Face planked... GP?

Really feeling very stupid. I was standing up a grass verge last night (sober) and didn't realise that one side was a vertical drop - the side we'd walked up was sloped. I stood off it face planked onto concrete.

Felt fine but now feel like I have the worst case of sinusitis ever. Have got a dentist appointment for tomorrow to get teeth cheeked out (they went into my lips). Basically, theres a small scrape on my nose and no bruising, but the pain is horrific.

Is it knobful to make a GP appointment as well?

(Also, if anyone has suggestions that will alleviate the pain please hit me with them).

Why do you even need to ask? Go and get seen

If you hit your head and you’re now in that much pain then I think you should go to A&E Sad head injuries need to be checked out.

HuskyMcClusky · 01/01/2018 14:54

Did your nose bleed?? Don’t you think you might have broken it?

Zube · 01/01/2018 14:55

No black eyes- a bit of swelling but no bruising.

I think A and E may be over kill with no bruising and I really don't want to go in and then be told I went in unecssarily.

I will make a GP appt. thank you!

No, no bleeding. Unsure if it's broken (does it feel like really bad sinisusitus?)

A broken nose is left alone , unless it's causing breathing problems , worth getting your teeth checked though. You poor thing Op. Flowers

Not sure, but I imagine it could; my mum broke her nose and didn’t know until many years later when she was having sinus problems. I think it can cause a crooked septum or some such thing.

Get it checked!

IrkThePurist · 01/01/2018 15:00

Go to A&E, you need an x ray. Good luck.

JohnHunter · 01/01/2018 15:04

Minor Injuries Unit - call 111 first if you aren't sure what's available and open locally. GPs don't see injuries often and your local MIU will be best placed to work out if anything further is needed. The queue will also likely be shorter than for A&E.

CremeFresh · 01/01/2018 15:06

We don't X-ray noses

Fundays12 · 01/01/2018 15:07

You need to get checked if it’s a head injury. I fell down my stairs ignored it till I couldn’t take the pain anymore hours later and it turned it I had broken 4 ribs in 2 places, had a lung puncture and broke my shoulder blade. Falls can be quite serious as I found out.

TatianaLarina · 01/01/2018 15:14

Never broken my nose (touch wood) so I don’t know, but are you sure you haven’t cracked a cheek bone?

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 01/01/2018 15:14

You need to go to the A&E imo. Or you could call 111 and ask what they’d recommend.

Head injuries should be taken very seriously and it sounds like you’re in a lot of pain.

TatianaLarina · 01/01/2018 15:16

I agree. Your GP will likely send you there anyway.

I think you need to check it’s only your nose that’s affected.

TheFairyCaravan · 01/01/2018 15:18

We don't X-ray noses

They did with mine and imo they would be looking at facial bone fractures with this rather than a broken nose.

You should go and get looked at OP Good luck.

mindutopia · 01/01/2018 15:20

If it's broken, unless it's popping through the skin or completely misshapen and you need reconstructive surgery, the treatment is painkillers, ice for swelling and time to heal. There's nothing the GP would do. I've broken my nose twice (well, my lovely dd as a baby smacked into my face and broke my nose twice!) and the NHS advice is to self-care at home. So unless you think it's serious enough you will need surgery, I wouldn't bother with the GP as they won't do more than tell you that.

ElsieMc · 01/01/2018 15:21

Oh dear op. Get seen asap. I broke my nose as child and my mum never got it looked at. It led to sinus problems, recurrent sinusitis which was awful and a routine op that went wrong and I was off work for months.

I walked away from a fall off a ladder from a garage roof two years back. Next morning I had the most awful black bruising all over my body. I felt very shocked but grateful it wasn't worse at my age (50 plus).

Sounds just awful op and I do hope you are okay. Let us know.

Ilikecheesycrackers · 01/01/2018 15:22

Possible to break maxilla (cheekbone) with an injury like this.

Minor injuries unit would assess whether you need an x-ray.

SlothMama · 01/01/2018 15:22

I'd go to A&E, I had a significant facial impact and left it to later find out I had a fractured skull and fucked up my sinuses!

Aragog · 01/01/2018 15:29

Many minor injuries units won't deal with injuries to the Head or face so check first what services your units offer.

lalalalyra · 01/01/2018 15:31

Don't assume no bruising means no injury. When I cracked my eye socket the bruising didn't appear for 2 days. Two weeks later I had belting black eyes.

StaplesCorner · 01/01/2018 15:32

I'd ring my local minor injuries who are very good and ask if they can see that sort of thing and then they'd say yes, or no you have to go to A&E; or you could even get an emergency GP appt tomorrow morning and get a form for x-ray, which in my area allows you to go straight to x-ray by-passing A&E and fracture clinic. You still have to wait with everyone else, but there's no faffing about as you have your x-ray form.

Still, as I say, that's all very well and good but it might not be offered like that in your area. 111 usually have a list of whats on offer or its on the website.

expatinscotland · 01/01/2018 15:36

I'd ring 111 due to the pain. I did the same thing when I tripped on a trail. I knew I'd broken my nose and I had a lot of scrapes, but I didn't bother going to the GP as I figured they couldn't do anything, anyway.
