Please help settle an argument between me and dh

Bit of background We live in smallish house. 5 of us , 3 big teenagers, me and dh.Lots of washing as you can imagine. Husband has practical outside job, kids all Into out door activities. No tumble dryer and not getting one. Washing drys on radiators and airers at this time of year. Here's the problem Dh has an obsession with putting the airer in our bedroom. I hate with a passion having damp washing in our bedroom but he can't see the problem
Bedrooms should be a place to relax not be surrounded by wet clothing. I should add our room is really warm so does dry well but I really hate it. I set it up In the dining room. But he hates it been visible. Who is being unreasonable?

Can it be moved easily? So daytime, dry in your bedroom. But early evening move it to dining room and leave it there overnight?

I would use the room it drys quicker in.

Depends on the size of your rooms surely and where it is less of an obstruction

Ours is usually in the lounge because our lounge is big so it is less of an annoyance in there than anywhere else

I only put it in our bedroom if we have guests round

Is there upstairs hall space? We have a Kitchen Maid airer in the hall, hangs from the ceiling. It's visible, obviously, but you're only passing through the hall, not sitting in it.
I don't think it would be that healthy to have wet washing regularly hang in out in the bedroom.
I also think whoever is hanging out the washing gets the deciding vote!

We have a utility room too but it's small. Have suggested he takes out the wall cupboards and puts an over head airer. Your roo. Up narrow flight of stairs so couldn't easily move it round. We rarely have guests so it's not in the way in the dining room

Compromise: in the dining room if you're not having guests round, in your bedroom if you have guests

Neither of you. I'd hate both scenarios. I have two kids and i couldn't manage without my tumble dryer. I don't know how you do it.

Does it matter either way? "I hate it being visible" / "I hate it in the bedroom" Something's gonna have to give. Just whack it where it dries quickest, hardly the end of the world.

I'd be using the argument over it to push the utility room idea and get him to do the necessary work, problem solved

I just hate waking up to the sight of washing draped everywhere. We have a lovely room, with a new bed. Just want it to feel relaxing rather than a laundery

Can I ask why you won't consider a tumble drier?

I put washing to dry in my room, and haven't noticed the damp. My partner is dynastic too and fall sets him off, so it can't be a problem. But I guess the dynamics of different ruins do different things. Dors your bedroom seen damp, or is it the idea of it you don't like?

Could you maybe find a bit of research on Dr Google, which says you shouldn’t dry washing and sleep in the same room? I’m sure there would be something somewhere.

Maybe tell him the idea of laundry in your boudoir is off putting.....

Slightly off point but to at least speed things up get a dehumidifier. I've been using one to dry the laundry inside for 4 years now, just ordered a replacement yesterday as it happens.
Then at least it's out of the way quicker.

I am really pushing the utity idea. Just need to empty our wall cupboards and he has no excuse. Where the hell I'm going to store it all is another issue.
Our room never feels cold or damp. We have a log fired rayburn in the kitchen and we over directly over it with the tank in the corner of the room. We have the windows open most of the time. So it's not a health issue its just an eye sore to me

How about when he puts the clothes out to air he puts the drier where he likes, when you put the clothes out you put it where you like it.

The other advantage of the utility is the radiator is permanently on when the rayburn is running so would be perfect. Really need to find storage solution for the cupboards we are going to loose 😁

Would you be able to install one of these in your utility room to have airing capability and keep the cupboards? My mum had one in the kitchen when I was growing up and managed to wash and dry for a family of 10 without a tumble dryer or central heating.

We have a retractable washing line over the bath.
That way it doesn’t take any space, the room is warm enough that it dries quickly. And more importantly it’s not either in our bedroom or in the dining area (which would be our choice too)

I would get a tumble dryer . I know you say you aren’t but it would make your life so much easier and tidier.
