your situation...maybe they spotted something they missed and wanted to recall you in to notify you...I hope it calms your fears to know that if it was very serious/urgent they would likely call you to go back to a&e straightaway , it's likely they have sorted something on the xray they missed before and wanted to tell you....

Hope everything is ok today?

MojoMissing · 19/04/2018 01:31

Good luck tomorrow OP.

Two hours since you posted OP, hope the time is going quick for you or that you have managed to get some sleep. Best wishes.

RavenclawRealist · 19/04/2018 01:41

I wouldn't worry to much about what time tomorrow any dr should be able to tell you why the need to see you so even if the specific one isn't there it shouldn't be a problem. I hope that you manage to get some sleep tonight, anything urgent they would call you straight back most likely there is something on your the x-ray that is unclear a possible fracture or maybe some infection and they want to get a second x-ray to be sure if it's something or nothing, just them being safe. As you say she is otherwise well it's probably nothing but they just want to be sure.

Noqonterfy · 19/04/2018 01:44

Hope she's ok op xx

My ds got his hand trapped in a door as a toddler, took him to A&E, he was x-rayed and we were told all fine. About a week later I got a call saying he needed to go back urgently but no explanation. It turned out that when the consultant looked at it there were a few fingers broken.

In your case I doubt that they have spotted a battery as they would tell you to come in ASAP, but they may have spotted something in the Xray? A friend of mine took her son to A&E due to sever vomiting 9which turned out to be food poisoning) but a scan revealed that he only had one kidney, which they knew nothing about as at the 20 week scan there had been 2!

Easier said than done OP, but try not to worry. If there was anything harmful they would have told you to come in immediately.

I’d go in early in the morning because hanging around won’t help anyone’s stress levels! Have breakfast and go. Hope she’s ok

GlitteryFluff · 19/04/2018 04:39

Hope everything is ok when you go Thanks

ohfourfoxache · 19/04/2018 06:30

Hope you get some answers soon

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 19/04/2018 06:33

Maybe they’ll X-ray her again, just to double check.

Abitlost2015 · 19/04/2018 06:41

OP if the battery had been seen on senior review you’d be wanted straight away, it must be something else. Was she examined by a doctor? (As opposed to a doctor just looking at the xRay) they may have missed a step needed prior to discharging a paediatric patient.

seventh · 19/04/2018 06:46

In my experience, if it is something super urgent and serious , they get you back straight away 💕💕

WellThisIsShit · 19/04/2018 06:59

I bet it’s something non-worrying, and the call was just handled with a lack of humanity that seems to be the default for some people.

LittleBird74 · 19/04/2018 06:59

My son fell and hurt his foot. He was discharged from A&E after an X-ray but we were called back the next day as someone else reviewed the X-ray and saw a small fracture.

LittleBird74 · 19/04/2018 06:59

Hope everything is well at your appointment today!

Thatbloodydog · 19/04/2018 07:06

MimsyBorogroves · 19/04/2018 07:10

How worrying for you, OP. I hope you get some answers today.

Frouby · 19/04/2018 07:11

Hope it's something and nothing OP. I would be worried too but it could just be for a repeat xray.

StylishMummy · 19/04/2018 07:11

Good luck OP!

luckiestgirl · 19/04/2018 07:12

Hope all is well OP

sueelleker · 19/04/2018 07:15

I sprained my ankle badly once, had an x-ray and sent home. They called 2 days later to say they'd found a fracture and could I come back to have a cast fitted!

MsJaneAusten · 19/04/2018 07:16

Hope all is okay this morning Flowers
