To ask how often, if ever, you get parking tickets?

We had a lot going on today and I forgot to top up the parking on the pay-by-phone thingy. So we have a £25 fine. DH acting like I shut his balls in the door on purpose and is sulking like an absolute pro.

Obviously I was annoyed to receive it, but it's too late to do anything about it now, so I'll just pay it and get on with life.

I have never EVER received a parking ticket before in the years I've been driving. DH now acting like I'm a financial liability 'Well, you're going to have to set reminders on your phone now to tell you when your time's up...'

AIBU to actually slam his balls in a door and tell him to leave me alone?!

One last year in cornwall private car park and motorbike, we paid for parking but you cant attach a ticket to a bike as someone always nicks it, and bikes are free in council car parks, got a fine, argued it as they said doing us for not displaying a ticket despite sending the ticket to them, argued what are we supposed to do pay twice what everyone else was paying and risking sticking ticket on bike which if nicked cant prove we paid for one let alone two tickets and fine was squashed

jamoncrumpets · 07/04/2018 17:44

I lived and drove in London for two years - not a single ticket! DH knows he's been a prize dick and has been reminded about the train fuckups.

i too just run the risk - they made lots of parking wardens redundant and so during the week you are barely ever caught. £25 three times a year here to.

I am definitely in credit

Try a full stop or a comma?

Cornishclio · 07/04/2018 17:46

Never had one before last week. I payed my money for a ticket while shopping. Got a call from a friend suggesting lunch which would have taken me over the time so I bought another ticket. Turns out there was maximum 2 hours stay so buying another ticket after 2 hours wasn't allowed. Gutted especially as I got back about 5 minutes after ticket issued. Debating whether just to pay £30 within the 14 days.

ForalltheSaints · 07/04/2018 17:46

The OP has mentioned her brother having major surgery. I cannot imagine any council would want to be seen as so heartless as to refuse an appeal.

BlueThesaurusRex · 07/04/2018 17:48

Got one last month (my first) - just totally forgot to buy the ticket. I usually buy them on my phone as I arrive but was distracted and forgot Sad

TacoFlavouredKisses · 07/04/2018 17:49

Definitely give appealing it a go if it's your first one! I've only had one ticket in 12 years of driving because my permit blew off the dashboard and was let off. It's worth a try!

Nothisispatrick · 07/04/2018 17:50

DP got 1 once when we were out together. We were both new drivers and parked in a car park to go shopping on a high street. We both just walked off, didn't even occur to us that we might have to pay for parking as we'd never done it before Blush

isseywithcats · 07/04/2018 17:51

Caroline 680. 4 commas in my post ? whats punctuation got to do with post about parking tickets, some weird people on here

IntoTheFloodAgain · 07/04/2018 17:53

I’ve had one once. I ended up having unexpected drinks, completely forgot I even had a car (to pay for more parking not to drive home) and went home. It was a very confusing morning after.

It happens, it’s not the end of the world!

ThePinkOcelot · 07/04/2018 17:54

I had one not too long ago for staying 32 minutes over the allowed 3 hours in Morrison’s car park. £85!!

MorningsEleven · 07/04/2018 18:25

Nothisispatrick

You're a pair of fannies 🤣🤣🤣

And no, I have never done this🤔

Whatififall · 07/04/2018 18:35

Your DH sounds like he’s reacted like a dick.

I get quite a few fines. There’s a car park near my work that isn’t covered by a warden every day, so I chance it. I got a fine in October and another at the end of February. Like other posted, even with paying the two fines, I’m in credit.

Cowsopinion · 07/04/2018 18:38

Is he always so dramatic?

Only had one fine, a private one which was £120! Bloody rip off. Appealed and it got quashed.

itstimeforanamechange · 07/04/2018 19:00

I have had them twice. Both in council car parks. The first time we bought a ticket but it was obscured by an MOT reminder ticket on our window, and neither DH not I realised. I would have appealed it but DH paid it as it was £20.

