There was a thread similar to this a while back that I can't find now but I promise I'm not a copy cat troll!

Last night i noticed that the loft hatch was open in the babies room. I definitely didn't do it, OH says he didn't do it. The cupboard under the TV where the electric and wifi box are was open yesterday, again, neither of us had opened it.
I called the police to report this last night and explained that I'm often alone with an 8 week old baby and that the house is really not secure (rental). Their next steps were to raise with their team manager and to contact me within 24 hours if they felt they needed to take it further, put it on record if not. Presumably this would be useful when I've been murdered in my sleep but whatever.
I've called the lettings agent who would get someone round to look at the locks that aren't locking.
I've heard nothing back from either. My life has no value clearly.

I've been blamed twice in the last fortnight for leaving a poo in the toilet by OH when I definitely, definitely haven't. Clothes have gone missing presumed lost somewhere and the wifi speed has dropped significantly over the last few weeks.

I'm concerned.

I have a CCTV style baby monitor that wasn't being used that I've set up in the living room to monitor anyone getting in which I thought was a pretty genius idea but forgot that you can talk the other way too. Tonight I'm pretty sure someone was talking through it. OH is working away but swears that it wasn't him. I need to be brave enough to get close enough to unplug it now.

There is access through the lofts from the other houses and only one key was given from the lettings agent so presumably another key is somewhere else out there. I can always hear footsteps from the houses either side of me which used to be reassuring when I was by myself. NOT ANY MORE!

Tomorrow I'm permanently closing both loft hatches, changing all locks and learning self defence. In the meantime help me get through the night. What can I do to make it as safe as I can? or channel Kevin from Home Alone And can I do anything on the wifi to see if someone else has signed up to mine?

I was a lot braver in the daylight...

I've got my baby asleep on me and I don't think she'll be much use if I'm confronted.

Honestly why would you still be in the house after all that?

Why would you not have got the police/friend/family member/massive fucking rugby player round to check it all out in the daylight and put a lick on the hatch?

Why would your DH piss off and leave you?

Why would you be so blazè about hearing a random person speaking on your baby monitor and how could it have possibly been your DH talking through the baby monitor unless he did it psychically if he was out at work?

Either you are fucking insane, the most easy going person in the world to still be there or there is more to it?

Juells · 05/04/2018 23:29

I thought it was illegal to have shared loft spaces (she said vaguely). Though now that I think about it, that little girl who was murdered by her stepfather a few years ago, he hid her body in the loft of another house in the terrace.

Cheby · 05/04/2018 23:30

Erm yes, go to your mums OP.
Why did your DH go away if he knew this was going on?

stayanotherday · 05/04/2018 23:33

Tbh this is difficult to believe. Why would somebody post on here and hang around if there was a potential intruder and there's a LO there? You'd hear them moving around. You'd get out straightaway and no way would a partner leave them alone.

Wingedharpy · 05/04/2018 23:33

Nice one Juells! Hmm

SmileyBird · 05/04/2018 23:34

Have you checked for other devices on your WiFi?

RunMummyRun68 · 05/04/2018 23:35

I think this thread will end up being continued!

NorthernLurker · 05/04/2018 23:39

Just wondering why an eight week old baby is in their own room. I mean it's not illegal to put them in their own room Grinbut most people have them still in with them at this point.

JustPutSomeGlitterOnIt · 05/04/2018 23:39

Is this a joke?

If it's not, I'd get my keys and purse and leave now. Leave the camera on and get letting agents to check the loft tomorrow.

PartyRingss · 05/04/2018 23:42

My dc has their own room as a small baby but only used it for day naps.

Brendaofbeechhouse · 05/04/2018 23:42

Julius, I think it may only apply to newer houses, i.e. building regs not being applied retrospectively. However it is a massive fire risk, because if one house catches fire and the fire spreads to the loft there is nothing to stop it spreading to the whole terrace.

PartyRingss · 05/04/2018 23:42

Had not has

FancyNewBeesly · 05/04/2018 23:44

Hope you’re okay OP. Definitely get out of there tonight if you can. Padlock for the hatch in the morning.

GlitteryPineapples · 05/04/2018 23:45

I remember the previous thread you're talking about. This situation absolutely terrifies me, I would definitely be getting out of there tonight!!

Everyone who's ever seen Shooting Fish knows shared lofts at least used to be a thing!

UpOver · 05/04/2018 23:49

I think its ridiculously unlikely it’s anything other than brand new baby fog. You have an 8 week old so forgetting to pull the chain etc is completely normal. Also, being able to hear other voices through baby monitors is totally normal too. Depending on the type.

I think you are worrying about nothing. However, I would get something done about the locks immediately.

MrsMotherHen · 05/04/2018 23:49

ooo dear doesn't sound good though. I would be out like a light.

tortelliniforever · 05/04/2018 23:51

The poo in the loo is what gave our intruder away after several weeks of blaming each other I hope you're ok op!

Foxysoxy10 · 05/04/2018 23:51

OP you seem to have gone quiet I hope the loft dweller hasn’t got to you.

It’s making me eye the loft hatch in my bedroom suspiciously.

Noqonterf · 05/04/2018 23:52

Reckon it's one of your neighbors. I am assuming you are in a terrace with no fire walls in the attic. I've had the same problems in the past with teenagers some doors down crawling through the attic space at night. I would get that hatch locked so it can't be opened from above.

RunMummyRun68 · 05/04/2018 23:56

totellini what happened to you?

JustPutSomeGlitterOnIt · 06/04/2018 00:01

Why did I read this before bed.

Great big bag of Nope.

Mightymucks · 06/04/2018 00:03

The poo is most likely to be eating too much fibre so they don’t flush properly tbh.

ScoopsMama · 06/04/2018 00:04

How would they get back up in the loft hatch without a ladder? Hmm
