To hate it when people shout/scream/wail during applause?

I'm not sure if this is me being unjust and picky or is it something that annoys others too.

Why on earth do people feel the need to scream and shout "woooooo" "eyyyy" as loud as they can during an applause. It's so vulgar.

I was at a concert the other night at the RAH and the girl nearby screamed at every ovation; leaving my ears sore.

I've also noticed that there is a common theme amongst those who do so. This must be considered uncouth?

Yea that's most definitely annoying especially at concerts but everyone has there things, everyone is different

I agree with you ; it's awful. The sort of behaviour that Jeremy Kyle audiences are presumably encouraged to exhibit. Performance applause perhaps? Yuck.

To be honest I’ve always thought of the audiences at the ROH to be akin to those at the Carnegie, ie frightfully common. I would never associate with ROH people as I find them awfully vulgar. Our venue of taste is Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The audience behave accordingly and acoustics are to die for.

Lol I love it at the ROH. Its passion innit? Opera is for common people after all!

YABU I think. It creates an atmosphere that the performer appreciates. What about the people who shout bravo? Surely they’re not “common”.

I also don't like people going "Woooo!" on fireworks night though.

I whoop when a performance has been wonderful and I am worried the performers will not understand how wonderful they were from the limp-wristed, lacklustre applause being offered around me. The applause always ends too soon as well, because people seem to be in such a tearing hurry to leave and beat the crowds out. If the performers hear my enthusiasm and know how much they moved me, I don't mind if you think I'm a bit common

Remind me at the next preformance I go to to shout Bravo Chaps in a really high brow voice.

If you ever go to see a TV show filmed then this is really encouraged by the production staff. It's very wearing to have to do and when you then watch the same show afterwards you realise it's not actually that funny or entertaining

Years ago i took Dd to see busted (they were awful, she was very young, it was her birthday, excuses over ) and there was a young girl next to us who properly screamed really loudly all the way through. It was so distracting and painful to the ears. Wooo’s i can cope with as they are usually at a tolerable decibel level. This was not.

@veraaloe I agree. It's so rude and very common, even common but that's because they allowed plebs to soil the culture of the better-born and mannered.
I can't even applaud anymore because I have to hold my smelling salts in my hand. I find applauding with my fingertips much more dignified anyway.

I really hate people using the word common when they aren't Royalty, the phrase "jumped up" comes to mind

Have a glass of wine & relax, this really is a ridiculous thing to get annoyed at - people getting excited at a performance.

Art & performances are supposed to invoke emotions & reactions within people, I say this & know this as I am an artist.

I only do it during sex when nobody else can hear except dh and he likes it.

You could be at any social occasion requiring nice applause - child blowing out candles on its birthday cake, bride and groom kissing each other at the altar - and my XH would whoop and holler all over it like some howler monkey on glue.

....what?? As PP says, the arts are there to entertain and evoke emotion. If people want to cheer, let them cheer!
