To book a Tesco shop for later today?

I'm reading all this stuff about CFs expecting people to take them out food shopping. It's horrible here, but there are online grocery slots open for later - which is weird in itself because there never usually are. Maybe it's because a lot of people already stocked up IDK?

But then surely if Tesco weren't prepared to send deliveries out, they wouldn't have the slots open? Am I overthinking this, or am I in CF territory? (Not to dripfeed, but there is a different big supermarket within easy walking distance but I don't want to leave the house.) Tell me quickly before the slots go Grin

We're snowed in, very rural and can't move cars off our lane. My NDN just complained that our refuse hasn't been collected nor have we had post! I think it very much depends what the roads are like where you are, it would terribly silly for me to order a food delivery this week

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 15:33

It does make me laugh when people can't get out of their own houses/drives/roads and yet they expect that all supermarket staff, refuse collectors and post office staff etc should be magically able to get to work somehow. Grin
Maybe they think they sleep at their place of work or something. Confused

I'm southeast and the next available slots for any supermarket is Saturday now. So I've booked for Saturday an extra big shop with enough to last us for a fortnight. I don't want to go out unless I have to for the next few days.

Martyngibson · 01/03/2018 15:43

We had a Tesco order booked for yesterday. It didn't turn up. Didn't get a call or email cancelling it. Tried to call when it was an hour late and couldn't get through on the phone. No communication. Nothing.

ginghamstarfish · 01/03/2018 15:47

Scottish Borders here, had Tesco booked for yesterday 2-3pm, was amazed I didn't get notice of cancellation so we went to clear the drive and path at 1.30. Got cancellation text at 1.45 ... understand why it was cancelled but annoyed they couldn't notify a bit sooner!

ThePinkOcelot · 01/03/2018 15:53

No deliveries here until Sunday. I’ve put my order in, I normally get a delivery every Sunday anyway. There were on 4 time slots to choose from though.

SciFiLover · 01/03/2018 15:57

Click and collect!
Taxi it.

TeaAndBisquits · 01/03/2018 16:00

Our tescos have suspended all bookings for deliveries until the weekend now.

I've dragged the kids out to get the basics (including cake and marshmallows for hot chocolate) for the next few days.

It's bloody horrible out there!

onlyonaTuesday · 01/03/2018 16:07

I ordered mine earlier in the week to be delivered at 7 pm today.
Tesco have not said it's not coming but I'm really not expecting it.
Will just use up freezer bits and see what happens

Hillingdon · 01/03/2018 16:09

I wouldn't book anything. If I cant get out why do I think someone can get in.

Also 'some' people are so entitled and will get quite snotty when deliveries are cancelled etc. We lost water last year and people were on face book screaming that their children were crying out for water....

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 01/03/2018 16:16

I think you would be a total knobber to even attempt this. Keep unnecessary traffic off the roads, just go to the shop.

Bellamuerte · 01/03/2018 16:26

I tried to book a delivery because I'm housebound as still recovering from major surgery after complications while giving birth 3 weeks ago. No slots available at any supermarkets until Monday... my elderly mum has been fetching my groceries but she's housebound due to snow. No idea how either of us is going to get any food! Sad

LimonViola · 01/03/2018 16:29

SciFiLover You know that taxis don't have any special way of driving than your regular driver right? Grin sorry just makes me laugh when people are saying driving is dangerous but then suggesting getting a cab where you have even less control over the car!

LimonViola · 01/03/2018 16:30

Oh no Bellamuerte, don't you have any food in the cupboards or freezer at all?

SciFiLover · 01/03/2018 16:39

Limonviola - yes but taxi drivers are professional drivers, they're more likely to control the vehicle.
I speak as a professional driver.

LimonViola · 01/03/2018 16:42

I think that's far too broad a suggestion.

Plenty of people have been driver longer then some taxi drivers just as some taxi drivers have been driving longer than regular drivers!

Many people in other jobs that aren't taxi drivers drive immense hours for their work.

And I say this as a former professional driver. I consider myself a good driver (can never get too cocky) but it's ridiculous to suggest that having driven for a living for a period of time means you're a more capable driver than others Confused

If anything I've found cabbies a bit less safe as they're more likely to get complacent, overtired from driving, drive faster to get more fares in.

Aridane · 01/03/2018 16:43

I wouldn’t dream of ordering online shopping at the moment as wouldn’t want people to risk their lives as four people have been killed on the roads locally but it really doesn’t look bad down there to me.

I would assume that supermarkets can make their own H&S assessments

Ditzyitzy · 01/03/2018 16:46

I’m on the South Coast, according to my mum Morrison’s and Asda are out of milk!

AnySleepWillDo · 01/03/2018 16:51

Dh delivers for Tesco he's just leaving for his shift now. Hope he's home early, don't really want him out in it.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 01/03/2018 16:55

Our Tesco delivery was cancelled this morning. Fine with me. Brits can’t cope with snow for 2 days but expects to leave single market and customs union and be absolutely fine Grin

QuestionableMouse · 01/03/2018 16:59

I've booked a delivery for Sunday. I can't get the car out, and while the nearest supermarket is only half a mile away, I have a bad hip and I'm scared stiff of falling over on the way there.

Gorja · 01/03/2018 17:01

DH is starting his shift for Tesco delivery at 7pm. Not been told not to go in so looks like he will be delivering in and around Leicester.

Rosiie · 01/03/2018 17:43

I have Morrison's booked for tomorrow morning, hope it doesn't get cancelled. Why the fuck would that make me a CF? Like OP said, they wouldn't have the slots open if they couldn't deliver.

Sparklingbrook · 01/03/2018 17:45

Of course they would have the slots open. They haven't got a crystal ball, the slots are open now but they don't know what the situation re snow/ staff etc will be in the morning in order to get the deliveries out. Confused
