To ask if this is a normal house spider?

Changed name in case DH comes I here. DH has put a huge ducking spider in DSs spider farm. He found it in the bath. I think it's markings look unusual (not that I've ever examined a spider the size of a plate before!).

Is it a normal spider? I don't usually freak out about spiders (mice are another thing) but I just can't shake the feeling that a spider that big has a whole lot of wrong going on.

The body is about 2 cm long and legs about 4.

To ask if this is a normal house spider?

It's a normal spider. I can't remember it's name but they're fairly common.

midnightflowers · 19/02/2018 22:40

Is that a plate underneath? Shock

freakyspider · 19/02/2018 22:40

No it's not thank god.

Thank you!!

What is a spider farm?

iklboo · 19/02/2018 22:42

It could be a wolf spider. Quite chunky beasties.

beepthemeep · 19/02/2018 22:43

You have a spider farm?

You have literally brought my nightmares to life. Arrrrrrrrrgh!!!!!

Also, don't the violent leggy cannibalistic bastards just eat one anot- you know what, don't answer that 🙉🙉🙉

freakyspider · 19/02/2018 22:43

Basically it's a Perspex box with a lid with holes. You put twigs and a spider in there. I hate it. DS was given it as a present.

Yeah- lol at the previous posters who just let "spider farm" go with nary a sideways glance...

Who the fuck allows a spider farm in their house?!?!

GreyGardens88 · 19/02/2018 22:44

Yes spill the tea, why is there a spider farm in your house

DuckAndPancakes · 19/02/2018 22:44

Just asked and showed pest expert DP.

Perfectly normal spider.

Badwifey · 19/02/2018 22:45

also wondering what a spider farm is... is it similar to an ant farm?

teaandtoast · 19/02/2018 22:45

I read this, looked at the picture then scrolled down to movement at the bottom. Those bloody bunnies. I thought for a second they were a spider!

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 19/02/2018 22:45

No to the spider farm. Just no.

Are you in Britain? If yes it looks like a biggish house spider if you in Australia then noiooooo.

GladAllOver · 19/02/2018 22:46

It's a perfectly normal house spider and entirely harmless to you.
But if it finds any unwanted insect pests it will do you a favour and get rid of them.
If DS is keeping it enclosed, make sure that that it doesn't get dehydrated. Drop in a soggy tissue so that it can have a drink.

JoeyMaynardssolidlump · 19/02/2018 22:46

tea

Me you nearly jumped at those bloody bunnies Grin

LegallyBrunet · 19/02/2018 22:48

YABU for allowing a spider farm into your house. That is all

freakyspider · 19/02/2018 22:49

Just looked up wolf spider and I think that's it. So panic over.

Apparently they have 8 eyes in 3 rows so will get a closer look tomorrow.

Yes we give it water and food (live insects. They won't eat dead ones).

Spider farm SO not my idea!

Spider farm

MotherforkingShirtballs · 19/02/2018 22:53

You know you've pissed off your friend/relative when they buy your DC a spider farm....

I never see any spiders in my house, ever.

FrancisUnderwood · 19/02/2018 22:54

Yes, but be slightly careful.. Wolf spiders bite. One bit me once (it got inside a jumper i'd left in the garden) and I had to have the area of flesh removed eventually as it never really healed.

I'm fine, obvs, but.......bitey bastards.

freakyspider · 19/02/2018 22:55

This one was found rattling around in the bath. Fucking loud! Sounded like it had shoes on Grin
