I got a letter today telling me that they have over paid me by £70 which means that I have to pay it back which means even less money for me to live off every month because they keep finding ways to screw me over. I can't afford to feed myself so I am now having to go to the food bank and I'm having to sell stuff to get money together to try and pay bills and get some food in for the freezer. I feel so pissed off and annoyed with the whole thing I'm too ill to work and now they keep finding ways to kick me in the teeth and remind me how low I've sunk. I hate living like this.

But you have had money to which you were not entitled. Surely if you are too Ill to work you'll get more money?

GrumpyOldMare · 26/02/2018 20:34

Can you get to a CAB near you? I've found them really helpful when I've had similar problems.

Lilymossflower · 26/02/2018 20:34

Yeah UC is shit for me too. I hope there giving you the extra money for being too ill too work ! They try there best to give people as little as possible :(

LondonHereICome · 26/02/2018 20:36

Well if they've overpaid you, what did you spend it on? You surely realised..

Backscratchesforever · 26/02/2018 20:39

It’s £70, hardly going to get her much is it?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 20:39

whatshallidonowpeople it was housing benefit which they knew I was getting when I applied for the universal credit and they have found a million reasons why they need to take money off me for other things that I'm not getting. They expect me to survive a month on £111 because after they have taken money off that's all I'm entitled to.

GrumpyOldmare I will find out if there is one near me and speak to them. Today has just left me feeling really low and shit.

LillymossFlower yeah they do it's like they enjoy reminding us that we are in desperate need of help but if we put a foot wrong that help can very quickly be taken away.

They worked out what I was entitled to and gave me my money I haven't spent it on anything and now they have decided that they want it back.

Cabininthewoods69 · 26/02/2018 20:47

So they only give you £111 a month? What does this need to cover? Can you get to a food bank and are they any good for you. Don't they pay you money for being ill. I'm a nosy bitch sorry. Could you speak to someone to ensure your getting everything your entitled to

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 26/02/2018 20:47

Come on, it’s not like the OP has been living it up on champagne on a yacht in Monaco with her overpayments.

Try to have some sympathy with what sounds like a completely shit situation. Some people need to walk a mile in the shoes of people who are less fortunate than them before they understand what it’s like.

Also, it’s not as simple as ‘if you’re too ill to work, you’ll get extra money’ (paraphrasing). Getting PIP can be a long and often tortuous process (ime). Did you not read the article the other week about people being asked when they caught Down’s syndrome?

OP you have my sympathy. Even a small issue can feel huge when you’re at the bottom. Definitely go to see the CAB.

I hope things improve for you.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 20:50

cabininthewoods69 that's to buy food and pay bills that's all I get for a month. I had to go to the food bank today because I literally have nothing in I'm thinking about selling things just to try and see myself through the month. That is money for being ill and that's all that I'm entitled to they also expect me to use that £111 to cover my rent as well.

Bluelady · 26/02/2018 20:50

I hope things improve for you too. Talk about grinding the faces of the poor. The bastards will be bringing back workhouses at this rate.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 20:58

AnotherplaceAnothertime thank you I really wish I could afford to live it up on yacht but I couldn't even afford a camping trip in my parents back garden. Yeah this just feels like a huge problem and I have no idea how to fix it. Thank you. I will figure something out they really don't make it easy though.

OP posts:
Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:00

Thank you Bluelady yeah they probably will and we'll have to work for our dinner. I will sort this mess out just needed a rant it feels like things are constantly getting worse not better.

AnotherPlaceAnotherTime · 26/02/2018 21:04

Flowers OP you will get through this.

I wasn’t saying that this isn’t a huge problem for you - it absolutely is.

Mabelface · 26/02/2018 21:04

Yeah, she's been living it up on value baked beans and wide screen tellies with a full sky package. Hmm

OP, universal credit is shit. I hope your situation improves soon.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/02/2018 21:08

Why is it so low op, do you have earnings on top?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:12

Thank you AnotherplaceAnothertime it just feels like when things are looking ok along comes another blow to the teeth and I'm right back to square 1.

Madlizzy haha lol yeah the baked beans sounds about right I do have a 2nd 32inch tv from my parents and access to their Netflix account as well. Thank you am sure I will figure this out and get back on my feet.

Would anyone like to buy a slightly used soul I could really use the money right now.

OP posts:
Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:15

MyDcAreMarvel no nothing on top they took off the housing benefit that I was getting the last lot of SSP that I got and £271.00 for carers allowance that I've not had since 2016.

YANBU. People are dying because of Universal credit. It's inhumane. And the double whammy of the media going on about "benefits scroungers" doesn't help because it means people feel entitled to think all kinds of bullshit about people not managing on UC.
I hate it. It is a sign of the society we live in that we can't properly look after the most vulnerable
Anyone who thinks I'm being OTT, Google Universal Credit deaths and read some of the stories. It's heart breaking. And that's just the ones that have made it into the press.

maxthemartian · 26/02/2018 21:22

Sticking the boot in here is low even by AIBU standards.
OP I am sorry it's utterly shit.

Cabininthewoods69 · 26/02/2018 21:23

Our country is just so bloody backwards. We need to support those that need it and leave the rest that don't need it or don't help themselves to live like you are being forced to. I will be donating to the food bank after reading this. I'm so sorry that you are being failed

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/02/2018 21:27

That's awful op, what did they say when you told them about the carers?

QuentinSummers · 26/02/2018 21:28

Oh and OP Google Jack Monroe cooking on a bootstrap. Might help a bit.

user1492877024 · 26/02/2018 21:34

Shootfirstaskquestionslater

Friend of mine just had the same letter, only it was for over £600.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:35

QuentinSummers the problem is that they don't care and if people on universal credit are dying because of them they would see that as one less person to pay money to we are just societies scroungers we are the puppets and you dance to their tune or face losing even more money. I'm being punished for being too ill to work.

maxthemartian thank you I just wish I knew how to fix things.

Cabininthewoods69 this country has always been a bit backwards but now it's getting worse and it's the have nots that are getting punished for it. If I could work I would in a heartbeat because universal credit is just a monthly reminder that I'm another sponge on the system. It's good of you to donate to them someone will be extremely grateful for it. Thank you we are all being failed by the system.
