NYE dullardery

What are you doing on NYE?
I would much rather sit at home with a takeaway and nice bottle of wine, a good DVD and DP (not necessarily in that order)!
Instead we're going to a friend of DPs for a dull evening hanging around their kitchen while they talk about holidays they all enjoyed with DP and his ex wife!! I'm dreading it and can already feel the headache coming on.

I hate NYE and always have. DH feels the same. We always used to volunteer to work. Now I'm not working he will be away at work and I'll be doing what you describe as your ideal NYE. Can you get out of it?

Rockandrollwithit · 28/12/2017 18:06

I'm staying in. I have a three month old who is a terrible sleeper so I won't even stay up for midnight. Got to get sleep whenever I can!

nancy75 · 28/12/2017 18:07

I’ll be home with dd. Dp runs a pub so we haven’t been out on NYE for years as he’s always at work. Can’t say I miss going out. Dd & I will watch a movie, eat loads of food & go to bed 10 minutes after the fireworks.
I would suggest you throw a sickie & have a night on the sofa

PinkHeart5914 · 28/12/2017 18:07

We have some friends coming over.

Dh will cook duck and we will have that with pancakes, cake/snack bits will be around as well plus Plenty of champagne & vodka 🍾🥂 Grin

Friends dc can sleep in with ours for the night

Boxingdaydisappoints · 28/12/2017 18:08

DP wants to go and if I pull out he's likely to be silently annoyed. He'd probably go anyway. I'm very envious of your plans, have a lovely evening!

This is why alcohol was invented - to get through boring visits to people's houses.

MissingPanda · 28/12/2017 18:10

I'm working.

BestIsWest · 28/12/2017 18:10

Cinema, curry then home for the Hootenanny.

I’ve worked or been on call overnight for the last 6 NYEs so looking forward to having one off.

nancy75 · 28/12/2017 18:11

Yes, get so outrageously drunk that you never get invited round again!

Boxingdaydisappoints · 28/12/2017 18:12

I think I'd rather be working. Their house is always freezing too. Apparently I'm supposed to be grateful they've invited us. Oops!

Nye is fuckin awful.
I've celebrated it in 4 different countries and it was a bit shit no matter where I located myself.
Loathe it.

annandale · 28/12/2017 18:13

Text them and say your NYR is to 'spice up our marriage - hint hint' and hope they scramble to disinvite you.

[not really]

Chienrouge · 28/12/2017 18:14

At home with steak, chips, a bottle of red wine and a DVD.

Chienrouge · 28/12/2017 18:14

(And DH)

PenguinDi · 28/12/2017 18:14

I don't do NYE, same shit different day to me. I'm having a movie night in with the pooch as DH is working.

RaeSkywalker · 28/12/2017 18:15

We’re staying in- mainly because we have DS(1). But I hate New Years anyway, and staying at home with DH has been standard for many years now. Last year we were in bed by 10- I expect that this year will be the same!

Boxingdaydisappoints · 28/12/2017 18:16

I'm so glad I'm not the only NYE hater. I'm always so relieved on NYD that it's over, the nights start to get lighter and spring is round the corner. Fuck NYE and it's nibbles and that tune!!! Oh and the bagpipes! Hate it all.

I8toys · 28/12/2017 18:18

I'm actually excited about NYE this year. We usually do a crawl around friends houses but this year we are going to Birmingham!! Woo Hoo! Start off with star wars at Everyman Cinema at the Mailbox and then Blue Man Group show at ICC and then back to hotel to play games all night with kids. No hosting or prep - wonderful!

Floellabumbags · 28/12/2017 18:20

Oh god, can't he get some new friends? Sounds dull as arses. I'll be in the house playing board games with the kids and DH. Suits me fine.

Glitteryfrog · 28/12/2017 18:20

I like NYE.
But we're going on holiday on 1st Jan so I'll be in an airport hotel.

Ruffian · 28/12/2017 18:22

Let him be silently annoyed then. If he'll go anyway just let him get on with it - they sound a bit excluding going on about stuff that you weren't a part of. He can enjoy his night and you can enjoy yours in your own way.

Eliza9917 · 28/12/2017 18:23

We're staying in, m&s meal deal or an Indian takeaway, few drinks, tv and that's it, might watch the fireworks on the telly.

Rainbowmother · 28/12/2017 18:23

Can you be "ill" ?

catography · 28/12/2017 18:24

After four years of both pretending to love going out out in central London, DP and I have finally admitted to each other we both hate NYE, so we've booked an Airbnb near the sea and are going to get fish and chips and have champers on the beach then head to bed for an early night. No more 1st Jan hangovers for us!

Ijustlovefood · 28/12/2017 18:25

My 2 dc are 3 & 6. We will be staying in and I will be going to bed early to get as much sleep as I can.
