To want a colon cleanse?

TakeMeToTheUSA · 22/01/2018 20:27

I can't remember the official term but they stick a pipe up your arse and flush all the shit out of your system. DH thinks it's a faddy waste of money but after suffering years of chronic constipation, I'd love to feel the emptiness just once?

I'm also trying to lose weight so this would probably rid me of half a stone of poo

OP posts:
NewYearNiki · 22/01/2018 21:04

If you want to flush it all out, buy a bottle of milk of magnesia and take 3 capsule at night.

Don't make any plans the next morning.

It's that effective.

Crumbs1 · 22/01/2018 21:06

Bizarre desire. Unless you want bowel infections, a perforated bowel, electrolyte imbalances p, abdominal cramping etc. It’s not very good for you and has no benefits. Used frequently it can reduce The motility of the bowel, and increase constipation.

If you want a clear bowel, exercise, high fibre diet, plenty of oral fluids and sufficient time to allow body to function properly are key.

Hyggelpyggel · 22/01/2018 21:07

I suppose it's good if your partner wants to do Greek shortly afterwards. It benefits him more than you though.

NewYearNiki · 22/01/2018 21:08

Looking at your other thread at the moment where you detail your diet.

You are constipated as you consume nothing but sugar and carbs and dont eat any fruit or veg.

Lndnmummy · 22/01/2018 21:10

They are brilliant. I swear by them. It is like a facial and detox all in one. Once you see everything coming out you realise how much does get stuck in there.

taskmaster · 22/01/2018 21:11

It's not like a facial and detox isn't actually a thing.

Wolfiefan · 22/01/2018 21:11

How in the name of holy fuck is forcing a foreign object and introducing possible infection to your bowel anything like a facial?
Seriously bad idea.

PerfectlyDone · 22/01/2018 21:13

It is like a facial and detox all in one

Go and have a facial.
'Detox' is an entirely made up phrase used to market all sorts of, pardon the pun, crap Grin

Colonic irrigation is not without risks including bowel perforation.
And, as the word says, it irrigates your colon i.e. the last 2-3 feet of your bowel, not the 20-25 feet of small bowel upstream. Leave your lovely friendly bacteria alone and eat a decent, fibre rich diet that includes lots of vegetable matter and water - spend money on good 'real' food rather than faddy nonsense.

AfterSchoolWorry · 22/01/2018 21:14

I think what you see coming out is your gut microbiome.

Which you need.

SusanBunch · 22/01/2018 21:14

I had one. Biggest waste of money ever and super-uncomfortable. I felt like I was about to puke because all the water was pushing on my stomach. I then left to go home and felt weak and dizzy and had the strongest sugar cravings ever to the extent that I decided to buy some haribos and eat them on the train on the way home. Noticed no improvement whatsoever in gut health or weight loss. So the verdict from me is no.

maggiecate · 22/01/2018 21:15

Don't do it. There is no scientific evidence for the claims that proponents of it claim and a considerable body of evidence for the risks. Eg
www.iffgd.org/diet-treatments/high-colonics.html
www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/expert-answers/colon-cleansing/faq-20058435
time.com/4437510/constipation-colon-cleanse-colonic/

If it was a suitable treatment for constipation you'd be able to get it on the NHS - it's cheap as chips, all you need is a hosepipe and some water!! The fact that you can't should tell you everything you need to know. You could end up making things much worse.

Nocabbageinmyeye · 22/01/2018 21:15

Same as Shocker, I had two, possibly three and all my bowel problems started after, I was fine before, now I have proctitis and colitis, again no medical evidence but I know myself it has something to do with them

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 22/01/2018 21:16

Crap idea. Pun intended.

SoupyNorman · 22/01/2018 21:18

This is quite a read, on colon cleansing.

KillDora · 22/01/2018 21:18

Oh you are the op who has also posted her diet.

You don't need to flush your bum out. You just need to start eating fruit/vegetables. Anything extra would be a improvement on your current diet.

HolyMountain · 22/01/2018 21:25

Have a tube stuck up my arse and then flush it out with warm water to remove old shit ???

No fucking chance.

HidingFromTheWorld · 22/01/2018 21:30

I also have annual colonoscopies and, other than feeling violated, battered and bruised, I feel no different.

I certainly wouldn’t voluntarily choose to stick a pipe up my arse for the reasons you describe. I can just about tolerate it for life saving surveillance procedures.

Perhaps address the causes behind the issues you’re having, rather than seeking a quick fix which could very well exacerbate your symptoms and send you straight to a gastroenterologist before you can say ‘ouch’.

Honeycombcrunch · 22/01/2018 21:41

Spend 80p on a tin of prunes instead.

You know the advice from all HCPs to drink water and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables? They're right - if you eat your 5 portions every day you won't be constipated.

Balaboosteh · 22/01/2018 22:00

I would like to offer some slightly different advice to the “lots of fruit and veg” idea. My digestion has been transformed by the use of more ‘live’ foods - by which I mean yoghurt products (actimel, yakult, keffir) . Also blue cheeses and Parmesan. Then also fermented foods - pickles basically, pickled cucumbers, cauliflower, beetroot, all sorts. Also plenty of fluid, drunk from a bottle rather than a glass to get the quantity. Finally, beetroot. Perfect for a good clear out. Oh and much more fresh protein - tin of sardines or boiled eggs for lunch. LiterAlly transformed. I am calmer and less anxious as a result.

Balaboosteh · 22/01/2018 22:02

Oh and sorry OP but your current diet is shocking!

Shouldnotwouldnot · 22/01/2018 22:03

hassled if you have undigested steak sitting around your colon you have serious issues. I mean come on, think about it.

Gilead · 22/01/2018 22:08

Another one that has regular colonoscopies, colonic irrigation is a nonsense.

T1M2N3T4 · 22/01/2018 22:51

I mis-read the thread as to want some colon cheese Confused

WhiteWalkersWife · 23/01/2018 00:53

Drink fennel tea, nettle tea and eat bran flakes. Also aside from diet sorting you may need help shifting the load at first. The GP can give movicol.

WhiteWalkersWife · 23/01/2018 00:54

My colonics felt great...and gave me awful haemarroids later. Drink herbal teas and get movicol.
