To think threading is like a form of torture!

I have my eye brows shaped fairly regularly as I am unable to do them myself.

Over the years I have had had them waxed/tweezered without a problem.

A few years ago I tried having them threaded - I like the result but it was so bloody painful! I didn't try it again for ages!

I have tried it on occasion since and every time it is the same.

Tried again today and although the last who did it was much more gentle than previous people it still feels like torture that you pay for! Someone next to me was having their top lip threadedShock

Does anyone else find threading so painful?

I am sticking to waxing/tweezering in future!

I’m completely with you!! It’s torture.

But it looks good so I put myself through it monthly!!

AlbertaSimmons · 03/02/2018 20:59

Torture, but soon over, and result is much better than plucking or waxing, so worth it.

Haha. I have middle eastern heritage which has given me lovely dark, thick hair but pale skin - lovely on my head but unwanted most other places! I get my whole face done about once a month or so, and pluck my eyebrows in-between. I would call it uncomfortable rather than painful, except for the upper lip which is painful and sometimes genuinely makes my eyes water!! But the beauticians have seen it all before. There was a teenage girl getting her eyebrows threaded at the salon I went to a few weeks ago and she was crying quite a bit the poor wee thing. I can tolerate threading well but then I can't epilate my legs because I can't bear it, I find that soooo painful. I also really want to try a bikini wax but I'm too worried I won't tolerate the pain. I think everyone's just different and finds different things more/less painful really.

UpstartCrow · 03/02/2018 21:00

I use home waxing strips, it takes a few minutes and its nearly painless. So I assumed it didn't actually hurt and bought a spring epilator.
Cue me with the thing stuck on my face and me crying, trying to get it off by bending it because I was too chicken to pull.

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2018 21:00

It's the sort of pain I can quite enjoy... Maybe not the right word but it doesn't bother me much

Shmithecat · 03/02/2018 21:01

It's painful AF but so much better than waxing. More precise. Less stress on your skin.

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2018 21:02

And the pain is associated with having good brows.
What I strtuggle with is letting them grow to get it done. Just having more brow hair is fine but mine seem to grow in odd places and at off angles, I look an absolute mess. So it's only if I happen to have messy brows and see somewhere I can get it done I do it. I can't plan it.

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2018 21:03

Meadow I have really blonde hair but it makes it more of a chore imo as I can't see the buggers. Unless they're sticking out at 270degrees of course, and then they're so fine I cant get a grip, even with the needle nosed tweezers.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 03/02/2018 21:20

Omg it’s the worst- the thought of it makes me feel sick (and I’ve had a natural birth).....I actually could cope with the lip better than the brows but even then I’d have to stop constantly to cry!

StealthPolarBear · 03/02/2018 21:23

How do other people cope with stupid sticky out brow hair

twobambinos · 03/02/2018 21:23

Got my lip done for the first time this week. My god the water coming out of my eyes Sad it's fab now

UpstartCrow · 03/02/2018 21:24

StealthPolarBear I bought a home electrolysis kit for the worst offenders.

WhooooAmI24601 · 03/02/2018 21:25

Work of the devil himself but there's nothing quite like it for eyebrows and top lips; nothing escapes those threads of doom.

LaurieMarlow · 03/02/2018 21:25

Yeah it's usually quite a bit worse than waxing.

But I've found it varies quite a lot depending on the beautician. The last time I got it done it was significantly better than normal.

feeona123 · 03/02/2018 21:27

My eyes cry every time!! Torture!!!

mimibunz · 03/02/2018 21:27

Yes! I actually cried and asked the woman to stop. Left with one groomed eyebrow.

NurseButtercup · 03/02/2018 21:28

Yup it hurts - but I prefer the finish of threading over waxing and plucking 😝

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 03/02/2018 21:31

The only time I tried it I was eye watering before she even started, the lights were that bright. I left feeling somehow my brows were exactly the same, no tidying or anything, yes covered in tiny cuts that took ages to heal. Like papercuts to the brow! Little criss cross lines. Never again! Waste of money

sirlee66 · 03/02/2018 21:32

Eyebrow threading was fine. I'd get mine done every 2/3 weeks. A little stingy but nothing major... Then I got pregnant... Holy mother of god that shit HURTS!!! I know your skin becomes more sensitive in pregnancy but Jesus H Christ!!! I've since invested in a veet precession trimmer.. [haha]

pinkmagic1 · 03/02/2018 21:32

I must have an extremely high threshold as threading barely registers on the pain register. I have had my whole face done occasionally.
I persuaded my mum to have it done once and she had to get them to stop!

Ollivander84 · 03/02/2018 21:33

I do my own Grin
To be honest now I use a scalpel (same idea as a mini razor) and just whip the lip and brow hair off

Andylion · 03/02/2018 21:34

It's painful AF but so much better than waxing. More precise. Less stress on your skin.

Is it also better than plucking? How does it work? (Something for me to google, I suppose.)

Berrygoodteeth · 03/02/2018 21:41

I can sit and have my entire face threaded without even blinking, but the idea of a bikini wax brings me out in a cold sweat!

Shmithecat · 03/02/2018 21:47

@Andylion it's not dissimilar to plucking - but rather than tweezers, the hair is being pulled out between a twisting thread. Like manual epilation.

SweetMoon · 03/02/2018 21:49

I didn't find it painful as such. Plus it's over really quick. Mind you I've had 4 children with no pain relief so I'm probably immune to most things now!
