About the situation with Russia and the US. Putin said he'll shoot down any US missiles fired at Assad forces. Are we on the verge of all out war? Please calm me down.

Was that to me Justanother?

I'm not following this whole discussion - I just looked back to see how the thread was still going, and saw FGTH.

nursy1 · 13/04/2018 20:52

potassium fluoride has a boatload of uses and you can buy it online, its a massive stretch to say we was selling them chemical weapons

It’s a component of chemical weapons which has to be licenced to export. The export licence was revoked as Assad was known to be creating and stockpiling chemical weapons. Widely reported Lurker I chose the DM cos I felt you might like that one best.
You don’t read do you, Just post without thinking.

Justanotherlurker · 13/04/2018 21:32

Oh, such a tired ad-hominem attack and trying to be superior to boot, congrats!

You suggested that we were selling chemical weapons to syria and tried to back up the claim with a hyperbole article from the daily mail, of all pieces, the fact that you think you have some kind of gotcha argument ignores the fact that the article points out (but was apparently for my benefit Hmm) was suggesting that selling a WHO sanctioned component was somehow complicit.

I gave you an out with the potassium fluoride, you, with your nuanced knowledge seem to have ignored that and decided to show me an article about toothpaste.

Things are kicking off rather alarmingly tonight.

Here's for cools heads, and more jaw-jaw, less war-war.

AnitaLovesVictor · 13/04/2018 22:42

Sorry, just watching Newsnight. That wasn't in response to nursy.

TheLongHotSummer · 13/04/2018 22:49

Hands up all those who STILL think men make the best leaders.....anyone....anyone...????

biscuitraider · 13/04/2018 22:57

What's happening Anita, in a non alarming way if possible please.

Coldwaragain · 13/04/2018 22:58

I'm with you OP, terrified.

AnitaLovesVictor · 13/04/2018 22:59

Oh, I was alarmed by Russia accusing Britain of 'staging' the Syrian gas attacks.

It seems so ludicrous, but also escalating into 'fighting talk'.

I don't think Theresa May is one to do anything knee-jerk though.

cozietoesie · 13/04/2018 22:59

I'm sorry for your fear, OP. Now is the time to keep your courage high and bright - and to keep smiling for any children (or other innocents) around.

biscuitraider · 13/04/2018 23:01

I'm getting how i was in the 80s when i was petrified of hearing sirens. I'm feeling very anxious now.

Raven88 · 13/04/2018 23:12

@biscuitraider Russia and The USA aren't going to blow each other up, they will attack each other in a way that affects money. I think it will be cyber attacks. That's the impression I'm getting. Stop worrying.A part of me believes that Trump and Putin aren't really fighting. If Trump was to beat Russia that would put his approval ratings up and probably get him re elected.

cozietoesie · 13/04/2018 23:14

Phone family or friends for a chin wag. (Don't mention any Troubles.) Smile

bringbacksideburns · 13/04/2018 23:14

I'm not reading or watching any of it. Made the decision a couple of days ago to keep it in perspective.

I suggest if it's making you anxious or you already suffer from anxiety you do the same.

AnitaLovesVictor · 13/04/2018 23:16

Cyber attacks could be really serious.

biscuitraider · 13/04/2018 23:18

bringback i'm not watching it, far too scary.

nursy1 · 13/04/2018 23:20

I’ve written to my MP (again) apart from that kind of lobbying and using my vote wisely little else I or anyone else can do in this crazy world.
Watching Graham Norton. That would take your mind off it.

Raven88 · 13/04/2018 23:21

@biscuitraider Don't believe everything that is reported it's always spun in a dramatic way.

StealthPolarBear · 14/04/2018 06:35

Devora I agree.
So action has now been taken. What next?

cozietoesie · 14/04/2018 06:40

Who knows? Smile

Aliceinwanderland · 14/04/2018 06:59

Russia has been causing trouble for years, Uzbekistan, assisinating Litvenyenko, trying to assisnate the Skirpals, cyber meddling in the us elections and the eu referendum. Is it more dangerous to try to negotiate with a bully - which they will ignore - or make a stand, even limited. I think accusing Britain of staging the chemical attack in Syria is Russia trying to isolate Britain from the rest of Europe given how strained things are in light of Brexit. The more dissonance there is between Britian, Europe and the US there is the stronger Russia's influence will be in the world. And they are bring challengef by other countries with rising importance in the world, China and India.I am not sure that the strikes are the right thing to do, but I fear that some confrontation with Russia will be inevitable at some point if they continue as they have.

PancakeBum · 14/04/2018 07:33

This article in the guardian helped my anxiety this morning, a nice measured response.

Coyoacan · 14/04/2018 07:43

What has Russia done in Uzbekistan?
