Face planked... GP?

Really feeling very stupid. I was standing up a grass verge last night (sober) and didn't realise that one side was a vertical drop - the side we'd walked up was sloped. I stood off it face planked onto concrete.

Felt fine but now feel like I have the worst case of sinusitis ever. Have got a dentist appointment for tomorrow to get teeth cheeked out (they went into my lips). Basically, theres a small scrape on my nose and no bruising, but the pain is horrific.

Is it knobful to make a GP appointment as well?

(Also, if anyone has suggestions that will alleviate the pain please hit me with them).

Minor injuries is the most appropriate or accident (you've had one) &emergency.

Cindyloo99 · 01/01/2018 15:45

Oh no poor you ! I would get checked out hopefully it's just bruising etc

frieda909 · 01/01/2018 15:56

You have a head injury. There is swelling and you’re in a lot of pain. I mean this nicely but please stop being silly! Nobody is going to tell you that you went to A&E unnecessarily, I promise you. When I had First Aid training they told us that any knock to the head needed to be taken VERY seriously and that we should send people to A&E if in any doubt.

If you really aren’t convinced then do call 111 first but I’d be surprised if they don’t say the same thing.

tinydancer88 · 01/01/2018 15:56

It hasn't even been 24 hours so lack of bruising is not a reliable indication you've escaped unscathed.

I'd go to our minor injuries unit but if you don't have one of those locally I'd go to a&e as you would've hit your face/head quite hard by the sounds of it.

Zube · 01/01/2018 16:44

Thank you everyone - Im in A and E with a bloody lovely doctor and nurse team looking after me. I did explain that i felt like a dick because of the lack of bruising and the doctor explained that a lack of bruising may be good or bad.

Hope you feel better soon!

CremeFresh · 01/01/2018 16:49

We X ray facial bones if a fracture is suspected of the orbits etc but if it's just a fracture of the nose that's expected then it wouldn't be xrayed.

ScarlettDarling · 01/01/2018 16:50

You poor thing, what a shock you must have got. Glad you're getting seen.

Tistheseason17 · 01/01/2018 16:50

You've gone to the right place OP hope you are OK

Fairylea · 01/01/2018 16:52

You’ve done the right thing. I definitely would have said a and e.

Firefries · 01/01/2018 16:54

I know someone who haf a substantial outside fall and they then got up and went home but were in pain, didn't tell anyone. Next day they decided to go to A+E and an X-ray showed they had fractured their neck. After a stay in hospital and a brace for six weeks it healed up. I'd go and get this checked. No point playing it down as you never know.

Firefries · 01/01/2018 16:55

Good to see you're at A+E.

Foodylicious · 01/01/2018 16:56

Hope you get some decent pain relief soon and haven't hurt yourself too badly

Flashinggreen · 01/01/2018 16:58

The maxilla is the upper jaw, the cheek bone is the zygomatic arch.

Hope you’re ok OP.

bunnyrabbit93 · 01/01/2018 16:58

Maybe go to a minor injuries clinic

IrkThePurist · 01/01/2018 17:00

Glad to see you went to A&E, with that type of injury you're in the right place. Plus you'll get the better painkillers.

bunnyrabbit93 · 01/01/2018 17:00

spiderlight · 01/01/2018 17:09

X-rays are always taken from at least two angles no matter what part of the body it is and regardless of the severity of the fracture

Beltane18 · 01/01/2018 17:18

you poor thing! Flowers

I hope it all turns out okay. I came along to say please go along....just always best to check.

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 01/01/2018 17:24

I hope you’re alright / it’s nothing serious. And I’m so glad you want to the A&E.

lack of bruising may be good or bad.

Yep, things like that have happened to me rather often.
‘But I still managed to walk home and it doesn’t hurt that much.’

‘Well, that may be good or bad. Let’s have a look.’

froginapond · 01/01/2018 17:54

@Zube I hope you're OK, and not too hurt. Hope it isn't serious and you feel OK soon. Flowers

Oh and YANBU to go to A & E. As a pp said, I have also heard extreme cases of people leaving it, and finding out many months later that they had a broken neck or something. And it was never right again, because it wasn't sorted at the time.

All the best. Hope you're OK soon... Smile
