'Best Day Of Your Life'

AIBU to say I find it a bit depressing when people claim their wedding day, or the day their baby was born is the best day of their life? Isn't that just saying actually being married or having a child is just an anticlimax? I haven't done either so I can't really judge, but in your experience is it true?

Anticlimax? It can’t all be one long climax though can it. I mean, I love DH, but I don’t live every day in an agony of ecstasy now I’m married. ‘Best’ day doesn’t really mean anything any way, it’s just code for ‘day I can remember vaguely clearly’.

The day my DS was born was the best day of my life , I've had loads of great days before and after but I'd never seen anyone that I'd fell so utterly and completely in love with straight away

Meeting my children for the first time were absolutely the best days of my life. Closely followed by Ireland winning the grand slam.

My wedding day was the best day of my life, hands down. I just felt so happy and everything just felt right!

However the day my child was born I was in quite a bit of discomfort, knackered and terrified about how I was going to look after this tiny little person so I wouldn’t say it was the best day of my life.

Mine is more of a 'moment'. My son was born about a month after my 16th birthday. It was a horrific birth and I was terrified. When I left the delivery suite to go to the ward, I kept staring at this little creature, all I could think was 'it's just me, I'm responsible for this person, like he has no one but me' it was daunting and I was overwhelmed. He didn't want to feed and we both fell asleep on the ward. Around 2 hours later, I woke up for no reason. The ward was silent and my son was in his transparent crib, wrapped in a stiff hospital sheet and mustard coloured cellular blanket, his cheeks were all squished up and all the worry just fell away, I loved him and became a mother in that moment. He's 13 now and we've had lots of days/ moments that were more fun and could be described as 'the best' but that moment defined my whole life and was the absolute perfect moment.

The day my DC's were born absolutely were the best days of my life and the time we went to T in the Park in 2001!

Marriage, meh. But I blocked my wedding out. Mostly.

The day DS was born was the fucking balls. Seeing his little face and spending my first night with him was amazing. I felt 'whole'. Feel free to BOAK.

The day my first baby was born certainly wasn’t the best day of my life by a long chalk. I didn’t have a “rush of love” for him and I was sore, knackered and had my fanjo torn to shreds. What’s great about that?

The day my little girl was born truly has to be the best day ever and I felt like all my dreams had come true and I was finally a mummy. Can't top that feeling.

A couple can have been together 50 years and still have a “how we met” story - doesn’t mean that’s their happiest ever moment but it was a really significant one that everything else came after. Same as meeting your child for the first time - there are lovely moments every day but only one first day.

The three best days of my life were the birth of my two gorgeous DS, and my wedding. If u r not married to your true love, and do not have children, u possibly won't understand. I definitely had no idea about how amazing children were until the day mind popped out!

The day she was born was horrific.

Realising she was not as sick as she was forecast to be and was not being rushed off to theatre was pretty special but hardly qualifies for best DAY (since it was in the middle of the fucking night)

Best day, there’s been lots that could go in the running, the day that catalunya declared independence wins I think.

It was perfect, we were parked in our camper van by the beach, we swam a lot, ate beautiful food, watched a glorious sunset, we weren’t rushing here or there, trying to achieve anything or impress anyone, just bumbling round together doing our thing. Only downside was there was a lot of mosquitos. I went out for a pee after she went to bed and the side of the van was sheeted in them, it was like something out of Stephen king

The day you are joined to the love your life in the company of all your family and friends.... and the day you give birth to your child.....they're pretty bloody amazing surely?
What could be better? The day you saw a band play?

What sort of thing do you think should qualify as the best day of your life?

The day my children were born I mostly felt confused and dazzled.

I love them and I hope that I can give them many contenders for the best day of their lives but nope. The actual day of their birth, for me, wasn’t it.

Actually crunchtime The first time I saw the Manic Street Preachers play when I was 15 WAS one of the best days of my life. Ditto seeing R.E.M. at Glastonbury in 1999.

My wedding day was one of the best days of my life though. I've never been so happy.

My wedding day was my best day ever but when I had my daughter it just topped it I can't explain how much I was in love with her

I was fucking terrified for most of the time on those occasions.
They definitely felt momentous but I wouldn’t call them the best days of my life.

Passing my driving test was my best day ever. I sat so many times it was a fantastic day when I finally passed.

The kids and Dh are great and all that but...

If u r not married to your true love, and do not have children, u possibly won't understand.

I am married to someone I love deeply, and I chiefly remember my wedding day with minor irritation, because I was in the middle of a particularly absorbing work project, and resented taking an afternoon off to get married with two witnesses in a registry office.

Likewise, I have a son I absolutely adore, but the day he was born was exhausting and painful, and then I nearly died into the bargain, which is the bit I remember. Not a contender for Best Day Ever, either.

I agree, sort of. I told my dh that I hoped our wedding day wasn't the best day of our lives because then I'd have nothing to look forward to lol! It's just a saying though (imo) and most people have multiple days / occasions / periods that get remembered as the 'greatest' for all different reasons.

You can still have loads of other lovely days, but your wedding is probably the one day when everything is about the two of you - so your choice of venue, of ceremony, of style, etc., but mainly the day that you were able to share with all your favourite people in the world. If that isn't one of the best days, then that's pretty sad.

Personally I wouldn't say the days I gave birth were on y list of bast days, as there was too much agony pain involved. Don't get me wrong, I'm overwhelmingly proud of the fine young adults they now are, but I wouldn't say any day that involved labour could ever be considered a lovely day. However, I knw what people mean when they ay it.

So, OP, what do you think would be a better day than a wedding day, for lots of people ?

Having my DC and getting married etc were the best things that ever happened to me, not really the best days of my life though.

The best day of my life probably involved doing nothing and a lot of wine and chocolate.
