Am I being petty or is this a bit cheeky?

Ok, I’m totally prepared to be told AIBU but this has bugged me!

I’ve never made much of an effort with the Easter bonnet thing, but my dd (who is 5) is really excited about it this year. So we spent Sunday afternoon creating a masterpiece! She was over the moon and excited about possibly winning a prize for it this year.

I was talking about Easter bonnets with one of the school mums yesterday and showed her a photo of my dd’s hat.

She’s just messaged me saying could I send her the picture as she wants to copy it for her DD’s bonnet as she wants exactly the same one...

Am I being really wanky by being a bit annoyed about this?! Part of me is just thinking, just send her the picture and stop being so petty. The other part of me thinks this is a bit unfair. DD will probably be a bit upset if someone copies it (it’s pretty unique) and what if the other girl wins?! Just seems a bit unfair on my DD.

Tell her no

QueenArseClangers · 27/03/2018 10:39

Just ignore her text.

HuskyMcClusky · 27/03/2018 10:40

What Queen said.

Weird thing to ask someone!

Bluntness100 · 27/03/2018 10:42

Just text back and say, ah you know how kids are, dd will be upset if her masterpiece is copied, she's so excited bless her add a smiley face and leave it there.

SkeletonSkins · 27/03/2018 10:43

I would say ‘hiya, out and about today so can’t get a picture of it but it’s something like this’ and then send a pic of a random one off the internet

blackteasplease · 27/03/2018 10:44

Year I'd just ignore. If she asks you later I'd say either that I didn't read the message or that you assumed it was a joke.

Trinity66 · 27/03/2018 10:44

Its for a competition and she said she wanted to copy it? um no? atleast she was silly enough to tell you that before you sent it though Grin

Birdsgottafly · 27/03/2018 10:47

Lessoned learned. Easter bonnet making is a ruthless game Grin.

Just keep blanking, making excuses, "its been taken to Gran's to show her and left there etc".

Merryoldgoat · 27/03/2018 10:47

Just tell her your DD worked really hard on it and wants it to be original and you’re sure she understands.

bastardkitty · 27/03/2018 10:48

Search Easter bonnet images on google, screenshot and send to her 'loads of ideas here'. It is cheeky.

Trinity66 · 27/03/2018 10:49

Just tell her your DD worked really hard on it and wants it to be original and you’re sure she understands.

That's probably the best thing to do actually because if you just ignore her text she might try to copy it from memory Hmm

Hillarious · 27/03/2018 10:49

But don't assume the prize is in the bag, whether or not your friend copies yours. If too much adult effort has gone into the hat, that might scupper your DD's chances.

Just saying. You know what judges can be like!

Avasarala · 27/03/2018 10:52

Agree with everyone else - just tell her you DD worked hard, is very proud and really looking forward to entering the competition so you don't want to ruin it for her by letting someone copy the design. Suggest she look online for inspiration and tell her good luck.

Don't engage any further. Just ignore or deflect if she keeps asking.

Starlighter · 27/03/2018 10:55

Ha ha, Birds! I never realised!! I’m normally all about the pound shop paper hats! I’ll be much more ruthless next time... Grin

Ok, good to know I’m not BU. So I’m going to ignore the message for now, but I might go with the “dd worked really hard on it, might be upset etc” if it comes up
at school pick up.

Yes, I might send her random pictures of some dodgy hats from the internet!!

This is why I dont show pictures of things before the day.... My dc would be gutted if someone copied their idea. This goes for: easter bonnets, easter egg decorating, junk model making, world book day, poster making, and every other comp school decides to drop on us etc etc

Ignore the text.... or say shes changed her mind and is doing a poo emoji themed hat now and you are busy collecting spring lamb and easter bunny poos to stick on it. CF teaching her child early they can just copy everyone elses efforts.

Mightymucks · 27/03/2018 10:57

Are they wearing them to school? If not I think it is rather a compliment. If they are wearing them at the same time just message her back and tell her you got it off Pinterest

Starlighter · 27/03/2018 10:59

Hilarious: yep, no she totally understands. She’ll be fine if she doesn’t win, she’s quite good with that sort of thing. But it would just be a real kick in the teeth if her friend won with the same design.

OP posts:
Starlighter · 27/03/2018 11:01

Ha ha to the poo emoji! Grin

Yes, Mighty, school competition. I wouldn’t even mind if it was just a school thing, but they wear them to school and it’s an actual competition with prizes.

soupforbrains · 27/03/2018 11:05

@LoopyLoo92 That image has me cracking up Grin could you imagine. competitive poo gathering. hahaha

MissEliza · 27/03/2018 11:06

It's not even about her friend winning. Won't it take the shine off it if someone else has almost exactly the same hat? It's like your friend wearing the same dress as you at a party.

Juells · 27/03/2018 11:12

What a flipping cheek!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gingergenius · 27/03/2018 11:12

Let us know if she wins op

KendalMintCakey · 27/03/2018 11:12

hahaha no way! Easter bonnets is war and yes - we won! We made sons into a real bunny with cotton wool.

KendalMintCakey · 27/03/2018 11:14

also find the winners are the same kids year in, year out.

KendalMintCakey · 27/03/2018 11:15
