I thought that watching TOTP last night Grin. Also she doesn’t have the most appallingly annoying show on R2 and is therefore better.

Mind you when it comes to karaoke I try to do both parts and wow betide anyone who tries to take a bit from me Grin

blackbunny · 03/02/2018 23:05

Both great singers but Barbara's voice is sweeter and less strident, I reckon

MulhuddartDrive · 03/02/2018 23:11

Just had a flash back to long car journeys in the 1980s.

andysghost · 03/02/2018 23:12

That TOTP prompted me to post this Grin

It's a great song from an angst ridden point of view Wink

My sister and I learned every word and used to perform it for our (bemused) parents. We were still at primary school...

CanIBuffalo · 03/02/2018 23:15

Barbara is best. There's a sincerity.

NannyR · 03/02/2018 23:15

Barbara, definitely. Elaine has a good, strong voice but Barbara has something distinctive about her voice (I might be biased though, my parents played a lot of Barbara Dickson LPs when I was growing up in the eighties!!)

CheeseGirl4 · 03/02/2018 23:15

Fist pump
Me and a friend sing this when we're... ahh..refreshed. I always sing Barbara.

HemanOrSheRa · 03/02/2018 23:19

Barbara has a beautiful, natural voice. She was also my Mum's favourite, so Barbara wins.

LoniceraJaponica · 03/02/2018 23:20

Many years ago I watched a programme about how an untrained opera singer might sing opera. They had a trained opera singer and Barbara Dixon, and they both sang Che faro senza Euridice from Orpheus and Euridice. Barbara Dixon sang it beautifully.

DuchessofStBridget · 03/02/2018 23:21

Is this about I Know Him So Well? I love that song. Don't know who's singing what but I'd love any suggestions for similar songs, i.e theatrical angst.

Santasballsack · 03/02/2018 23:22

Love BD. Band of gold, dated but great to rewatch!

Annamadrigal · 03/02/2018 23:22

Ah @Backingvocals- I try to harmonize with myself with this song Grin

andysghost · 03/02/2018 23:25

Totally about I know him so well

Barbara Dickson is always going to win that battle for me.

Even if Elaine Paige didn't sound so fake on her radio show.

Smidge001 · 03/02/2018 23:26

My favourite song ever! Heart wrenching and powerful at the same time.

andysghost · 03/02/2018 23:27

Thanks for posting that link - beautiful

I love that song.

HemanOrSheRa · 03/02/2018 23:28

Bloody hell Santa! Band Of Gold - that's blast from the past. That was proper TV drama.

andysghost · 03/02/2018 23:28

Band of gold was great TV

That was the first Kay Mellor drama I watched. I lived in Leeds at the time and knew the area of Bradford in which it was set.

georgeoutside · 03/02/2018 23:43

I love EP and have seen her live but she annoys the hell out of me on radio 2

Also I agree Barbara is much better

HelenaDove · 03/02/2018 23:55

Barbara. Both great singers but Barbara is the better of the two.

In 1985 she was in the audience of An Audience with Billy Connolly
He was taking the piss out of Scottish singers and Barbara had tears of laughter rolling down her face.

EmpireVille · 03/02/2018 23:57

Watch the video of I Know Him So Well - it's on YouTube. But I warn you, the video is so amateur and 80s it may ruin the song for you! Elaine's pointy nipples. Barbara's pussy bow and pencil skirt. The walk-on waiter, the funky camera work. It's awesomely naff.
