To book a Tesco shop for later today?

I'm reading all this stuff about CFs expecting people to take them out food shopping. It's horrible here, but there are online grocery slots open for later - which is weird in itself because there never usually are. Maybe it's because a lot of people already stocked up IDK?

But then surely if Tesco weren't prepared to send deliveries out, they wouldn't have the slots open? Am I overthinking this, or am I in CF territory? (Not to dripfeed, but there is a different big supermarket within easy walking distance but I don't want to leave the house.) Tell me quickly before the slots go Grin

I've booked a delivery for Sunday. I can't get the car out, and while the nearest supermarket is only half a mile away, I have a bad hip and I'm scared stiff of falling over on the way there.

Why you need to explain yourself is just beyond me Confused. If the slots are open, book it. If they cancel, then they cancel. What's the problem?

Purringkittenmama · 01/03/2018 17:55

Re the idea of h & s policy... Do supermarkets actually care? As long as they adhere to the bare minimum? Maybe they do, but my guess is that profits come first. And wasn't a particular supermarket in the news a year or two ago as its delivery drivers (hgv drivers delivering to the stores) had to wait around for ages with no offer of drinks etc.
Why would you add to demand for a (low paid) worker to risk their health coming out in this?

Just making conversation more than anything...

SilverySurfer · 01/03/2018 18:22

I'm in hospital and hopefully going home in a day or two so have booked a slot with fingers crossed for Saturday. I've just gone back online to change to a later time in case I don't get home in the morning and all slots now taken. I've doubled up on a lot of stuff so I don't need to order next week if the weather hasn't improved or got worse.

I'll definitely be tipping the driver.

Purringkittenmama · 01/03/2018 18:25

Sorry. I'll try to step back from the moral high ground (if that's what I'm on).
We just all need to love and care about each other!

I booked sainsburys last night for a delivery this afternoon. They turned up an hour early - fab. Wouldn’t have minded if they hadn’t due to weather but glad they did. Plenty of snow here. Buses stopped, school shut (in Derbyshire). Amazon delivery came too.

ItMadeMyEyesWater · 01/03/2018 18:42

My Tesco delivery arrived on time 2pm, and everything I ordered was in stock. Just want to thank Tesco branch Stafford. You are brilliantSmile

BrendasUmbrella · 01/03/2018 19:17

I got my delivery, no problem Smile The driver said the roads were quite slippery so I'm glad I had a tip ready, I would have felt much more guilty otherwise! But we should be stocked up for the next 5-7 days now which should see it out. (Fingers crossed.)

Questionable hope you get your shopping on Sunday Thanks

Brenda How much did you tip the driver? nosey 🙈

BrendasUmbrella · 01/03/2018 19:20

And yes I do feel like a bit of a selfish knobber, but the service was available...

I tipped £3. Does that seem ok? It's all academic anyway as that was all I had!

Bloody Ocado cancelled my delivery for tomorrow, looks like I'll be going out as the cupboards are looking somewhat bare!

onlyonaTuesday · 01/03/2018 20:03

My delivery was due between 7 and 8 and has not arrived yet.
Hope the drivers ok.
Will they text or email to say it's cancelled??

SilverySurfer · 01/03/2018 20:05

I wouldn’t dream of ordering online shopping at the moment as wouldn’t want people to risk their lives as four people have been killed on the roads locally but it really doesn’t look bad down there to me.

Great if you're able bodied but I wasn't even before I fell and broke a bone in my knee and am totally reliant on deliveries.

Of course no-one wants anyone to endanger their lives and one would hope that sensible decisions will be made on the viability of being able to deliver or not.

onlyonaTuesday · 01/03/2018 20:15

Mine has just arrived.
The driver was just taking it easy due to the roads.

GrannyGrissle · 01/03/2018 22:28

My Tesco delivery came today-Stocked up on chocolate, ice cream and Heinz tomato soup Grin. The snow is pretty bad here but my heroic Tesco chap said he didn't mind driving in the snow as it wasn't his own vehicle at risk Grin

Ginkypig · 01/03/2018 23:10

I booked mine before all the snow to come on Sunday but as I can't even get my garden gate open and there is a about foot wall of snow against the front door I doubt it'll come.

I'm pleased you managed to get priority items delivered Grin

Bluelonerose · 01/03/2018 23:23

Mine came this morning too although if it hadn't we only would of needed milk and have plenty of dried milk in anyway.
I fear I may have to trek to the local shop for tea bags tomorrow though Sad

Ginkypig · 02/03/2018 19:40

Had a txt from Tesco about 3 hours ago telling me they were Sorry but Sunday's booking will not be delivered.

No slots until Wednesday so il bravo the shop for essentials once the buses start running properly again.

Rosiie · 02/03/2018 20:57

Ginky why don't you try Morrison's? Gone mine this morning Grin

Ginkypig · 02/03/2018 21:55

Thanks rosilie for the tip but Morrisons don't deliver to this area.

To be honest im in the original red warning zone and I doubt any of them would deliver. Not for the next few days anyway and I really don't blame them either!

I booked the slot before the snow hit but didn't expect it to come once I saw how bad it was.

Ginkypig · 02/03/2018 22:00

No panic though Iv got sharwood packet dhal in the cupboard and about 20 packets of crisps ohh and all the leftover lint chock/biscuits from Christmas
