Just why?! Can anyone explain to me exactly what he has done to deserve it?

Nothing

Student tuition fees anyone?

The most undeserved knighthood ever.

x2boys · 30/12/2017 18:24

Does any of them deserve It?

TwitterQueen1 · 30/12/2017 18:25

I've been doing my job for 5 years. I feel I deserve to be Lady TQ. Hmm

RavingRoo · 30/12/2017 18:25

None of the politicians deserve them. It’s just a political machination. This is why MPs should be barred from the honours list - it cheapens them.

SilverySurfer · 30/12/2017 18:25

He'a a total drip and not worthy of a knighthood.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 30/12/2017 18:25

Free school meals. Which actually made a noticeable difference to a lot of young families budgets.

And he was a good local MP.

x2boys · 30/12/2017 18:26

I would give you s knight hood Twitter ! Unfortunately I'm not in charge Hmm

Eltonjohnssyrup · 30/12/2017 18:27

He was actually in Sheffield loads even when deputy PM.

He is one of very few politicians I actually believe genuinely cared. And I am a right of centre Brexiteer with no need to love him.

x2boys · 30/12/2017 18:29

Meh Elton there are a lot of good local MP ,s and the universal school meal was very controversial (it was good for is howevet)

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 30/12/2017 18:33

I think NC probably did a fair bit behind the scenes to temper the worst instincts of the Tories in the coalition govt. Unfortunately for him, history will only remember him chucking away his key policy to gain power.

Imo no one deserves a knighthood for doing their job or fulfilling their own personal ambitions (Darcey Bussell and Barry Gibb for ex). I'm not convinced that getting rich, doing what you love, means you deserve special recognition. Ot should be saved for outstanding acts of bravery or doing something slamazing for someone else, when there was nothing in it for you.

LoniceraJaponica · 30/12/2017 18:40

I agree IWannaSee
The two people I personally know who have received honours fully deserved them. One was a teacher at DD's school who fully deserved it. Another was someone at work who has raised over £100,000 for charity.

Spangles1963 · 30/12/2017 18:46

What has annoyed me is that no one who was involved in helping at any of the terrorist attacks,or the Grenfell Tower fire, have been given any recognition. There seems to be a disproportionate number of awards given to MPs.

@Spangles1963 The honours list nominations were handed in back in March, before the awful Grenfell fire or terrorist attacks. We should see any recognition for there amazing people next year.

snurfflepots · 30/12/2017 20:43

These even... sausage fingers and a touchscreen don't go hand in hand Blush

TheweewitchRoz · 30/12/2017 20:46

It's a joke - no way should he be knighted.

LizzieSiddal · 30/12/2017 20:48

I’d rather he got one than Cameron or Blair.

BackHome · 30/12/2017 20:49

It's crazy. A knighthood for what exactly? Mad world! Xmas Hmm

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/12/2017 20:59

Thing about the tuition fees though.
He could make any promises he wanted to.. He knew he was never going to be British Prime minister..

I think he fucked him self up with the British public by making out he cared about the welfare of the poor and then he joined forces with the tories.
I definitely do know why he's got a knight hood. What has done that is heroic.
Who gives out these knighthoods. Is it a case of it doesn't suck itself. If you get my meaning.

phlebasconsidered · 30/12/2017 21:13

We don't need any knighthoods. Certainly not for cheaty sneaky bumheads.

So he gets a lovely reward for not really doing his job and lying a lot. My lovely retired ex headmistress at my last school (I'm a teacher), who works tirelessly, still, to provide advice and support about benefits, debt control and legal advice and doles out food parcels to people, on top of supporting thousands of children in our rural community for over 40 years, gets a pension and not much else.

Give rewards to real public servants. Nurses, carers, police, fire fighters, ambulance workers, teachers, support workers, people who genuinely save and help others. The old bloke who makes and distributes free preserves and pickles in our village for nothing, and leaves his extra eggs out for people does more than Clegg. The lady who organises our free uniform and clothing and toy swap in school does more than Clegg. The teachers who bring in extra snacks for kids who live in low income households and cant get fsm but are hungry, still, do more than Clegg. The parents who drop extra snacks and sanitary products into our gift box at school (yes, at primary we still need them!) do more than Clegg. You see where I'm going with this. I'm actually too cross to be coherent, sorry.

LegallyBrunet · 30/12/2017 22:20

Obviously his knighthood is for raising tuition fees... Angry

Nettletheelf · 30/12/2017 22:23

I like him. There are many, many worse politicians than Nick Clegg.

thegreatbeyond · 30/12/2017 22:25

He wrote a book about stopping Brexit, or something.

Bourdic · 30/12/2017 22:28

The whole honours system is a pathetic undemocratic unutterable patronising load of crap that is beyond any redemption.

MissEliza · 30/12/2017 22:30

It's bollocks. Lots of public servants work tirelessly to make a difference and get bugger all recognition. Maybe they shouldn't as they're doing their job but it really pisses me off to see Eamon Holmes get an OBE for services to television. That's his bloody job! He's money and fame for that! Grrrrr.
