Has anyone got a bargain in the post Christmas sales?

DH and I went for a drive out yesterday after four full on days of family and a hot hot house. Thought we'd go to a little shopping area with Next, Asda, Mothercare etc... as the kids need kitting out.

Braved Next and it was shocking. Absolutely nothing there. I don't know whether we were too late but I was surprised about the lack of decent sale items anywhere.

So has anyone managed to buy anything half decent?? And if so, where from?!

Got loads of half price clothes for 3yr old DD in Boots yesterday ready for next winter.

Stocked up the gift cupboard for birthdays and stuff throughout the yr too, WH Smith today was great today, all their gadget shop gifts were 75% off so got a popcorn make for £4.50, 3d wooden animal puzzles for £1.39 each and more stuff like that. Spent £12.45 in there and got 6 good gifts.

Not me but DD bought a shed load of clothes for her baby from Zara at half price or less He's just grown out of his current size so these were needed

A swing in IKEA for £17.10. It’s fabulous. Now I just need somewhere to put it...

MinesaPinot · 28/12/2017 17:33

Me and DH went today. We were going to go up to London but couldn't be bothered so just went to our nearby town. DH got a Superdry quilted jacket for £55, originally £109, and I got a long-sleeved top for £18.99 instead of £26.99. I also got a dress in M & S for £9.50 instead of £19, and Christmas cards, gift bags and a calendar for work in Clintons which were all 50% off. And a couple of No. 7 gift sets for half price in Boots. However I could not believe the tat that was in Next! It looked as though they had dragged out a load of old stock.

I may or may not have just been looking at a Russell & Bromley bag online in their sale......!

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 28/12/2017 17:34

Got some bits from the elc to put away for dds birthday
Play dough cutters £1.50 from £5
Play dough eyes/arms etc £1.50 from £6
Paint your own tea set £4 from £14
Helmet and elbow/knee pad set £6 from £20

I wanted to find a balance bike to put away but can’t find any with much of a saving so will hang on.
Not huge savings but it all helps and made me feel all organised for a bit.

LemonShark · 28/12/2017 17:34

44PumpLane I got that too! Love it.

Also bought the urban decay vice metal meets matte lip palette for £20 (bargain), a couple of the large Yankee candles for a tenner each from boots, and a few jumpers for a fiver each from Asda for OH.

Wouldn't dare trying to buy myself clothes in the sales, really could not be arsed trying them on and wouldn't buy without doing so!

M&S were shut Boxing Day. Had a lot of respect for that and how those staff got the day off.

Hellywelly10 · 28/12/2017 17:39

Bought nothing but did see some good make up sets in boots.

Doobydoo · 28/12/2017 17:39

A Food Processor......had my eyes on for a while. Few bits for ds2 from Boden.I think Next is pretty shite.....well for boys anyway.

AuntMabel · 28/12/2017 17:42

My local Waitrose were selling their posh boxed biscuits reduced to £1 from £5. Free coffee to dunk them in as well. Best kind of bargain IMO.

I bought a bed frame from eBay today as an offer popped up on my app - 20% off everything with code PNY2018 until 6pm.

BrutusMcDogface · 28/12/2017 17:44

I've bought lots of stuff online- mainly maternity stuff from gap, mothercare and next!

Theyhaveallbeenused2 · 28/12/2017 17:48

I done my sake shopping online..joys of rural living and poorly toddler. But I have bagged my self shoes and a dress for my sister's wedding. Although the dress may need to go back as there is a hint of white and she didn't look roo impressed.

babybobobear · 28/12/2017 17:53

Are any sales actually real sales anymore or just prices being inflated for a month before and then bought back to their normal price?? That's what it always seems to be on currys, Argos etc. I want a new washing machine but don't know if the 'sale' items are worth it iyswim

SloanePeterson · 28/12/2017 17:59

I was pleasantly surprised by Lush today. I've never been able tag et anything in the sale as they tend to sell out online in minutes but this year they've not done an online sale. I strolled down with ds this afternoon and they had mountains of stuff left and we stocked up which made him very happy. I was thoroughly unimpressed by all the other places we looked, I think Black Friday has changed sale shopping for good.

