I got a letter today telling me that they have over paid me by £70 which means that I have to pay it back which means even less money for me to live off every month because they keep finding ways to screw me over. I can't afford to feed myself so I am now having to go to the food bank and I'm having to sell stuff to get money together to try and pay bills and get some food in for the freezer. I feel so pissed off and annoyed with the whole thing I'm too ill to work and now they keep finding ways to kick me in the teeth and remind me how low I've sunk. I hate living like this.

Wow there's some shit people on mumsnet. I'm sorry this is happening op, I hope your situation improves soon x

Oldbutstillgotit · 26/02/2018 21:49

No one should be expected to live on £111 per month. When did you last receive SSP ? Was it during your assessment period ? You also mention Carers Allowance - when did you receive that ?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:50

Downstairsmixup Thank you it will am sure I just have to figure something out it's just this system is seriously fucked up. Xx

Oldbutstillgotit · 26/02/2018 21:51

Do you receive DLA/ PIP ?

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:52

Oldbutstillgotit I last got SSP in January I got £178 that was during the assesment period so to was £70 housing benefit I last received carers money in 2016 I stopped claiming it because I upped my hours in work and now they are cutting my money because of it all.

I'm so sorry, OP. I hope things get better for you soon. Flowers

clumsyduck · 26/02/2018 21:58

I wish people who have zero empathy or no idea about claiming some sort of benefit would stay off these threads . Always seem to arrive to stick the boot in. If people are that jealous of the measley financial help some people get perhaps they should pack there well paying jobs in and see what it's like for a while Angry

Sorry op no real advice . Hope you get sorted ASAP

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 21:59

Thank you Hunterofstars I really hope they do too. Really don't know how they expect me to live like this. Flowers

I can understand why the SSP has been taken into account but wondering why you have no housing element? Assume you have checked your online statement ? Suggest you phone them first thing but I am sure you have thought about that . Sorry you are going through this .

mimibunz · 26/02/2018 22:06

Flowers Really sorry OP. Can you repay in small increments?

Storminateapot · 26/02/2018 22:07

It doesn't sound right to me. For a start to be deducting carers allowance which you don't receive must be a mistake. Have you been to CAB and got them to help you check it's correct?

If you have absolutely no other income at all then just over £25 a week can't be right, surely?

worridmum · 26/02/2018 22:08

Shocking that one of the richest countries in the world uses food banks to feed its people as the government ideology rather people starve then provide a basic level of living aka not being homeless / starving to death.

You judge a society on how it treats the most vulnerable members of the society.

Its not that the UK is out of money its all bloody ideology if the country was truly broke do you think it would give massive tax breaks to the richest members of the country paying Billions to prop up failing banks only to sell them back to said banks for less then they bought them for?

The general public has been feed a lie and eaten it up, will now all belive the lie that the country is out of money when in fact it is not.

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 22:28

Oldbutstillgotit i have already looked at the breakdown and I phoned them up only to be told that the £111 that I got is also to cover my rent.

minibunz they will automatically take it out of my benefit to pay it back.

storminateapot they looked in to it all and found out that I'm still down as a carer for my dad so they decided that I'm getting the money but I haven't recieved any money since 2016. I will go in to the CAB office and see if they can help me out. Yeah thats right thats what I'm suppose to live off every week.

worridmum thats what this great country of ours has turned in to the rich people are doing just fine and will sail through life its the poor and the sick that get punished. To point of having to go to food banks and sitting here wondering how long it will take them to have me on the streets begging for food.

It should be easy enough to confirm you no longer receive CA.

MotherofaSurvivor · 26/02/2018 22:32

I can vouch for OP that they do do this! They did it to me and I have a baby as well as disabilities. They don't give a jot. They left us with £20 a week to live on

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 26/02/2018 22:35

Oldbutstillgotit I told them that I no longer get the money and they said they would phone them up and I would get the money that they have taken off me back but I never did.

MotherofaSurvivor they make it really bloody hard to live don't they and how can they do that to you and your baby.

I'm going to be featured on a Dispatches documentary about what Universal Credit did to me, it was horrendous. I nearly had to make the call to voluntarily put my child in temp foster Care as I could barely feed & clothe her it was horrendous for 5 months.

I wish some of you on here knew what Universal Credit do to disabled people it is in humane!

Every disabled person who claims/moves onto u Universal credit (willingly or is moved onto it from another benefit) HAS to have a work Coach and look for work for 3 months (minimum) before they will give you disability payments. Even PARAPLEGIC patients!!! And no, I am NOT exaggerating or making it up!

RitasEducation · 26/02/2018 22:39

It is awful OP.

So many people are really struggling. DP and I both work, I am part time due to health reasons and we scrap by most weeks.

Can any of your family help you out financially. Is there any work you can do from home.

They say your health is your wealth. When neither is going well its no wonder people are dying.

Oldbutstillgotit · 26/02/2018 22:41

Are you due any more SSP? Sorry for all the questions but am trying to figure it out. Monthly rate for single person aged 25= is £317.82 plus housing element so clearly something amiss if you have no other income.

Oldbutstillgotit · 26/02/2018 22:41

25+

AnneElliott · 26/02/2018 22:43

That's terrible op. You should keep on at them though if they should be refunding you for earlier deductions.

Have you told your friends and family. I'd be upset a friend/relative hadn't told me how bad it is so I could help out.

AwesomeMixTapeVol1 · 26/02/2018 22:44

Universal Credit has caused so many problems for so many people.
OP - you should be entitled to Council Tax Benefit if you're on UC, might be worth contacting your local council if You're not getting this yet.
