NYE dullardery

What are you doing on NYE?
I would much rather sit at home with a takeaway and nice bottle of wine, a good DVD and DP (not necessarily in that order)!
Instead we're going to a friend of DPs for a dull evening hanging around their kitchen while they talk about holidays they all enjoyed with DP and his ex wife!! I'm dreading it and can already feel the headache coming on.

Catography - that sounds wonderful. May look at that for next year!!

Allthetuppences · 28/12/2017 18:26

Husband is away. Daughters are at their dads. Everyone asking if I need company. Bollocks to that! Well I ammore gracious in person.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 28/12/2017 18:27

I enjoy NYE, but I haven't always. The problem with it is you absolutely can't "pop in for an hour or two".
No, whatever it is you do, you're generally stuck there for the night while the clock interminably ticks slowly down... tick.......... tock............... tick.................. tock. On no, still only half-past-nine.....

DrKrogersfavouritepatient · 28/12/2017 18:32

We are committed to seeing friends.
But i would much rather be at home and chill out with some tv and a takeaway
I think ill volunteer to drive and try to leave early

Chattymummyhere · 28/12/2017 19:01

We shall be putting the disco lights on and some music with nibbles for the children to enjoy and see if they can make it till midnight Wine

I did New Years at the in laws a few times and I’ve never been so bored and tired in my life.

CoffeebyIV · 28/12/2017 19:10

I’m so fed up of NYE. So this year I have refused any talk of it other than to agree with DP that we will stay in with some nice food and a box set.

19lottie82 · 28/12/2017 19:14

Staying in hopefully sleeping by midnight! I am meeting a few friends for a couple of afternoon drinks on the 1st tho!

Boxingdaydisappoints · 28/12/2017 19:15

To top it off I can't even drink myself into numbness as we live very rural and they're about half an hour away. You can't get a taxi around here at the best of times. Fake illness is looking appealing.

We stopped doing anything about 8 years ago - it's bliss.

Easy food, some fizzy booze and boardgames just the two of us. I'm 32 weeks pregnant so no fizz this year and probably sleeping well in advance of midnight.

Twitchingdog · 28/12/2017 19:22

Is there any one you can baby sit for ...

DrKrogersfavouritepatient · 28/12/2017 19:25

Make him drive. You Do this by starting to drink around 2pm

DrKrogersfavouritepatient · 28/12/2017 19:26

Fake illness is defo a good idea,

halfwitpicker · 28/12/2017 19:28

I freaking hate nye.

We'll get a takeaway, kids in bed, wine and TV.

HemanOrSheRa · 28/12/2017 19:28

I HATE NYE and NYD. So depressing. There's this great build up like something magical is going to happen, the clock strikes 12....nothing. Big fat zero. Everything is EXACTLY the same Grin. Except for the fireworks which go off for HOURS after midnight, scaring my little dog. So I can't get an early night either. Load of old shite Grin.

Nikephorus · 28/12/2017 19:30

Just make sure you start the fake illness in plenty of time so it looks less suspicious. Preferably the day before but don't mention cancelling your lovely evening out until the relatively last minute.

halfwitpicker · 28/12/2017 19:30

I've had NYE in Melbourne, Whistler, Accrington and Edinburgh.

Always shit.

Not a stealth boast, just saying it's shit even if you're somewhere fab.

ClashCityRocker · 28/12/2017 19:30

Nye is only fun if you're fifteen years old and have a decent chance of smuggling some illicit booze and copping off with Gaz from lower sixth at midnight.

We will be getting a takeaway, having a few drinks and watching songs on YouTube.....which is a pretty typical Friday night for us.

BangPippleGo · 28/12/2017 19:32

I hate going out on NYE. We used to go to family parties when we were kids, but since then I prefer to stay in. The past couple of years we have gone to a friend's for a quiet night in with a film, wine and takeaway which is perfect.

goldengimbas · 28/12/2017 19:32

I would start mentioning you have a sore throat tomorrow OP. Set the scene.
I hate New Years Eve and will be in bed with ear plugs in

WeddingsAreStressful · 28/12/2017 19:33

Going out. Booked a restaurant together with 3 other couples that has live music and overlooks the town square where the fireworks are. Bought a new dress for it today!!

Crunchymum · 28/12/2017 19:41

Take away and film. Hopefully stay up for the bells. I'm 35w pregnant.

Maelstrop · 28/12/2017 19:42

Jesus, how incredibly dull. I think they’re incredibly rude to talk about the holidays enjoyed with the ex-wife. Are you brave enough to either challenge them on their extreme rudeness or alternatively, head tilt, tinkly laugh and ‘Oh Janet, how boring to talk about this again.’

Why does your DP allow them to do this to you? Mine would have the sensitivity to tell them to shut up, politely but firmly.

I’m going to be home alone with the dog, DH is working, poor sod. Going to be dealing with all the charming drunks.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 28/12/2017 20:21

It's utter bullshit. We shall be sat at home, quaffing wine like we do most nights.

PNGirl · 28/12/2017 20:23

Bottle of champagne, curry, husband, film. We might go to the cinema in the afternoon.

BarbarianMum · 28/12/2017 20:29

Usually we go to BiL's New Years party which is - OK. This year I'm rebelling and we are going to the cinema to see Star Wars, followed by an evening in front of the telly w a bottle of wine. Might not even stay up til midnight!