LemonShark · 28/12/2017 17:59

babybobobear Yeah you definitely have to be careful. For example I decided the Yankee was fine for a tenner as they're normally a lot more and tend to have a fairly stable RRP other than flash sales of one scent. I'd never spend the full £22 on a large one but I love them so two for £20 was fine by me.

But I do feel so bad, feel bad for my OH who bought me a lovely massive gift set from boots (a very well chosen one might I add, not just some random tat) which cost £60: a day later seeing it for £30 makes me wish he'd just given me £30 and a picture of it for us to go get Boxing Day! It seems ridiculous to throw away all of that money just to have it on a set day.

I guess boots and consumers compromise with their 3 for 2 before xmas. Consumers accept they're spending over the odds compared to Boxing Day but are placated with a 'free' item. So knowing the product must cost way less than half the RRP to create and stock burns a little less as you didn't pay full RRP to start with. Also means they shift loads of stock!

Can you tell I think about this stuff a lot haha

Toomanycats99 · 28/12/2017 18:01

Got a pair of half price velvet converse for my dd plus half price Adidas superstars for me. Both were wanted anyway.

Also the 20% off eBay came at the perfect moment as had to order something for my dd and saved £7!!!

19lottie82 · 28/12/2017 18:02

I got an under armour gym t shirt and leggings for £39 in their sale. Just over half price.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 28/12/2017 18:09

user1471443504 · 28/12/2017 18:17

Next year's Christmas sweaters and long sleeved tops for the kids. I begrudge paying full price when they only wear them in December.

I got stuff before Christmas from Matalan for the kids and a few bits after. Things like pjs.

I don't think the January and summer sales are all that any more as most places do reductions quite consistently throughout the year.

I often use sites like Tesco direct for my white goods as I can get Clubcard points too and I often find a discount code.
I bought my washing machine during the middle of the year as the old one broke and I got 10% off with a discount code and that particular one, which I wanted, had an extra 5000 Clubcard points!

MeadowHay · 28/12/2017 18:49

I haven't managed to get out to the shops yet (disabled so need some assistance) and I much prefer to browse sales in-store rather than online. I think relatives are taking me on Sunday to their local retail park so hoping to maybe pick up a few bits there but then again a lot of the best bargains may well be gone by then?

I have bought 2 mat t-shirts from H&M though to put away for later in the pregnancy (only 15 weeks atm), they were both 50% off so like £3 for one and £4 for the other, I actually bought those on Xmas eve though, online. DH works at Sainsbo's and has picked up a few bits for us to give as presents to people later in the year that were really cheap, an origami set that was half-price and a half-price metal thing that you put hot pans on (I can't remember what they're called Blush), as well as a box of Xmas crackers for £1 as we are going to his family's late Xmas gathering on the weekend, and also two packs of Xmas cards for 50p each which we'll put away for next year. Just some little bits and pieces, he said the Sainsbo's sale is pretty mixed.

MeadowHay · 28/12/2017 18:51

Oh I've also bought about 5 books from Verso books for less than £30 as they have 50% off until 1st Jan. Three are for me and DH with some of our Xmas money and two will be birthday gifts for relatives later in the year. Was particularly made up with that.

Paperdolly · 28/12/2017 18:52

Went to buy my married daughter a nice set of 4 silver trimmed dinner plates, side plates and bowls as she has a mish mash of older thicker odd sized, heavy plates. She likes having friends round for buffet type eats and I thought she would like something thinner, lighter, matching and 'posh' looking. (Do I sound like a snob? 😳). Was happy to pay £25 but they had been reduced to £18. I bought 2 sets for her. 👍🏻

tehmina23 · 28/12/2017 18:54

Yes I got joules wellies for £20 off & 40% off a jack wills miniskirt.
