To ask how often, if ever, you get parking tickets?

We had a lot going on today and I forgot to top up the parking on the pay-by-phone thingy. So we have a £25 fine. DH acting like I shut his balls in the door on purpose and is sulking like an absolute pro.

Obviously I was annoyed to receive it, but it's too late to do anything about it now, so I'll just pay it and get on with life.

I have never EVER received a parking ticket before in the years I've been driving. DH now acting like I'm a financial liability 'Well, you're going to have to set reminders on your phone now to tell you when your time's up...'

AIBU to actually slam his balls in a door and tell him to leave me alone?!

He’s being an absolute twat and is far too old to sulk.

Sarsparella · 07/04/2018 15:59

Easy mistake to make and not the end of the world at all! Tell him to get a grip

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 16:00

My brother is having major surgery this afternoon. My DS, with ASD, spent an hour screaming into my face. I just didn't think 'Oh, the car'.

DH could've thought that though couldn't he? But perhaps the mental load is too great for him...

Cheeky cock. Like he has never made a mistake in his life?!

He owes you an apology for sulking. Definitely tell him to shut the fuck up.

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 16:02

It's that old SAHM chestnut though isn't it? It's not MY money to waste on such frivolities... Angry

Most bank holidays tbh - our local Waitrose has a council managed car park and invariably I think it's Sunday when it's BH Monday and the reminder costs me £30 every time. However my DH just guffaws loudly at me while I pay the fine and swear a lot. Your DH is a twat. PS you have the parking app rather than doing it by phone? Mine reminds me by text 10 mins before time's up.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 07/04/2018 16:02

What, he was there in the car park with you? So he was equally guilty of forgetting to pay?

Sirzy · 07/04/2018 16:02

I have had one.

Tell him when he is perfect he can criticise. These things happen

MorningsEleven · 07/04/2018 16:02

I've not had one in years but I once got 2 in a week and I'm a nightmare for booking advance train tickets then getting on the wrong train (my finest was travelling from Edinburgh to York and getting on the Aberdeen train) or missing the train or losing my phone with the tickets on them.

DH is good natured about it because he's no better.

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 16:05

Omg good point! DH got on the wrong train twice the other week, and had to buy two new tickets. I'll remind him of that!

I seem to get quite a lot of parking tickets Blush. I'd say it's a regular occurrence. So far this year I've spent £130 on them Hmm. DH just says "AGAIN?" But he doesn't care because it's not his money that pays it. He never gets them.

ForalltheSaints · 07/04/2018 16:30

Worth appealing and asking for clemency if you have never had a fine before. Council may be a bit more willing to forgive as local elections are coming up in many places.

Essexgirlupnorth · 07/04/2018 16:36

Never had a parking fine but did get a fine for driving in a bus lane which I was annoyed about as hadn't even noticed I had done it and don't think it was well signed as a bus lane as not a area I normally drive through.
Was addressed to hubby as the car is registered to him but just gave it to me as I had been driving at the time and I paid it

Hoppinggreen · 07/04/2018 16:39

Been driving over 25 years and had 1.
My car, I paid it so naff all to do with DH ( who didn’t care anyway)

Caroline680 · 07/04/2018 16:40

I’ve worked out that near us it’s cheaper to risk it and get tickets.

AlpacaLypse · 07/04/2018 16:47

I've had three altogether in 25 years of driving.

Bythepath · 07/04/2018 16:52

I had one the other week when I forgot to put out the dial thing. No excuse I just forgot. My DH didn't say anything. We did get one when my DC2 was in hospital and as there is such rubbish on site parking we were on a nearby road. We did have a ticket but it expired and DH couldn't get back to top up for an hour. They overturned it under the circumstances.

19lottie82 · 07/04/2018 16:56

Worth appealing and asking for clemency
if you have never had a fine before.

I don’t think not having a ticket before is a valid reason for an appeal!

Also with my council, the fine is £60, reduced to £30 if you pay within 14 days. If you appeal then you lose the right to the reduced payment. So, if they reject your appeal then you have to pay the full £60.

Unicorndiscoball · 07/04/2018 17:01

When I lived in London 10 years ago I used to get LOADS, we had four different types of parking bays with different permits and timings on and it was just a nightmare. However I appealed several and got them overturned for various reasons (they’d issued it before 8am when restrictions started etc etc) since then I’ve had one in a car park that for the previous 10 years had always been free on a Sunday, and they’d changed it to 50p for the day 🙄 so I got a £25 fine. Was quite pissed off with that one! DH got one last week at the station - he parks there three times a week and has done for 6 years-the one time he forgot to pay he got one and it’s £50.

cardibach · 07/04/2018 17:07

In the circumstances, OP, it’s not surprising you forgot and got a ticket. All the posters who get them regularly are a puzzlement though - it’s gemerally not difficult to pay appropriately for parking and you are spending an awful lot on fines which you could spend on something more useful or fun. How/why do you let it keep happening?

Dingdong1975 · 07/04/2018 17:08

Is it really worth a stress for £25?

I did appeal once to the council, the fine was £30-£40 can't remember. I did have the ticket, only that the ticket was upside down! I took a picture of my valid ticket and sent it to the council and they removed the fine.

MrsBobtonTrent · 07/04/2018 17:12

DH never pays for parking and just sorts the fine out when he gets one. He pays £25 2-3 times a year for the privilege of not having to bother with change or running out of time. I would love to be so blasé, but I am obviously a forelock tugger by nature.

DontOpenDeadInside · 07/04/2018 17:20

11years driving and only had 1 unfair one which was overturned. (Hospital parking has 20 mins leeway, I was 2 mins over which would have taken longer than that to actually park up)

GreasyFryUp · 07/04/2018 17:22

Last few years probably about 4-5 a year. Due to be forgetting or taking risks. I just suck it up plus it's worth taking risks in the area I park.

Littlebelina · 07/04/2018 17:37

Your OH is a dick. I damaged our car by being a pillock recently and DH said to pay out of the joint account rather than me pay. And that was a lot more than £25.

Make sure to remind him about the train tickets
