Am I being petty or is this a bit cheeky?

Ok, I’m totally prepared to be told AIBU but this has bugged me!

I’ve never made much of an effort with the Easter bonnet thing, but my dd (who is 5) is really excited about it this year. So we spent Sunday afternoon creating a masterpiece! She was over the moon and excited about possibly winning a prize for it this year.

I was talking about Easter bonnets with one of the school mums yesterday and showed her a photo of my dd’s hat.

She’s just messaged me saying could I send her the picture as she wants to copy it for her DD’s bonnet as she wants exactly the same one...

Am I being really wanky by being a bit annoyed about this?! Part of me is just thinking, just send her the picture and stop being so petty. The other part of me thinks this is a bit unfair. DD will probably be a bit upset if someone copies it (it’s pretty unique) and what if the other girl wins?! Just seems a bit unfair on my DD.

QueenArseClangers that was the funniest thread, hilarious, is it still around somewhere do you know.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 27/03/2018 12:12

The nerve of some people! Find your own design!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 27/03/2018 12:22

Easter bonnet making is a ruthless game Grin
It is indeed, I used to make a pretty anodyne bonnet with fluffy yellow feathers, eggs and flowers every year for DDs but one year DDs REALLY wanted a Spring Lamb and an Easter Bunny. The Lamb turned out surprisingly well with a lovely fleece and cute ears. The bunny however, not so much. No matter how I tried I could not get the whiskers (thick brown pipe cleaners) and teeth right. Still, nobody else turned up wearing an Easter Freddie Mercury. Gave the teachers a laugh.

There you go Thick!

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 27/03/2018 12:39

That was a funny thread Queen Picture on the last page.

Maybe you can post a pic of your creation OP? After the competition obvs..
We can critique it (Mumsnet style) Grin

QueenArseClangers · 27/03/2018 12:39

Bloody hell, that thread is from 8 years ago! Time flies and all that.

ittakes2 · 27/03/2018 12:45

I agree it was weird - I would just ignore and if she asks say sorry you have been busy and forgot...and keep forgetting.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 27/03/2018 12:45

Lol at "Easter Freddie Mercury" !

My mum made me an Easter bonnet at primary school that was a round plastic tupperware bowl turned upside down with plastic daffodils tied to it with ribbon. I had to stand at the front of assembly with the other contestants.
No one voted for me and the bowl kept sliding off my head. So humiliating.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/03/2018 12:56

Thank you Queen so so funny, I’m going to savour it later 😀

SchoolMoney · 27/03/2018 13:00

'I thought it was a competition wink Anyway that was just the practice/back up hat. The real one has chasing lights, but don't let on I told you'.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 27/03/2018 13:05

This mum must have a rough idea what your dd's hat looks like. Why doesn't she put Easter bonnet into Google Images like every other parent. She'll be given approximately 40 000 images to choose from.

At least copy a bonnet of someone you don't know!

MammaTJ · 27/03/2018 13:06

Send her this.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 27/03/2018 13:17

Or this? A nice simple design

Am I being petty or is this a bit cheeky?

Just catching up! Love these replies! Grin

That fox is terrifying!!

Ok, I have an update! I’ve just got home from the school run. She approached me on the playground and eventually asked if I minded. (She’s either thought about it and realised it was a bit cheeky, someone has told her it’s cheeky or she’s on Mumsnet!!) Blush Anyway, it allowed me to say, “well no (I’m such a wimp!) but DD specifically wanted this design and spent a long time making it, soooo...” she immediately understood and said they’ll do something else...

So, drama over! Phew! Now let’s see what happens on Thurs!

Thank U all so much for the replies and for not flaming me! Smile

Update please OP! Who won? What did the other girl's hat look like? Grin

DontPanic999999 · 29/03/2018 19:47

Yes update please, also would love to see pic of your dds hat :)

pimlicolife · 29/03/2018 19:56

Send her a picture of a different bonnet.

Bunchofdaffodils · 29/03/2018 20:07

Ahh, mine are too old for Easter bonnets. Would love to see some real ones, is there a thread for that?

rach01pink · 29/03/2018 20:24

Id say 'out at dinner at the minute will send you one tomorrow' and then not bother. Surely she won't be rude enough to chase

MrsGrindah · 29/03/2018 20:30

Anyone else desperate to know whether OPs DD won?!

KendalMintCakey · 05/04/2018 20:00

sadly yes!

LeighaJ · 05/04/2018 20:13
