To be panicking re. call back to a&e?

Finsmum86 · 18/04/2018 23:32

So took my 3 year old to a&e two nights ago as she managed to get hold of button batteries from a supposedly (!) secure location in our house and I couldn't be 100% sure she hadn't put one in her mouth and they can be very dangerous. I was almost certain she hadn't but better to be safe than sorry of course.

No battery showed up on the x ray so all fine.

Got a call this evening asking me to bring her back in to a&e tomorrow morning and I have spent the rest of tonight an anxious mess. The person on the phone couldn't offer any information about what it's regarding.

Anyone have any experiences of being called back to a&e after an x-ray? I'm assuming it's not battery related as I think they would have had us back in straight away and the doctor said when we were originally at the hospital that they are pretty easy to spot. But sounds like something semi urgent if they want her in at such short notice?

I don't think I will sleep tonight. No point to this post really and apologies for posting in AIBU but appreciate the traffic in case anyone has had a similar situation or knowledge.

Hope your little one is ok

flumpybear · 19/04/2018 08:14

I wonder if perhaps part of the tract wasn't visible in the original x ray so they need another angle to be sure. It could be incidental findings too (ie something else showed up) but I'd be convinced it's my first suggestion
Really hope all is well and there's no battery lurking anyway

Fretfulparent · 19/04/2018 08:14

Old fracture?

jammiebammie · 19/04/2018 08:15

Good luck to you and your dd today Op.
My first thought was that they might want to repeat the X-ray as if she swallowed a battery it would be further down now and easier to spot on an X-ray, perhaps the first X-ray didn’t show all of dds digestive track and they’re covering their own backs.
Very worrying for you, and hopefully everything is ok.

C4Envelope · 19/04/2018 08:16

Hope you managed to get a good sleep last night, let us know how you get on today. Hope Your DD is ok Thanks

My dd was called back 10 days after visiting a and e with an injured toe! We were told at the time it was just badly bruised but when it was reviewed by the consultant they saw a tiny fracture (10 days later!). They rang to tell me but at the time she was turning cartwheels out in the garden so I just laughed and said she was fine 😁

Ancientmummyofwooooos · 19/04/2018 08:18

Best of luck for today, hoping you get there and its something silly Flowers

I have had this experience . I hurt my knee while bouncing on a trampoline and went to a&e. It was rayed and I was told there was nothing to see and sent home with a crepe bandage. Later that day I had a call asking me to go back. A senior radiologist had reviewd the X-ray and he had seen an oily globule which could only have escaped via a fracture. A re examination showed a tibial plateau fracture and it was plastered.

Prusik · 19/04/2018 08:21

Good luck this morning op. I had a call back for my son, although under different circumstances. I know how worried you feel. I was told "something unexpected has show up". It's terrifying

lljkk · 19/04/2018 08:27

to me it just sounds like followup. To double check if they can find anything after all. Nothing bad. The callback wouldn't worry me.

Except... it's sad that NHS is a bit disorganised. But terrible underfunding does that.

Idontdowindows · 19/04/2018 08:41

OP, keeping everything crossed that it's nothing.

Jux · 19/04/2018 08:44

Good luck today. Hope it's nothing.

blueskyinmarch · 19/04/2018 08:45

I hope all is well OP.

JessicaJonesJacket · 19/04/2018 08:45

It's a shame they didn't do more to reassure you over the telephone. Sometimes medical staff seem to forget how worrying such calls can be. As others have said, if it was an emergency, they would have told you to go back in urgently.I hope you get it resolved quickly this morning Flowers

Meopham · 19/04/2018 08:47

There is probably something they need to check / didn't spot at the time, but the person whose job it is to ring you up isn't allowed to tell you, as that will be the preserve of somebody else. Or they don't like to tell people over the phone, they like to talk face to face.

Pinkywoo · 19/04/2018 08:49

Any news Op? Flowers

Heismyopendoor · 19/04/2018 08:53

CollyWombles · 19/04/2018 09:00

AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers · 19/04/2018 09:01

How worrying, I hope everything is OK OP Flowers

BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2018 09:04

Crikey OP I would be worried too though, like most really worrying things, there was no need to worry. Fingers crossed

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/04/2018 09:05

They've probably mislabelled something and can't sign her off until they repeat some test or examination. Or the consultant suggested a different view X-ray would have been better.

Obviously bring her in, but it won't be anything worrying. Also, whoever you speak to when you get there will probably have no idea what it was and get confused when you turn up.

MadisonAvenue · 19/04/2018 09:05

Best wishes for today Flowers

MariaFranco · 19/04/2018 09:08
