To hate it when people shout/scream/wail during applause?

I'm not sure if this is me being unjust and picky or is it something that annoys others too.

Why on earth do people feel the need to scream and shout "woooooo" "eyyyy" as loud as they can during an applause. It's so vulgar.

I was at a concert the other night at the RAH and the girl nearby screamed at every ovation; leaving my ears sore.

I've also noticed that there is a common theme amongst those who do so. This must be considered uncouth?

That happens!? 😂

On airlines catering for a certain demographic. Yes.

Whizbang · 21/03/2018 09:18

I suggest you stay at home so that the whooping plebs don’t upset your delicate sensibilities.

ShatnersWig · 21/03/2018 09:18

thanksjane Yes. I've known that many times with classical performance and that's not, as you say, something new. That was happening regularly in the 1950s. But AT THE END. Not after every movement in the programme.

TheOriginalEmu · 21/03/2018 09:43

just when i thought MN couldn't get any more snooty...

TheOriginalEmu · 21/03/2018 09:44

go and look at other cultures, they express sadness, happiness, elation very very vocally a lot of the time. only in uptight britain would expressing feelings be 'vulgar'.

UgliCat · 21/03/2018 09:51

Well I used to do it just because my hands are too damaged to clap properly but now I'll get an extra thrill to know it's actively winding up a particular kind of person.

I tried this but they kept cropping up on TV.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 21/03/2018 09:54

Whooping and screaming their appreciation in the RAH, you say?
Next there will be screaming and sobbing in art galleries and the Sistine Chapel.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/03/2018 09:55

Could be worse.
There was a thread recently where the OP's partner took objection to her "screaming at the Michaelangelo" at the Sistene Chapel

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 21/03/2018 09:56

Snap!

velouria · 21/03/2018 09:58

I remember being at a festival gig yonks ago and the feeble idiot in front of me kept whining that I was pushing them. Yep it's me pushing, not the 60,000 people behind me, div.

I don't go to a gig to sit and appreciatively listen, with my arms crossed. I go to dance and sing and have fun. Try it, you might like it. Obviously a fully seated thing will be different, surely a whoop or holler would be appreciated by the artists.

Trinity66 · 21/03/2018 10:02

ffs it's a concert get over yourself

When I went we were extensively lectured on approach to the Sistine chapel that we should be silent. 99% ignored this in spite of being regularly "shushed" by the attendants. It's everywhere - people just feel the need to be as noisy as possible all the time.

blueskyinmarch · 21/03/2018 10:08

I love a good whoop and holler at the end of a gig or show.

I thought i was middle class now but obviously i am belying my roots and i am a common pleb. Don't really care.

I have paid for my tickets, i will respond as I please.

I'd rather be common and have a bit of fun if that's the case Grin

blueskyinmarch · 21/03/2018 10:32

Me too Trinity.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 21/03/2018 10:35

@AjasLipstick Well I think you're rude for offering a limp round of applause. Guess we're even!

Skarossinkplunger · 21/03/2018 12:56

Just in case this thread makes the Daily
Fail or some such media my last comment was made with all the sarcasm the op
deserves!

ChameleonsInCarsGettingCoffee · 21/03/2018 12:57

I think this may be the most uptight OP I've ever read. 😂

Snowmagedon · 21/03/2018 12:59

Jeremy Kyle Grin as a performer I enjoyed it, especially from the family.

pmsl MirriVan.

This thread is cheering me up.

Chesntoots · 21/03/2018 13:08

My auntie used to get incredibly annoyed with people who clapped between movements.

She would have been disgusted by whooping!

purplelass · 21/03/2018 13:09

The common folk should learn to show their appreciation for musical concerts and such by muted applause followed up by a nicely phrased letter on pretty notepaper... noisy appreciation is just not nice
