Has anyone got a bargain in the post Christmas sales?

DH and I went for a drive out yesterday after four full on days of family and a hot hot house. Thought we'd go to a little shopping area with Next, Asda, Mothercare etc... as the kids need kitting out.

Braved Next and it was shocking. Absolutely nothing there. I don't know whether we were too late but I was surprised about the lack of decent sale items anywhere.

So has anyone managed to buy anything half decent?? And if so, where from?!

Next tend to have old stock out in Sales in my Experience. I also know of people who queue for the sale and buy sackfulls of clothing and sell on ebay/gumtree.

MikeUniformMike · 28/12/2017 14:12

Saw loads of nice stuff on Saturday that was reduced.
Yesterday I saw lots of things like party dresses, summer stock and xmas gifts - i.e. unwanted shite. It wasn't the same high street or shops though.

Cadsuane · 28/12/2017 14:17

Got Dd1 a dress for her sixth year prom for £60. We weren't looking for anything else.

Maelstrop · 28/12/2017 14:20

Gorgeous warm cuddly jumper for lazy days at home from Asda, half price. eBay has a 20% discount up to £75 for all members-PNY2018-until 6pm today. DH just got new walking trainers.

I’m tempted to meander round TXMaxx just so I’m not doing nothing now DH has gone to work.

aintnothinbutagstring · 28/12/2017 14:21

Half price school shoes from John Lewis, not very exciting but well needed! Sometimes I pick up kids coats from Boden in Jan but they don't need new coats just yet.

MikeUniformMike · 28/12/2017 14:21

That's a bargain Cad. I went into a particularly crap branch of a dept store but the party dresses didn't look to bad. Was somewhere a bit more high end on Saturday and there was really nice stuff up to 50% off.

RaindropsAndSparkles · 28/12/2017 14:29

Yep: All my wrapping paper, crackers and Xmas tea lights for next year. All for £9. Oh and three things for dd's stocking next year. £5 instead of £17.50.

Clothes and stuff. Unless anything catches my eye I'll wait for spring stock.

Summerisdone · 28/12/2017 14:30

I got DS a pair of boots, a pair of jeans and a couple tops, and I got myself a fire stick.

I’ve been wanting a fire stick and looking at boots for DS for a while now anyway, so getting them in sale made sense, also he didn’t need the clothes but they were lovely and I’d have probably bought them even if they were full price

redmarkone · 28/12/2017 14:31

i did but on line and they have not arrived yet so im not sure! i took a quick 30 minutes to online shop on christmas day and boxing day

i shopped at john lewis and got french connection striped thick t shirts for £12 and £15 instead of £30.

i bought a warehouse polo neck for £15 instead of £28.

i also bought loads of stuff to try from asos, boots that i was going to buy on the 19th december at £30 were £12 on 24th december. i also ordered a "duster" coat that was £50 down to £25.

i never shop at next in the christmas sales as the stuff looks ancient!

Kingsclerelass · 28/12/2017 14:32

Gorgeous bath robe, half price - but you're right, not much unless you buy Xmas cards now for next year. Grin

cakesandphotos · 28/12/2017 14:38

I got some bits for my baby to wear next Christmas, way cheaper than before Christmas! Baby isn’t even here yet so I’m feeling pretty organised! Got some bits from Kite clothing and M&S too

44PumpLane · 28/12/2017 14:51

I got the Urban Decay Naked3 eyeshadow pallet with 30% off on Debenhams online.

I would have bought it full price so to get 30% off is indeed a bargain in my eyes.

Nothing else though as I can't stand sale shopping (I can't stand shopping in general though)! I wish I enjoyed it!!

ThePinkOcelot · 28/12/2017 14:56

I’ve bought a new wok, reduced from £30 to £15 so I’m happy!

TheCygnet · 28/12/2017 14:57

Mostly stuff for DS with a top and a dress for me (that probably won't fit as I'm an odd shape and find buying clothes difficult lol), birthday presents for a January birthday and some small stocking fillers for next Christmas. I bought everything online from Kite, John Lewis, M&S, Mothercare, Debenhams, Frugi, Land's End and Next. Only the Kite things have arrived so far and having typed that list out I realise how swamped in children's clothing I will soon be Blush

Drinaballerina · 28/12/2017 14:59

We got a new Christmas tree, marked down from £500 to £100, v. Happy with that!

Littlelambpeep · 28/12/2017 14:59

We got a 50 inch TV with a huge mark down - a bit like you, we took the DC to a play centre and went shopping. We were saving and we got it at much less so went for it.

DumbledoresArmy · 28/12/2017 15:02

I ordered DS some vans £16.00 from £32.00! Chuffed as they're checkerboard design too!

MaisyPops · 28/12/2017 15:04

We've been looking for some white goods for our house and it's been rubbish.
'Sale' prices are 10% off an inflated price that was featured in 13 stores from November 1st-December 13th etc.

Instead of having proper January sales, it feels like what actually happens is stores are just ramping up normal prices and then having crappy 'sale events' with 10% off for around half the year.

TheCygnet · 28/12/2017 16:34

Would have put this in my previous post if I'd thought of it, but Kite have a 50% off sale on at the moment (organic baby/children's clothing) and if you mention my name at the checkout you will get a further 20% off. If anyone is interested just PM me. Maybe someone can get a bargain! If you have a giant child like me it's handy because they go up to 2-3 years in sleepsuits.

MrGrumpy01 · 28/12/2017 16:47

Not been anywhere, though I am hoping to get a game for ds that he wants for his birthday in a few weeks that is reduced in The Entertainer.

We are moving so don't want to buy stuff to put away for next year.

wendz86 · 28/12/2017 16:52

Got dd1 a new coat in next £16 down from £33. Got dd2 a Christmas jumper for next year for £6 and some jeans .
Got two rolls of wrapping paper for 50p each in Sainsbury’s today .

Strummerville · 28/12/2017 17:09

Yes, but all online.

Fluffy-lined dressing gown from Joules, not yet arrived
Joseph Seibel leather boots from John Lewis, not yet arrived
Chunky wool cardigan from Cos, arrived today and I absolutely love it
Cunky snowflake jumper from Olive, not yet arrived

cloudyweewee · 28/12/2017 17:15

As a child in the 70s I remember a local news programme interviewing a bloke who'd spent 3 days in a tent outside a shop so he'd be first through the door for the January sale. He was after a TV for a quid! Sales just ain't what they used to be!

Maelstrop · 28/12/2017 17:17

Oh dear, trip to TK Maxx was fruitful! Gorgeous wool coat, pink patterned swirly with grey, extremely cheap. Just my size. Whoops. I feel justified because I’m returning some trousers to an online company due to them being too short. Blush

fantasmasgoria1 · 28/12/2017 17:19

Got some make up palettes I wanted before Christmas but waited until half price and some toiletry sets!
