To be seriously scared

About the situation with Russia and the US. Putin said he'll shoot down any US missiles fired at Assad forces. Are we on the verge of all out war? Please calm me down.

It's completely out of your hands. You can't predict the future or change the course of something like this. So just focus on your own life and maybe stop reading the news if it's causing you anxiety.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 11/04/2018 14:05

I’ve given up watching the news, it’s all anxiety inducing now. There’s really nothing we can do about it, so I just ignore it all.

biscuitraider · 11/04/2018 14:10

I know that worrying is futile but that doesn't stop it. Just wondered if others thought the same or if it's just sabre rattling. I don't watch the news or read papers but scary stuff pops up on my ipad uninvited.

TooTrueToBeGood · 11/04/2018 14:12

It's sabre rattling right now but then most wars start off with sabre rattling. I find the situation concerning but I'm too long in the tooth to go as far as being scared - I don't waste emotional energy on things I cannot change or control.

LimonViola · 11/04/2018 14:18

Do you struggle to control or manage your worrying about other things in your life too? What sort of impact does it have on your life and happiness?

scaryteacher · 11/04/2018 14:24

One could argue that at least Trump is enforcing a red line on the use of chemical weapons, unlike Obama, and although those reprisals will stop short of huge damage, a response will have been made. I note that it was believed to be Israel who sent missiles in earlier on, just after the use of the chemical weapons.

Luckingfovely · 11/04/2018 14:31

Oh cripes, there really is no point at all giving this any headspace.

Can I suggest a complete news black out for you? I have seen many people who do this end up a lot happier. Focus your energies on your family and your friends and real life, you'll be much happier.

Luckingfovely · 11/04/2018 14:32

Saw your second post. Turn off the notifications on your iPad!

biscuitraider · 11/04/2018 14:33

No i don't worry too much about other things, just this.

DairyisClosed · 11/04/2018 14:34

You really need to calm down. That's not how Russia works

Idrinkandiknowstuff · 11/04/2018 14:34

Meh, six months ago it was war with North Korea everyone was panicking about. This too shall pass.

DiegoMadonna · 11/04/2018 14:36

We are not on the verge of all-out war, no. So you can stop worrying.

ShawshanksRedemption · 11/04/2018 14:37

This ^^. Now Kim and Trump have plans to meet up. It's a lot like kids in the playground - hate each other one minute, best buds the next.

viques · 11/04/2018 14:40

It is sabre rattling. I remember the Cuban missile crisis (and some drunk old tosser telling me on the way home from school that missiles had been launched).

Putin is a bastard but he is not that stupid. it would not be in Russia's interest to attack the west, he is a bully, allies himself with other bullies, but stands next to the teacher when the big kids come out to play.

DailyMailFail101 · 11/04/2018 14:42

Whatever is going to happen will happen weather you worry about it or not so you may as well jus get on with your life

PeanutbutterBuns · 11/04/2018 14:42

Medical professionals don't diagnose over the internet so you can generally ignore people who post this sort of PA attempt at "helpful".

The fact is people are very complacent about a world that has been at war since, well, forever. Any normal thinking person will worry when things start to get real. This country and other western countries aren't ot immune from war, we've just been lucky in our lifetimes. People idly telling others not to worry you can't do anything about it is why the world is so damn crap at sorting its issues out. War, famine, environmental.

Yes, but that doesn't mean worrying is a choice people make either. It's a human reaction to perceived danger. I had a mw tell me the same when I thought I was miscarrying, didn't stop me worrying and made me feel shitter.

LimonViola · 11/04/2018 14:45

That's nice of you, PeanutbutterBuns. You have no idea what I was going to say to the OP if she'd said she did worry on a wider scale. You're totally off base thinking it was passive aggressive, so wind your neck in.

FindoGask · 11/04/2018 14:45

"Medical professionals don't diagnose over the internet so you can generally ignore people who post this sort of PA attempt at "helpful"."

Spot on.

Snowysky20009 · 11/04/2018 14:47

I'm a worrier so I've stopped reading the news daily like I used too. I found it was giving me bad anxiety and even nightmares- over something I have no control over!
Doesn't stop me worrying, but I don't to the level I was because I don't know what's happening!

AnitaLovesVictor · 11/04/2018 14:47

I think it's sabre-rattling, to distract from the crap he's facing at home. Neither Trump nor Putin are stupid enough. Well, Trump probably is. But Putin's just evil, not stupid.

kimanda · 11/04/2018 14:52

I am not seriously scared, but I am a bit worried I must admit.

YANBU to be very scared though - that is your right, and is also understandable. It is a scary time right now.

Being a bit of an oldie, I remember all the threats of nuclear was in the 1980's. So I think I am hardened to it a bit, but yeah it is on my mind a bit. Not enough to affect my life or well-being, but yeah I am a bit worried.

The North Korea thing made me a bit concerned, but not as much as the Russia thing. I am more worried about Russia to be honest.

Try not to fret @biscuitraider until there is something to worry about. (But you are not silly for doing so though!) Smile

kimanda · 11/04/2018 14:52

Nuclear WAR in the 1980's not nuclear WAS,

GET AN EDIT BUTTON MUMSNET Grrrrrrr

biscuitraider · 11/04/2018 14:52

I wish we could put the pair of them in a desert and let them fight it out themselves......frightening the whole world with their scary talk.
