To think we shouldn't really have to pay for this?

Sil is getting married, I'm a bridesmaid, OH is a groomsman, I've never been 'in' a wedding before so this is completely new to me, is it usual to have to pay for your own alterations on the dress (dress was paid for by bride but was very inexpensive, alterations are costing me £40) and suit hire (£100) clothing that has specifically been chosen by the bride for you to wear? Genuine ask. Honestly don't know if I'm BU for being a tad fucked off?

Does she know its costing that much?

I paid for my BM dresses, a relative altered them but I wouldn't have expected them to pay. I had the dresses back and sold them on. They were obviously BM dresses and they wouldn't have worn them again.

I think it's rude to expect BMs to buy their dresses or pay for alterations (apart from the one who insisted on one that was too small). Weddings are costing guests far too much these days.

Thanks everyone, wasn't sure if I was woefully behind the door about such matters! but it seems I am right to be a tad miffed.

My adult dds were bridesmaid 6 weeks apart. 1st wedding the bride paid for the dresses, 2nd wedding the 2nd bride expected them to.And they couldnt choose....not happy but did it as the "wedding gift"

I’m paying for my bridesmaids dresses/outfits that they’re choosing. I wouldn’t dream of dictating what someone wears and make them pay for it Shock

Thanks everyone :) think I'm just... Not gonna pay!
