To think that Anne Hegerty was only stating the truth?

On TWS today AH was discussing the gender pay gap. She didn't think that there was an old boys' network nowadays. Paris Lees disagreed.
Anne said 'Well you would know. You used to be a boy.' My jaw dropped.

Of course she was telling the truth. But women aren't allowed to do that when it comes to this issue.

blackteasplease · 15/03/2018 10:35

Well PL wouldn't really know any more or less than any other individual person. Even if there was a man who identified as a man in the conversation he wouldn't necessarily know.

That said it seems a very gratuitous opportunity to mention the fact PL had been born male. Nothing really to do with the discussion!

Quite pleased to see a trans woman taking this side of the argument though unless I've misread what you are saying a!

sexnotgender · 15/03/2018 10:36

Telling the truth isn’t allowed these days.

Why the hell is Paris Lees on everything?

derxa · 15/03/2018 10:39

I was just gobsmacked AH said such a blatant truth. I neither agreed nor disagreed with the points of view. I have nothing against PL.

~googles who both these people are~

ThoraCentisis · 15/03/2018 10:41

Of course a man would know more about the old boys network than a woman would. That is literally the point of the old boys network, women are excluded.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/03/2018 10:42

You could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. I could actually feel the tension.

derxa · 15/03/2018 10:45

Yes Awwlook it was the shock. It was an Emperor's New Clothes moment.

OP posts:
Tringley · 15/03/2018 10:45

So are most men and in fact 'the right sort' of woman is more likely to be admitted than the wrong sort of man.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/03/2018 10:53

To be honest, I was expecting AH to have been escorted off the show during the ad break.

Milliepede · 15/03/2018 10:56

I'd love PL to try to debate with Anne.

carryondoctor · 15/03/2018 10:56

"You ARE a boy" would have been much worse/more offensive to Paris Lees.

It is the truth that Paris was born male, no?

derxa · 15/03/2018 10:56

Yes the atmosphere is definitely frosty Grin

busyboysmum · 15/03/2018 11:01

I understand Anne has aspergers so she always tells the truth no matter how awkward that might make certain situations. So I don't think she was even trying to be rude. She just has no filter.

CadyHeron · 15/03/2018 11:03

Damn, I usually watch the Wright Stuff, but missing this morning's!
Never heard of Paris Lee. Love Anne Hegarty.
If Paris did indeed used to be a boy, she's only speaking the sodding TRUTH - in context if it's about gender pay gap,as she will have experience of pay as a male then!

TerfyMcTerface · 15/03/2018 11:06

Stating the truth is "literal violence" these days. Our political leaders are willing to stand in front of a camera and say that the penis can be a female organ. Something which none of them actually believe.

You are only allowed to repeat mantras now.

TheJoyOfSox · 15/03/2018 11:08

Why?

Why did your jaw drop?

PL did used to be a boy, he also was a junkie and a prison inmate, so why be shocked when people remember the truth.

cloudtree · 15/03/2018 11:08

Is Paris Lees post op?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/03/2018 11:10

Well if she has aspergers that puts a completely different spin on things. Surely she can't be held liable if she has a disability

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 15/03/2018 11:10

Why did your jaw drop

That anyone actual dared to say it, in public. Most wouldn't, you'd get destroyed for it. I'd bet there are death threats on twitter already!

ViolaViolo · 15/03/2018 11:10

While it's true, I just don't think it's relevant to the point being made. These networks exclude plenty of men as well as women - that's why it's old boys club, not all boys. Admittedly I haven't seen the clip though, so I may have missed some context!

sidewayswithatescotrolley · 15/03/2018 11:10

Of course its relevant!

derxa · 15/03/2018 11:13

Why did your jaw drop? Because no one ever states these plain facts

OP posts:
ComtesseDeSpair · 15/03/2018 11:15

I find this whole situation baffling to be honest. I understand (though disagree with) the belief that many trans people have that they have always been a man or a woman inside and have just rectified their bodies to fit with that: but surely even people who feel that way accept that at one point they presented outwardly as a particular sex and therefore experienced and were experienced by society as that sex? That's just a fact. Even if you accept and agree with the idea of being able to transition, you can't deny that the physical body presented one way or the other originally?
