To think threading is like a form of torture!

I have my eye brows shaped fairly regularly as I am unable to do them myself.

Over the years I have had had them waxed/tweezered without a problem.

A few years ago I tried having them threaded - I like the result but it was so bloody painful! I didn't try it again for ages!

I have tried it on occasion since and every time it is the same.

Tried again today and although the last who did it was much more gentle than previous people it still feels like torture that you pay for! Someone next to me was having their top lip threadedShock

Does anyone else find threading so painful?

I am sticking to waxing/tweezering in future!

It's the sort of pain I can quite enjoy... Maybe not the right word but it doesn't bother me much

I can cope with brows. Had my upper lip done once. Hideous.

mollifly · 03/02/2018 21:56

See I think plucking is horrific but threading isn't bad at all!

SinglePringle · 03/02/2018 21:59

I barely feel my brows —and chin— being done. Literally can’t feel it.

I’m liable to punch anyone who comes at my top lip with thread however. That hurts like a bitch.

MichaelFabricantsHair · 03/02/2018 21:59

I have to have my eyebrows waxed every 3 weeks otherwise I'd look like Norman Lamont in no time. It's a pain and I've considered threading to see if the results last longer but I'm scared of the potential pain.
This thread confirms my fears Grin

skippykips · 03/02/2018 22:00

I love mine being threaded. It is painful but it is a relaxing pain. Waxing makes me cry though!

bokkleorandoove · 03/02/2018 22:01

I find it hurts less after my period. I don’t find it too painful generally but it always makes my nose twitch/makes me want to sneeze. Holding in a sneeze is not fun - I’m scared the therapist will accidentally remove my entire eyebrow if I sneeze!

Bindibot · 03/02/2018 22:04

Bonjela people…

15 or so minutes before threading. Walk in the park.

Aragog · 03/02/2018 22:09

I don't find it anymore painful than waxing. And the results last longer. 15y Dd has hers threaded too and is fine with it - her eyes water a bit but can't be too bad for her as she keeps returning.

mumgointhroughtorture · 03/02/2018 22:13

I have zero pain threshold . My eyes water having my eyebrows threaded . I actually dread going and put it off and then it hurts more coz the hair gets longer ...

However , plucking crosses the line . I can't stand that pain ! Threading I can just about handle .

Bigfatchips · 03/02/2018 22:16

YADNBU. And that ripping sound. Stomach-churning.

PeaPodPopper · 03/02/2018 22:17

I do my own so never tried it - though I'm more fascinated at seeing people sat in chairs in the windows of superdrug in a couple of towns near here, having threading carried out on them in full view of any or all who want to watch. Confused

iveburntthetoast · 03/02/2018 22:19

I don’t mind it...almost enjoy it!

StickThatInYourPipe · 03/02/2018 22:24

I love having my brows threaded, normally go every 2 weeks but it is only about £4 where I am so not expensive.

When I had them waxed (as a teenager about 15 years ago!) it cost me £14 so I think eye brow makntence must be the only thing that has got cheaper as I have aged Grin

happymummy12345 · 04/02/2018 01:06

I couldn't imagine hot wax being ripped off my skin. I'll stick to threading. It's all I've ever done

SignoraStronza · 04/02/2018 01:11

I think I've had it done once - didn't find it too bad. I don't go shopping much if I can help it and the last time I visited a shopping mall I was astonished to see all these booths and department store chairs sprung up everywhere. People get this done in public?!Shock

Longdistance · 04/02/2018 01:26

I hate the pain too, and my face ends up all red. That bit I hate even more as I have to walk through my home town quite a distance with the red face.
When it’s calmed down, the results are amazing. Being a hairy Eastern European, I’m hair free for a couple of months, so quite lucky.

Celticrose · 04/02/2018 16:50

Had threading on my face about 9 years ago. Very miminal pain. She was that good. Fast forward 8 years and I tried it again at one of those outlets in a local shopping centre. Had to stop her after only a minute could not take it anymore. The girl I had originally was a mobile beauty therapist we had booked for a girls weekend away in a rented townhouse. I had told people that threading was really not painful. I have now changed my tune. In my case it really depended on whom was doing it

Whitecurrants · 04/02/2018 16:54

I want to know what Jo Brand does?

Oblomov18 · 04/02/2018 16:57

I find it completely painless. Zero pain.

TheQueenOfWands · 04/02/2018 16:59

Agreed.

I'm quite heavily tattooed, all done with minimum fuss.

But threading? Nope. Agony. I reckon it was first devised as a torture method.

rightknockered · 04/02/2018 17:04

I don't feel any pain, but I've been doing it for years so may have deadened the nerves. I used to epilate and didn't find that painful either. But can not tolerate a bikini wax

Laiste · 04/02/2018 17:08

One of my DDs is a beautician and does threading. She does me and her sisters at home. By fuck it hurts! Grin She has forbade me coming into the salon because of the noise i make.

Mind you, she has a regular client who shouts ''oooooh y'CUNT !!'' at DD at the top of her voice with every swipe. And then sweetly - ''it's fine, carry on hun ....''.

DD's like: Hmm ''right madame, just relax''

GrinGrinGrin i'd love to be a fly on the wall.

Andylion · 04/02/2018 18:42

Thanks, Shmithecat'. I over plucked when I was twelve. I have no need of brow waxes. If anything, I used to pencil in a few "hairs" in my left brow.

TrickyD · 04/02/2018 18:56

I find threading excruciating, much happier with waxing and the result is virtually identical.

The first time I had my eyebrows threaded, the girl looked at me and asked if I wanted my lip waxed.

God knows almost every bit of my body and face could do with improvement but my upper lip had never given me cause for concern.

Now I give it very suspicious looks every time I peer in the mirror, on the lookout for sudden sprouting.
