Bit of background We live in smallish house. 5 of us , 3 big teenagers, me and dh.Lots of washing as you can imagine. Husband has practical outside job, kids all Into out door activities. No tumble dryer and not getting one. Washing drys on radiators and airers at this time of year. Here's the problem Dh has an obsession with putting the airer in our bedroom. I hate with a passion having damp washing in our bedroom but he can't see the problem
Bedrooms should be a place to relax not be surrounded by wet clothing. I should add our room is really warm so does dry well but I really hate it. I set it up In the dining room. But he hates it been visible. Who is being unreasonable?

Easy way to sort argument.... Get a tumble drier! You seem to have the space and it costs 30p or so per load... If you need to economise to afford that I’d look I’d compromise in other areas.

Why is it that some people regard not having a tumble drier as a sign of virtue. They’re not exactly expensive to run and in terms of environmental benefits, they’re extremely marginal.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/01/2018 11:42

Agree Coconut , It's not as if once you own one you have to suddenly start using it for all your laundry

I resisted having one for years and now I have one I mainly just used it for bedding, towels etc in the winter months

I'll still always hang washing outside if the weather allows

VelvetSpoon · 13/01/2018 11:53

Surely the purpose of a utility room is for drying washing? Whether in a tumble dryer or on an airer. Although frankly I don't ununderstand people who don't have a tumble dryer in 2018. We've had one in our family since 1972 (not the same one I should add!)

Talulah99 · 14/01/2018 09:16

It’s not good for your health to dry clothes in your bedroom because of the moisture! I have to dry mine in the dining room. I have a washer/dryer but tend to use it for bed linen and towels only as it has a tendency to shrink things!

fatbottomgirl67 · 18/01/2018 08:51

I have many reasons for not getting a tumble drier and they are really not virtue
Cost of buying one, cost to run and we have no available floor space in utility to fit one. But the main one is we have solid fuel central heating. We burn logs 24/7 throughout the winter so our heating is always running. It's free for us to run so seems a bit crazy not to utilise the heat for drying clothes rather than the additional cost of a tumble drier.

Try www.pulleymaid.com changed my drying life

You said you were going to pull out some cupboards in the utility?

In all honesty most people’s response to your post would be ‘it seems a bit crazy not to run a tumble drier in 2017 regardless of heating being free to run’.

In a small house with 3 teens it’s bananas to dry your washing around the house, particularly when you hate the washing in the bedroom and DH hates the washing in the dining room. Very simple solution to that.

I can't sleep with clothes on an airer in my room either so I feel your pain op. I'm similar in that we don't have a dryer and additionally our radiators aren't accessible to hang stuff on. Consequently there is always washing on an airer hanging about.
In the day time it in our room-I move it to the landing at night. Could you do that?
I have a garage with electric. I'm considering getting one of those heated airers and putting it out there...
