To book a Tesco shop for later today?

I'm reading all this stuff about CFs expecting people to take them out food shopping. It's horrible here, but there are online grocery slots open for later - which is weird in itself because there never usually are. Maybe it's because a lot of people already stocked up IDK?

But then surely if Tesco weren't prepared to send deliveries out, they wouldn't have the slots open? Am I overthinking this, or am I in CF territory? (Not to dripfeed, but there is a different big supermarket within easy walking distance but I don't want to leave the house.) Tell me quickly before the slots go Grin

*Not to dripfeed line makes no sense because I didn't, ignore!

Where are you? Tesco cancelled my delivery this morning, I’m in the north east

BrendasUmbrella · 01/03/2018 09:03

On the south coast, but it's snowing pretty hard.

Sod it I'm booking it, if the conditions aren't good they'll just cancel.

Ours have no slots today and no slots tomorrow! I wonder if they've cancelled all tomorrow's slots beyond those already booked? Never never never seen the next day booked up this early before!

IndianJasmine · 01/03/2018 09:07

I am in the south west. Tesco had slots open for last night and delivered well on time. I was half expecting to be cancelled as roads were icy and it was 8-9pm.

Book and see if it turns up. They will cancel if they can't come out.

I did tip the guy - I don't usually. (Am I a cf for not tipping other than Christmas?)

BrendasUmbrella · 01/03/2018 09:12

I hope not tipping doesn't make you a CF, I never do... But I think I will today!

Presumably it relies on the delivery drivers being able to get into work in the first place.

AppleKatie · 01/03/2018 09:16

You are not responsible for their H&S policy. Book it and if it turns up that’s great for you. I wouldn’t be overly surprised if it didn’t turn up but I wouldn’t feel guilty for bringing the driver out either..

fleshmarketclose · 01/03/2018 09:20

I have a delivery due later, email says dispatched but I will be very surprised if it gets here tbh. Not too worried there is nothing on the order that is vital so I will manage without if it doesn't arrive.

bittern79 · 01/03/2018 09:21

Go ahead and book it. They will cancel if they can't get to you. DH did a real shop last night and said that people were stocking up as if for a siege...

RedRobin87 · 01/03/2018 09:23

The Tesco's around here are not doing any deliveries at all today. They took down all the slots for today yesterday morning, and any that are booked for today are cancelled.

It's too dangerous on the roads for them to deliver and most of the staff can't get in anyway

Winterfellismyhome · 01/03/2018 09:23

I have a sainsburys delivery booked for 4.30. Not counting on it turning up. In greater london

BangBangPurple · 01/03/2018 09:24

Worth a shot.

Mine was cancelled Tuesday evening, rebooked for 7am this morning and turned up no problems at all. Even though it's worse out there now than it was Tuesday evening!

JaneEyre70 · 01/03/2018 09:35

My SIL delivers for Asda, and it's stopped me from booking slots in bad weather. He actually had complaints last time it snowed when peoples roads and driveways were completely inaccessible. It's ok for them to not want to leave the house but OK for him to break his neck. Spare a thought for that poor driver who may well risk their life getting to you..... are you that desperate for food for 2 days??

Rhayader · 01/03/2018 09:35

Recently switched from Tesco to Ocado (long story) and they delivered on time last night in London. No subs or missing items.

ChocolateButton15 · 01/03/2018 10:27

My Tesco delivery came today, South East.....he was actually early and I was in the shower and had to run down in my towel Blush I wasn't expecting it to come! They said it's up to the driver if they want to go out in it or not.

Sanderz · 01/03/2018 10:31

Mine was cancelled this morning in Norfolk. I'm not surprised.

fleshmarketclose · 01/03/2018 14:52

My delivery from Iceland arrived on time and with all items. I was amazed tbh because the buses aren't doing the journey between the store and our village due to the weather and that is a main road but the van made it to the end of the cul de sac which is up a hill that is never cleared. The two blokes carried my shopping onto the street as they would never have got on or off here. Don't generally give tips apart from at Christmas but they more than deserved the one I gave them today.

GooodMythicalMorning · 01/03/2018 14:56

Just had a very cold looking DHL driver turn up with a package for DH. Really wasn't expecting anyone out in this!

animaniac · 01/03/2018 14:58

I did my online shop with Tescos earlier today there were no slots being offered for tomorrow or Saturday (North West between Manchester and Huddersfield). Just booked for Sunday and went to get bread and milk from the corner shop. Will just make do with freezer snd cupboard food for a couple of days (we usually get our weekly shop on Fridays so running very low on fruit and veg now!)

Turquoisetamborine · 01/03/2018 15:01

Is it really that bad in London and the SE? I wouldn’t dream of ordering online shopping at the moment as wouldn’t want people to risk their lives as four people have been killed on the roads locally but it really doesn’t look bad down there to me.

SueDunome · 01/03/2018 15:02

I had a delivery this morning, they called and delivered an hour earlier.

FakeMews · 01/03/2018 15:13

Mine was cancelled this morning. I went onto re- book and there were no slots until Monday. Booked Ocado instead but even their earliest slot was Saturday. We are in the sticks though.
Poor woman from Tesco seemed to expect me to be cross, she launched into a tale of woe about vans being stuck all over the place. I was very nice and understanding and could feel her relief at not having another angry customer.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/03/2018 15:18

I looked yesterday and no supermarkets had slots for today or tomorrow. They all have big warnings on the top saying deliveries were likely to be cancelled or unavailable.

We would have been ok but DH couldn’t get to work today so we went to Lidl before he started his work from homeless.