The other time I was in Windsor and parked during the transition time from day rate to evening rate and didn't realise I'd not paid for the whole time I was going to be in the car park. I paid up.

One other time I got a private car park ticket - this was before the Parking Eye case in 2015, I sent them a letter with about five reasons why I was going to pay and never heard from them again.

I always check signage very carefully, make sure if I am parked on the street that there is nothing like residents permits only signs or the like. I double and triple check my ticket is displayed and if I am not sure that it''s ok to park I go elsewhere. If I don't know how long I am going to be in a pay and display I always overpay. I usually find I have overpaid by an hour but it's cheaper than the fine. I don't have to pay to park that often as I live close to my town centre and can walk.

If you appeal then you lose the right to the reduced payment. So, if they reject your appeal then you have to pay the full £60

That sounds very suspect to me. If there is a right to an appeal, there's a right to appeal. It doesn't matter that you lost the appeal, the time period ought to start running again. I'd pay the lower amount and say see you in court.

MatildaTheCat · 07/04/2018 19:07

Virtually never until I got a blue badge and several since. The reason being that different rules apply in different places and a couple of times I forgot to display it. Annoying not Earth shattering,

Dh gets them all the fucking time. This gives me rage because it’s tge equivalent of burning £50 notes. The cheeky fucker even asks me to sort them out sometimes Shock.

Fleurchamp · 07/04/2018 19:11

I have had a couple - but my DH recently parked our car in the incorrect bay for our permit. One end is resident parking, the other business. We don't use the car much (we live in London) and the car was parked several streets away and so it racked up 5 tickets before we noticed. The car was about a foot into the wrong bay.
I contacted the outsourced company and they agreed to reduce it to 3 tickets fortunately. It is annoying as we clearly had a permit and it was clearly just a mistake.

DaisyDando · 07/04/2018 19:12

I get them fairly regularly because there are millions of parking people and very, very confusing regulations. By this I mean the same 10 metres of road can have different rules, such as two hours only ( but not in the third Wednesday of May. ) I park in differing London boroughs and they are all awful. I've appealed successfully and unsuccessfully.

I do my best.

Sorry about yours OP. It's so annoying.

Nothisispatrick · 07/04/2018 19:19

MorningsEleven

Yep, we were in the changing room at uniqlo when dp realised, I went back to pay but it was too late.

JustDanceAddict · 07/04/2018 19:23

Not so much parking, cos am
Paranoid and check 100x, but I’ve had stopping over a cross hatch - so easy to get caught if you think traffic ahead is going to move(!) and also pulled up to let a friend out in pissing rain/dark and didn’t realise it was near a zebra crossing. I would say one every couple of years, but genuine mistakes. Dh gets more than me as he drives around for his work.

JustDanceAddict · 07/04/2018 19:24

Oh, and I got one even though I had the correct permit. Appealed and won (the photos showed car from all angles apart from where the permit was!).

snewsname · 07/04/2018 19:31

4 my entire life but only 2 that I actually had to pay.

Years ago one was from a London borough that I'd never ever been to, with a different colour and make of car described on the ticket although it was my registration number. On writing to them, I received a letter saying "we note your concerns, however can see no reason why you should not pay". Fortunately the guy on the phone laughed when I phoned with the sorry tale.

Another private one photographed my car reg going in a car park to drop someone off and recorded my exit the next day when I did the same. According to them I was in the car park for 18 hours. I'd been there twice for 3 minutes max each time. They rescinded that one too.

Gingaaarghpussy · 07/04/2018 19:35

Once, over 20 years ago.
We had, what everybody called the rubble carpark and it was free. The council then decided to do a 2 hour max job on it and I forgot.
I got back to my car, saw the ticket (£14 if paid within 14 days), got my checkbook, an envelope and a stamp out of my glovebox and posted it with 10 minutes. Only time in my life I've ever been that organised.
