To serve a massive sausage roll for dinner?

DM and her husband are coming for dinner with me, ExDP and DS.

I have a massive m&s Yule sausage roll (like basically a sausagemeat Wellington) that needs eating today. Serves 8.

WIBU to serve this with mashed potatoes and green veg for dinner? Or is that grim? It looks very delicious- but effectively it is just an oversized sausage roll such as you
might sneakily eat from greggs and hope you don't bump into anyone you know midway through it.

I will make a chocolate fondant for after, if that redeems it, at all....

If someone is coming for a meal then they get what’s offered in my book! Sounds lovely anyway!

gunsandbanjos · 29/12/2017 10:15

Bash on, sounds fine to me.

HardAsSnails · 29/12/2017 10:15

Sounds lovely.

Sausage meat roly poly is a family fave here!

Bridechilla · 29/12/2017 10:16

Similar thing is served in our work canteen with mash and baked beans Grin

Allthetuppences · 29/12/2017 10:17

Sounds good. I make a huge sausagemeat/ cranberry sauce roll thing for new years parties when we have one. It goes pretty quick.

Ceebs85 · 29/12/2017 10:17

Sounds yummy. As long as there's gravy!

They'll get what they're given anyway!

Nquartz · 29/12/2017 10:18

Go for it, sounds tasty

Nquartz · 29/12/2017 10:18

Agree you definitely need oodles of gravy

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/12/2017 10:19

I make that sometimes, it's delicious

naturalnursery · 29/12/2017 10:19

I love sausage rolls so sounds delicious.

Candlelight234 · 29/12/2017 10:20

Thumbs up from me

PaperdollCartoon · 29/12/2017 10:21

I don’t even eat meat and that sounds good to me. Definitely gravy though.

nutnerk · 29/12/2017 10:27

I disagree - I would laugh in the car on the way home if someone served me a sausage roll for dinner. Could you just make the whole thing a bit like a buffet and serve other buffet style food too?

thelastredwinegum · 29/12/2017 10:27

Room for a little un OP?

Gilead · 29/12/2017 10:31

You've just reminded me that I have the Aldi version of that in the freezer. That's tonights tea sorted!

QueenNefertitty · 29/12/2017 10:32

@nutnerk

I was going to do a big old beige buffet (you know vol au vents/ everything in filo pastry/ sandwiches etc) with the sausage roll as an element thereof- but ExDP has requested no buffet, as we had Boxing Day buffet and NYE is traditionally a buffet night- and he's sick of buffet (ungrateful bastard- only one reason were no longer together Wink

Do I brazen it out and offer up the sausage roll as "pork Wellington", or go buy a chicken or something, and offer sauasage roll appetiser (it DOES need eating) .... ??

Wish I'd never bought the bloody thing now!

Sod it

They're getting sausage roll main and they can like it or lump it.

Gravy a given.

Sounds delicious -so much is in the presentation, anyway. Put it on a nice plate, garnish it with something - sprig of parsley or slices of tomato - bring it in with a flourish and place it in the middle of the table, gravy in a nice wee jug. Yum!

Blonde0nBlonde · 29/12/2017 10:34

Can you freeze it? If not, go for it, what’s the worst that can happen?

LadyPenelope68 · 29/12/2017 10:35

Go for it! Apart from one poster, everyone has said it! Don’t try and hide it as pork wellington either!

onalongsabbatical · 29/12/2017 10:36

Def go with it being pork Wellington - who would have the bottle to argue with that? Grin

CassandraCross · 29/12/2017 10:36

Serve it as you originally suggested, OP, sounds lovely - stop doubting yourself.

MsHarry · 29/12/2017 10:37

Absolutely, sounds tasty, unless they are Muslim, Jewish or vegetarian!

supersop60 · 29/12/2017 10:38

Go for it. Sounds great!
