Apparently I shouldn't have a cat because i'm disabled and need to use the PDSA

I'm a bit upset, i'm autistic and moved out of parents home a few years ago and decided to get a cat for company as I'm unable to work as i'm autistic. The cat was a stray and a family member had to get rid of him as his other cat wasn't getting on with him, so I took him in and he's such a lovely cat.

I use the PDSA for his treatment as i'm on a low income, and my "friend" said that I shouldn't have a cat because I rely on a charity for his treatment.

My lovely cat means the world to me, but because of the misfortune of me being autistic and unable to work, I should be denied the love and company of a pet? He brings me so much joy. I always donate for his treatment.

Ignore your friend. Of course you should have a cat.

This is what the PDSA is for and they clearly are happy for you to use their services

I'm sure the cat will bring you lots of joy and will have a lovely life with you.

if you love and care for the cat, and the PDSA are happy to provide subsidised treatment then I fail to see what it has to do with your friend.

Ignore him/her.

With the PDSA, you're in a slightly better position than the many, many people who can't afford/don't bother with insurance!

You so called friend is entitled to their opinions but you just ignore them and carry on giving a loving home to your little cat,well done you for offering an animal a secure and loving home.

I don't see why the disability part is relevant as all people on benefits can use the pdsa unless you think that they shouldn't be able to? Why only people with disabilities?

You and your cat are happy I t’s a GOOD thing.

The PDSA is there for a reason. I donate to them so that people who otherwise can’t afford to give a pet a home, can, for both their benefit.

Your friend said something twattish, we all do from time to time, just watch out it’s not something that happens often. It was a pretty shitty comment and if that’s their general attitude you might be better off reconsidering this friendship.

Point out how much more expensive it would be for the local authority to provide a carer/companion or to access services.

Take no notice of what this "friend" said. They're being cruel to you, as I'm sure they know how much your cat means to you.

They'd rather you sent the cat to the shelter, and possibly spend months waiting for a new home, and have you missing out on the companionship and love your cat brings. That's not the sign of a caring person, so just ignore them. They're not worth listening to and worrying about what they've said.

So, you just carry on loving your cat. And maybe bin this "friend".

Ignore the 'friend' - I can see why you like cats with friends like that.

Is there any volunteering you could do at the PDSA - not that you have to but to - but if you want to help out at all?

If your friend doesn't approve of people using PDSA then she doesn't have to donate to them, simples :)

Keep enjoying having your cat friend, it sounds like you two are already looking after each other well. And animals are better than people anyway ;)

Tell your “friend “ to mind her own business, your cat is loved and you are a responsible owner, enjoy your cat! Ignore the her stupid comment, off course you can have a feline friend
