Apparently I shouldn't have a cat because i'm disabled and need to use the PDSA

I'm a bit upset, i'm autistic and moved out of parents home a few years ago and decided to get a cat for company as I'm unable to work as i'm autistic. The cat was a stray and a family member had to get rid of him as his other cat wasn't getting on with him, so I took him in and he's such a lovely cat.

I use the PDSA for his treatment as i'm on a low income, and my "friend" said that I shouldn't have a cat because I rely on a charity for his treatment.

My lovely cat means the world to me, but because of the misfortune of me being autistic and unable to work, I should be denied the love and company of a pet? He brings me so much joy. I always donate for his treatment.

Yabu but only because you haven't posted a picture of your lovely cat Grin
Apart from that your friend said something stupid and as a pp said I think I too prefer cats to people.

GabsAlot · 22/03/2018 12:41

cats are known to reduce stress and anxiety

you enjoy your cat maybe get rid of the friend

PersianCatLady · 22/03/2018 12:46

What a bitch your "friend" is and she is also stupid as well.

To be honest, considering that she knows all about you, if she can say that to you then she isn't a friend.

Dump her.

Oliversmumsarmy · 22/03/2018 12:51

So everyone who uses the PDSA shouldn't have a pet.

What does she think the PDSA is for.

fleshmarketclose · 22/03/2018 12:52

Keep the cat but get rid of the so called friend.
You giving a home to a cat is doing a good thing for both of you. If you didn't give the cat a home it would cost far more to keep it in a rescue permanently. The PDSA exists to support people on low incomes to look after their pets, you aren't doing anything wrong.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/03/2018 12:56

Ignore your 'friend', you're doing nothing wrong - apart from not posting a picture of course!

Pop over to the Litter Tray where you'll find lots of like minded cat lovers.

TheWernethWife · 22/03/2018 13:00

What a bitch, dump the friend and treasure the lovely cat.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 22/03/2018 13:01

You've saved an animal charity loads and made a cat so happy by giving him a home. She is being VV U and mean. Plenty of people have changes in circumstances or short term financial short falls. Why should they have to give up a pet on top? PDSA are great. DF donates to them as he remembers them treating his childhood dogs.

TempusFugitive · 22/03/2018 13:09

I agree that the ''genuine questions'' about why the OP can't work are extremely unpleasant.

applesisapple5 · 22/03/2018 13:56

You're right to call this person a "friend" in inverted commas. Trust your instincts on this for sure, and enjoy every day with your cat!

Highpeak · 22/03/2018 14:19

Send your "friend" off to read up on the well documented psychological benefits of pet ownership.
Those who donate to the PDSA do so with the knowledge that this is what the money is for

Motoko · 22/03/2018 15:10

Why can't you work because you're autistic?

What fucking business is that of yours? It has nothing to do with the thread.

WiddlinDiddling · 22/03/2018 15:34

Keep cat, rehome friend.

If you had a whole menagerie that you could not afford, were buying expensive, pedigree animals that you can't afford.... then it might be a different story, that would be unreasonable.

One pre-owned, second hand cat, perfectly fine.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/03/2018 15:40

You gave the cat a home. People who donate do it to help people and animals. All good.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2018 15:52

Wow what an idiot she is. The Pdsa is a charity. To use. For people, who cannot afford to look after their pets.

Mikklehaha · 22/03/2018 15:55

Your friend is being very arrogant. I’m assuming said friend doesn’t have your complex issues and therefore doesn’t have a clue what that cat means to you.
She needs to research how much pet ownership for many people saves money for our mental health services.
Enjoy your cat; the cat is lucky to have such a loving home after being a stray and you are far better off with such a lovely companion than without one. Give him a cuddle from me 😉

Clemfantango · 22/03/2018 15:59

Yabu not to post a picture of your cat! Come on! We need to see your cat!

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 22/03/2018 16:02

Goes to donate to PDSA

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 22/03/2018 16:11

You gave a home to a cat, that's exactly what PDSA is for!

I don't know why someone is talking about benefits, completely irrelevant to the thread. The cat has a good home, and is being looked after, nothing to do with anyone.

Tobythecat · 22/03/2018 16:25

Thank you all for your lovely messages.

"Friend" isn't much of a friend anymore, I have been distancing myself from her as I don't feel she's a good person.

The cat is lying in front of the fire as he does every day, and is about to have his dinner Grin

Apparently I shouldn't have a cat because i'm disabled and need to use the PDSA

What a handsome chap, though he looks slightly pissed off. Did he overhear your twat ex friend? 😆

Clemfantango · 22/03/2018 16:31

He is glorious! Very much in charge of your household by the look of him!

TatianaLarina · 22/03/2018 16:31

What a sweetie 🐱

MinorRSole · 22/03/2018 16:31

He's gorgeous! Black and whites can be notoriously hard to rehome as well (although I personally have a soft spot for them). I'm very glad we have charities like the pdsa so cats like him can have a loving home with someone who clearly looks after him.
