To want a colon cleanse?

I can't remember the official term but they stick a pipe up your arse and flush all the shit out of your system. DH thinks it's a faddy waste of money but after suffering years of chronic constipation, I'd love to feel the emptiness just once?

I'm also trying to lose weight so this would probably rid me of half a stone of poo

I had a course of it about 15 years ago. My ibs started shortly after. I have no medical evidence to suggest that the colonic hydrotherapy was to blame, but it’s a big coincidence.

Colons don't need cleansing.
Why do you suffer with constipation?
And you won't lose fat and be slimmer from this procedure.

It's a really terrible idea if you have digestive issues. You are much better off trying to fix the constipation. There is a very real chance colonic irrigation would make it worse. There is a reason it is not a medical procedure that is prescribed...

It doesn’t help at all with weight loss or anything else, and it removes healthy bacteria from your colon. I don’t know anyone whose had a medical enema who didn’t find it horrendous.

Terrible idea.

I have colonoscopies once a year - they are more thorough than colonic irrigation as you have to have a completely empty bowel. You feel literally no different.

Anyway old poo doesn’t just sit around the colon. When it’s out it’s out

its pseudo-science.

They sell it as a way to clear out 'all that horrible gunk' in your colon but your body is perfectly able to do this itself (usually) there is also plenty of evidence that they can cause you harm and damage the lining of your intestines. i would encourage you to find alternative cures for your constipation. i take a daily stool softener Lactulose and it is great!

Even the weight loss is an illusion. similar to throwing up or a bout of diarrhea it simply empties you of your normal food weight and that will get topped up in 24 hours or so, so whats the point?

Colonic irrigation can be dangerous in some cases. Make yourself aware.

It’s a big con. Your colon can empty and clean itself!
Change your diet and buy yourself a nutribullet or a ton of chia seeds if you want to waste some money!

I read something gruesome once about bits of steak being flushed out of people who had turned veggie ages before - I'm quite fascinated by this. It must feel bloody weird though.

I've had one as a one off and absolutely loved it. Felt 'clean' & light afterwards, far less bloating and made me want to eat healthily to maintain that feeling.

I don't have any gastric issues so may be why it worked for me.

Enemas are brilliant and you
Can do them at home. After the clenase make sure you have a good diet and take It easy. It takes a lot out of you

Freaky, I had my first colonic hydrotherapy ever this morning! Still not sure what I think about it. Not the best hour I've ever spent, but not that bad either!
Can't really tell what effect it's had yet ....

Be careful OP, my sister had to see one of the top colo-rectal surgeons (for an unrelated matter) and he was adamant that colonics are hugely damaging and should not be done. I desperately want one for the same reasons as you but his words are still ringing in my ears...

Please don't! They're not good for you at all. It flushes all the good stuff out too.

Think about it. If it worked the NHS would dole it out left, right and centre as water and a tube is way cheaper than costly medication!

Your gut is full of useful bacteria and it's takes years for it to be fully colonised with the correct balance

You shouldn't be washing them all away, let alone if you already have digestive issues

You know how people get terrible gut problems after being on antibiotics which kill off their gut bacteria..? It is the same after a colonic.

And that's before you look at the risks of perforating your gut...

I'm a bit of a clean freak but...trust me, that bit doesn't need 'cleaning'.

It won't fix your issues, will probably make them worse in the long run and is a complete waste of time.

Do it! They are amazing, I used to hand it done once a month. I think that and a shot of aloe juice every morning really helped sort out my IBS issues.
