There was a thread similar to this a while back that I can't find now but I promise I'm not a copy cat troll!

Last night i noticed that the loft hatch was open in the babies room. I definitely didn't do it, OH says he didn't do it. The cupboard under the TV where the electric and wifi box are was open yesterday, again, neither of us had opened it.
I called the police to report this last night and explained that I'm often alone with an 8 week old baby and that the house is really not secure (rental). Their next steps were to raise with their team manager and to contact me within 24 hours if they felt they needed to take it further, put it on record if not. Presumably this would be useful when I've been murdered in my sleep but whatever.
I've called the lettings agent who would get someone round to look at the locks that aren't locking.
I've heard nothing back from either. My life has no value clearly.

I've been blamed twice in the last fortnight for leaving a poo in the toilet by OH when I definitely, definitely haven't. Clothes have gone missing presumed lost somewhere and the wifi speed has dropped significantly over the last few weeks.

I'm concerned.

I have a CCTV style baby monitor that wasn't being used that I've set up in the living room to monitor anyone getting in which I thought was a pretty genius idea but forgot that you can talk the other way too. Tonight I'm pretty sure someone was talking through it. OH is working away but swears that it wasn't him. I need to be brave enough to get close enough to unplug it now.

There is access through the lofts from the other houses and only one key was given from the lettings agent so presumably another key is somewhere else out there. I can always hear footsteps from the houses either side of me which used to be reassuring when I was by myself. NOT ANY MORE!

Tomorrow I'm permanently closing both loft hatches, changing all locks and learning self defence. In the meantime help me get through the night. What can I do to make it as safe as I can? or channel Kevin from Home Alone And can I do anything on the wifi to see if someone else has signed up to mine?

I was a lot braver in the daylight...

I've got my baby asleep on me and I don't think she'll be much use if I'm confronted.

And why has your DH left you in the midst of all this and buggered off?

AlonsoTigerHeart · 05/04/2018 22:56
Shock I agree you should go to a hotel
MarmiteTermite · 05/04/2018 22:57

Hotel definitely!

Mxyzptlk · 05/04/2018 22:57

If you have no one who can come round to take you elsewhere, call police right away to say you believe someone's in the house or the loft.

Mxyzptlk · 05/04/2018 22:58

Definitely don't investigate anything on your own.

C0untDucku1a · 05/04/2018 22:58

Id be long gone! Change your wifi password. Lock the hatch.

To reassure you some griends of mine had noises on their terraced lofts. Both times, both houses turned out to be rats

mummyhaschangedhername · 05/04/2018 22:58

Argh, op that sounds scary. Can you see who has connected to your router? Can someone come stay over?

Thattwatoverthere · 05/04/2018 23:01

I thought I was being a wimp 😂. Quite glad to hear I'm not! Am seriously considering decamping to my mums in my pjs for the night but there's no bed for me there. The sofa would be preferable to the wifi killer though... will give her a call now. And move the PP machine off my bedside table where it was living for the night in my makeshift bedsit...

It's all a bit fucked up really isn't it? I mean, why poo? And why not nick the laptop instead of a coat??

I'll update from my mums. Camera going back on and wifi off. Good idea if I'm not here?

seasidelife · 05/04/2018 23:02

Intrigued to see if anyone is using the WiFi though to be honest I'd be packing an overnight bag right now if I was op

AuntMabel · 05/04/2018 23:03

That's one bit rat if it's doing human sized poos Hmm

Can you call a relative or neighbour, if not Police.

YogaQueenBee · 05/04/2018 23:03

Get to your mums but leave the camera running. Does it link to your phone? You might be able to reassure yourself all is ok

IntoTheFloodAgain · 05/04/2018 23:03

I can’t believe someone thinks this is wasting police time!

OP I hope you update us to say you have booked yourself a hotel.

If you do, leave the CCTV monitor so you can review it. (Save wasting police time by collecting your own evidence and all that)

TooLazyForDrama · 05/04/2018 23:04

Definitely a good idea to get out of there tonight. Tomorrow call the police again and tell them you need the PCSO to come out and take a look because you think you have an intruder in your loft.
Will the camera work without WiFi?

everafteragain · 05/04/2018 23:04

Sounds scary Confused
Just wanted to say that the house I used to live in the loft hatch would open on its own when it was windy.

steppemum · 05/04/2018 23:05

My guess is someone has come through you loft from one of the other houses to get your wi-fi password, and being a CF they have had a nosy round and used your loo etc.

Littlechocola · 05/04/2018 23:06

Ridiculous for still being there! Especially with a baby!

mehhh · 05/04/2018 23:06

Jeeeeezzzz you're brave ever being there!!

Mxyzptlk · 05/04/2018 23:07

Just contact your mum. Don't worry about anything but getting you and baby round to mum's.

MissesBloom · 05/04/2018 23:07

Holy shit I'd have run a mile... I am a giant wimp though.

Baby monitors are majorly scary when on night vision so I'd avoid staring at it l. Definitely call your mum and get over there. May be less scary tomorrow but for tonight you have a small child to be concerned for.

Where on earth is your dh while this is all going on?

mehhh · 05/04/2018 23:07

And if it was me in my house I'd definitely either stay with someone or call my mum and dad to come stay with me (I'm still a big baby)

TabbyMack · 05/04/2018 23:07

I don’t usually have much synpathy for MNers who are “scared” in their own homes at night...because the reasons are usually pathetic.

But in this case, you are not being a wimp or over-reacting. There is something odd going on and I think you should sleep on your mums sofa until it can be properly investigated.

Mxyzptlk · 05/04/2018 23:08

Me too, steppemum, and not nicked a laptop because they're just a CF not a burglar.

NoHunsHereHun · 05/04/2018 23:08

Get the fuck out And change your WiFi password!

NellMangel · 05/04/2018 23:09

No offence but are you sleep deprived?

It’s really unlikely that someone would go to all this trouble for a poo and some free wifi.

Sparklesdontshine · 05/04/2018 23:10

Hotel asap!
