Kind of lighthearted but not...

I’ve been a farter my whole life. Never really been a problem, it’s just the way I am. DP absolutely HATES it and gets incredibly angry whenever I let off a little parp. My argument is that I get stomach ache from holding it in all day at work and want to be able to release the gas when I get home. I try to be respectful and polite by nipping to the bathroom whenever possible, but sometimes there just isn’t time! It has me in fits of giggles (yes, I know I’m childish) and seeing DP’s disgusted face just tickles me even more.

AIBU to be letting off so much gas in my own home, or is DP BU by expecting me to hold it in forever?

No. Nothing as funny as a good fart. And it doesn’t seem healthy to hold them in all day either.

Your partner needs to loosen up and get a sense of humour.

Fliggt · 05/02/2018 23:08

YANBU!

chocolatespiders · 05/02/2018 23:10

It's only air!

Dancingfairy · 05/02/2018 23:10

Yanbu and I say that as someone who actually doesn't fart infront of others but some people are just farters, one of my sons farts loud constantly, he can't help it.

Dancingfairy · 05/02/2018 23:11

I don't find farts funny though.

borlottibeans · 05/02/2018 23:15

One of the great joys of my relationship is congratulating each other on particularly impressive farts.

(hence the username, apparently)

BookHelpPlease · 05/02/2018 23:19

My dad does this and i hate it. I won't sit with him for an evening anymore if I stay at his I go to another room.

I think its really disrespectful if your DP isn't into it. Can't you sort out your diet so you're not so gassy or do more toilet trips are work so there is less "build up"?

Twinkletoes2018 · 05/02/2018 23:20

I have Ibs and can fart quite a bit I genuinely can't help it. My husbands farts make me cringe tho as they are just so loud! U think farting is something you just can't help sometimes I think it's bad for the body to try and hold them in

BookHelpPlease · 05/02/2018 23:21

How many are you talking? 1 or maybe 2 little ones an evening I would cope with but a constant stream of trumping is not pleasant.

DaviesMum · 05/02/2018 23:22

I love a good fart. I like the ones that ripple up my crack and give a snap of my kinicker elastic at the top. Blush

My favourite is to drop one at work in the lift and race past people trying to get on. I love seeing them turn around and watch the smile falter as my noxious fumes smother them all the way. Given that I work with an absolute vipers nest of people, I'll take my petty victories where I can find them.

PastaOfMuppets · 05/02/2018 23:23

There have been lots of threads about male DPs who fart nonstop ... those threads usually receive a chorus of disgusted responses saying it is repulsive, bad manners and rude. I don't see why this would be any different?

jenthehen · 05/02/2018 23:23

Have you tried cutting out gluten from your diet? It completely stopped my bloating/farting. Life changing

petbear · 05/02/2018 23:29

Sorry, but as 'funny' as some people find FARTS, they are not funny when someone keeps doing them. The 'funny side' of someone cracking off stinky, wet, loud farts wears thin very quickly. It's pretty gross. It's someone's rectal gas, and sometimes it's coming past a shit.

It has me in fits of giggles (yes, I know I’m childish) and seeing DP’s disgusted face just tickles me even more.

I'd have left you now. You sound like a twat.

Dancingfairy · 05/02/2018 23:32

I don't get how they are funny. I can understand if you can't help it (like I said my sons the same) but it's not nice to have to sit in someone's stinky bum gas.

MrMeSeeks · 05/02/2018 23:35

Nooe, not funny

petbear · 05/02/2018 23:43

But she can help it @DancingFairy , and thinks she is funny, and loves to watch her partner squirm and suffer and get angry.

If this thread isn't a wind-up, the OP - as I said - is a twat.

hadthesnip · 05/02/2018 23:45

If you're living with someone with whom (I assume) you are swapping bodily fluids with, then what's the harm in the odd fart. I must admit, someone sitting there trumping away all evening would be pretty bad, but the odd one is acceptable - but NOT if you are about to get amorous.

greenritta · 05/02/2018 23:50

He can't expect you to hold it all in, that's how you get spontaneous combustion!

ShellyBoobs · 05/02/2018 23:52

Disgusting that you would be so disrespectful to your DP.

Imagine this thread if the roles were reversed!

How anyone can find it funny to inflict the stench of their shit - for that’s what it is - on someone is utterly beyond me.

GabsAlot · 05/02/2018 23:54

i dont find them funny but if u cant help it thats just life

maybe dont make a big deal out of it every time?

TournesolsetLavande · 06/02/2018 00:00

I know it's a natural bodily function and we all have to do it from time to time, but I think you should make more effort to do it in the privacy of the bathroom, or go into the garden.

I would find it very hard work living with someone who was farting noisily and stinkily in front of me all the time and finding it hilarious.

It's a sure way to stop him fancying you, if that's what your aim is.Confused

You should probably go to see your GP. It's not normal to need to fart with such frequency. You might have a digestive issue that can be solved with the right help.

WitchIwasaWitch18 · 06/02/2018 00:02

I think some people are getting overly cat bum faced at the OP. We all fart even at night when we're asleep and can't hold them in by will power.

Some are smelly, some are loud and the silent deadly ones are the worst to come across. Personally I find them funny but wouldn't go out of my way to inflict them on the family.

I will confess the dog has been unfairly blamed several times and been turfed into the garden in the rain to let them out there. She's not told on me though.

halfwitpicker · 06/02/2018 00:04

The odd parp here and there yes but constantly farting?

Fuck that.

HuskyMcClusky · 06/02/2018 00:08

Yeah, farting in your sleep is one thing. You can’t exactly help that.

Farting all over the place and giggling? Really mature and attractive (not).

petbear · 06/02/2018 00:09

@witchthingy

Nobody is 'cat bum faced.' Don't be ridiculous.

Sitting there farting constantly 24/7 as the OP said like a fucking weirdo, and laughing and giggling like a stupid little kid, and thinking she is 'hilarious' is pathetic.

I assume you do it at work too, and in the supermarket, and whilst out at a meal, or in the cinema???

Probably not eh, coz this thread is a fucking wind-up isn't it?
