To serve a massive sausage roll for dinner?

DM and her husband are coming for dinner with me, ExDP and DS.

I have a massive m&s Yule sausage roll (like basically a sausagemeat Wellington) that needs eating today. Serves 8.

WIBU to serve this with mashed potatoes and green veg for dinner? Or is that grim? It looks very delicious- but effectively it is just an oversized sausage roll such as you
might sneakily eat from greggs and hope you don't bump into anyone you know midway through it.

I will make a chocolate fondant for after, if that redeems it, at all....

DM used to make a sausage meat plait. Same thing!

I remember making sausage plait in Home Economics, back in the dark ages. It was lovely and became a regular meal at home afterwards.

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 29/12/2017 11:03

Serve it. :)

Does it sound nice? Bit weird but not too bad, I guess. But that doesn’t even matter (imo). They’re your guests. And wether you serve the massive sausage roll or something else (like that buffet)... they get to be food snobs when they’re the ones cooking.

ElephantsandTigers · 29/12/2017 11:07

Given that your ex is trying to dictate I'd be tempted to do the buffet but really, the roll with mash etc sounds better.

I've just made an enormous sausage roll but we are having other bits too. Third buffet lunch this week. Don't care.

CiderwithBuda · 29/12/2017 11:08

Sounds yum. And I have sausagemeat. And I have puff pastry. Might do that myself.

BattleaxeGalactica · 29/12/2017 11:12

It's a free meal and they're not having to cook it.

What's not to like?

moita · 29/12/2017 11:12

Yes ny first thought was sausage plait - yummy.

Go for it OP. I'd love this with gravy and chutney.

disappearingninepatch · 29/12/2017 11:14

TonTonMacoute, I think we must have gone to the same school. Sausage plait was the first thing we made in Home Ec. I still use some of the recipes from school now. My DC never made anything useful.

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 29/12/2017 11:15

Sounds lovely. Glaze it with some chutney maybe? Give it an edge!

seafooodplatter · 29/12/2017 11:44

I wouldn't want a guest who would laugh at my food on the way home. Ungrateful!

Serve it. They can like it or lump it Grin

Nikephorus · 29/12/2017 12:19

It's basically sausage and mash, but with added pastry. How could anyone not fancy that? What time should we pop round?

rainbowoldtrout · 29/12/2017 12:22

Someone cook something for me please. No one eats here unless I cook it.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 29/12/2017 12:27

Trout I know... Am the same. Last time someone cooked something for me was 2010...

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 29/12/2017 12:28

Shall we go round to the OP's Grin It does serve 10 apparently Grin

ShowMePotatoSalad · 29/12/2017 12:30

That sounds yum

HolgerDanske · 29/12/2017 12:31

I hope they have it at my local M&S, I really want this for dinner today!

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/12/2017 12:32

It's sausage Plait that I make tooGrin

UnicornRainbowColours · 29/12/2017 12:32

Sounds lovely I want some!!

IMissGin · 29/12/2017 12:33

Thank you OP! I have a sausage roll garland from M&S and now having this for tea tonight- great idea 💡

ShowMePotatoSalad · 29/12/2017 12:37

IHaveBrilloHair

Any chance of a recipe? Grin

TheEmmaDilemma · 29/12/2017 12:41

I'd be happy with that. Very nice.

Notso · 29/12/2017 12:58

We have it often, big sausage roll with mash, veg and onion gravy. I usually make a pork and leek one but have done pork, chestnut and cranberry at Christmas before.

PinkHeart5914 · 29/12/2017 13:00

I’d love that for dinner, but then I do love a sausage especially if it’s in pastry Smile

peachypips · 29/12/2017 13:21

I’d love it! Yum!

JesusTapdancingChrist · 29/12/2017 13:26

Is this it OP?

Sounds and looks delicious!

Although, tbf, you could wrap a partially decomposed, scabby rat in puff pastry and I'd eat it.

jesus that looks yummy - I was thinking it be an oversized roll with slashed pastry. But if that is it op I would present to the table and serve with lots of buttery mash, green veg and gravy. Yum!
